Yes, normally more design time and sketch go into things but this was the one time, in 18 years that I let the customer 'have the design'... she is a long time friend as well as customer so I don't mind this one, but it is a rare experience so I thought I'd share it for newer artists that might not have had this happen before. I do both intuitive design as well as sketched, but sometimes, even that changes during build. I appreciate your input as an experienced artist too! Actually, that's better said, that's about all I normally do too... if they don't already have a 'flavor' or style I know, then I ask them to check out my gallery, show me what catches their eye... we can normally get a feeling for if they like weave or hammered bare frames, etc from that conversation. Hi Carolyn, this was impromptu live because I got the word from my customer that she wanted a redesign on this piece, so I was about to cut it apart and then decided that I should record it for us. These are all irregular lives that I've been doing because of my relocation (my schedule is not on schedule and won't be again until end of July when I'm fully moved)... so I'm just sharing as much as I can but will give notice to members as I can... today was a heartbreak for the deconstruction of this piece so I just 'did it' on camera. I'm sorry I didn't give notice, I will try to as I go, at least to Members. Your Membership livestreams are always announced in your Community Tab tho. These impromptus have been completely random. Yes, we were planning a few more sketching sessions before the build, but my relationship here in household is breaking up, so that took us off course with this 'idea' to let her design the piece. She is a long-time customer/friend, so she was the single exception I've ever made to give customer the design option, but this type of thing can still happen, so I thought it might help new artists to know, it can happen. Thanks again!

Great question, Jayda! Those things need to be established ahead of time... your 'rules' that I speak about... if you give them one additional wrap or redesign, then you need to honor it. If your beginning 'rule' is.. no redesign... then yes, you could remove the wire and send her back her stones (you should have already been paid for materials and half the labor - those are nonrefundable things unless you choose to refund some of the labor but most don't, that I know of... you just also don't collect on the outstanding labor either tho). This is a long-standing customer as well as dear friend now... I made this an example for my students, members, and viewers but really, if I said I didn't want to or couldn't rewrap it, she would totally understand. She offered to pay more for the redesign also, so this is another mark of a great customer who you want to keep... I didn't even need to discuss additional money for more wire, she offered it). I'd never return the stones this point because I love this Opal and I want to make this piece and I want my customer to have her design too. My household breaking up is what took me out of convention with this one but it made for a good experience to share with everyone... my guess is that most artists will experience something like this during their career.
