Love this song! When I was 16 I thought it was some classic 70s song that everybody had already heard. I even asked my Mom and she said she never heard it before. lol Definitely in my top 5 Monkees songs.
A revelation on just how good these guys were, and this was recorded while they toured the country during the summer of '67! Love those Nesmith and Dolenz harmonies. Thanks for posting.
This song was on my mind when I was finishing up the yard work today. And now here it is in my RU-vid queue. I'm finishing up my taxes tonight, but when Micky joined the nekkid vocals after 14:00 I just started reflexively singing along with Mike and Micky on a higher third-part harmony line as I was sorting and stacking forms. You state that the "vocal deconstruction isn't the best", but it was good enough -- I never had a chance to sing virtual a cappella with any of the Monkees before, and that was fun.
Great work! Just another example of Peter's expert keyboard work, Micky's fantastic harmony and vocal range and Chip's production and musician skills...a great team!!
@@mtamech535 Not unless you agree that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is a fantastic assemblage of musicians. Just singing makes you a good singer, not a good musician, as everyone but you seems to comprehend. The Oxford Dictionary has two definitions, neither related to just singing. 1. someone who is skilled in playing music, usually as a job 2. someone who plays a musical instrument When they Monkees had strong ratings, they didn't play the instruments, which is why they were treated as a TV act. Over decades they made many millions of dollars, so I'm not sure why it matters to you.
I’ve got a spare pair of near field monitors temporary as my living room speakers, and event though they aren’t designed for proper listening outside of the little ‘triangle’ listening ‘zone’, they are killing it while I’m in the kitchen. That bass is amazing.
No chance that’s Micky in track 1. His bass drum work could not approach that level at that time. That’s fast Eddie Hoe for sure! Great deconstruction though.
Thank you so very much for this. This is one of my favorite songs from PAC&Jltd and the production layering is fascinating. It was always obvious that -for some reason - there were two different drum performances overlain on top of each other; thanks for separating them. And I’ve always wanted to hear a good isolate of Mickey’s backing vocals. Thank you again!
Beautiful! There seems to be another voice there, I think Micky added and extended ah and ooh note at a couple of the end of the summer ‘s. Hard to explain , and yes it’s Micky on first drum track and Chip on bass.
How many tracks did they have to work with in 67? 8, more? Funny when I was first trained for studio and live sound engineering in the 90’s I had 48 and on the oldest board 24. They must’ve been doing tons of bouncing! Wow has ev😢changed today! Still good to know older ways when technology craps out the show must go on.
