Too bad the Bass is so muffled. It's truly a Paul Masterpiece. The vocals make me want to weep for joy!! Especially the back up vocals by George and John. I'm sure Paul is doing some of the back up's on over dubs too. Just an incredible song!! I've been playing and writing all my life and if I could have Ringo on Drums I'd BUST!

I agree - it seems rather under rated in the Beatles catalogue. For one of the great Beatle covers check out Paul Brady's version on the album "Rubber Folk" where the entire album is covered by some very fine folk musicians. Cara Dillon's "Wait" is fantastic too.

The deconstructing of all their songs, forcing us to hear and notice details of their creations we wouldn’t have otherwise noticed, really does make it clear just how hard they worked in the decade of the 60’s. From a distance, it might have all seemed like fun and games and a glamorous lifestyle, but they worked extremely hard. What is the Beatles library….230 songs or something like that? Think of the creativity, planning and work involved in doing one song, much less 230+. And they did it all in only 6-7 years. Truly unbelievable. People wonder why they broke up….maybe they were just tired….of everything.

@Kossman58 3 года назад
@@KinkyBing The big give away is as you point out, it's on 4 track. At that time they mixed with one track panned hard left, one hard right and the other two mainly centre but would often have a degree of panning either left or right. Drums were usually on track 1 panned hard left. If Mccartney played alongside Ringo the hi hat would also be panned hard left and be similar in volume. This clearly isn't the case it's not dead centre but it's slightly panned left but is also a higher volume and clarity to Ringos kit. On the same track is the bass track, tambourine and the organ.

Ringo's creative drumming makes the song, which is otherwise very simple and "plain"...
@mrkite89
@mrkite89 3 года назад
@@davehimlin2374 Don't get me wrong, I love this song! "Simple and plain" (some parts, not the whole song\arrangement) doesn't mean "bad". I was just saying that, IMO, most instruments here are simple and cadenced, while Ringo's drums add a moving feel\groove that is not emphasized by the other parts...It goes more with the vocals (typical Ringo) than the rest of the backing track.
@defaultc00kies63
@defaultc00kies63 3 года назад
I love the song but I do find it a bit dull compared with the rest of the album. I think a major strength of it are the vocals. Gorgeous harmony in the background. Those ooooh la las are catchy as hell. Love George's tone.
@defaultc00kies63
@defaultc00kies63 3 года назад
@@davehimlin2374 it's INSANE how they make everything fall into place. You have to credit the producer for that as well. I'm more of a Phil Spector person (not with the Beatles though lol) but I can't think of anyone better than George Martin to work with their material. And I agree with your opinion, in fact, I think a song like that would be the greatest hit for any other band. But with the Beatles it wasn't even the best in the album. Quite honestly, I think they were the closest thing to a supernatural experience in pop music. They were magical in ways they couldn't explain or understand themselves.
