Decorating a graduation using cricut without ruining the cap - No HTV Cardstock graduation cap tutorial

So cute! I just made my grad cap. Instead of using the exacto method, I actually ended up slicing a 0.5in circle out of the center of my square shape in design space before I cut the square, then added a couple small slits around the circle so I could push it down over the button snugly.

Also, for those who are not allowed to have caps decorated for the ceremony but want to decorate for pictures etc., black adhesive Velcro dots in the 4 corners of the cap are well-disguised and do the trick instead of hot gluing onto the cap.

Super cute! I made a Gilmore girls cap for my bachelors graduation with in omnia paratus using flowers and stickers (pre-cricut). And I made one last month for my masters graduation. This time I made the circle for the button slightly larger than the actual size of the button so that I could just press it on and put some Velcro to hold it. I made two designs this way so I can interchange them for pictures. I absolutely love projects like this. 😁💙

I'm curious why you didn't cut the button out with the cricut when it cut the card stock

I wanted to be sure it was sitting just right on the cap and I wanted the paper to easily go under the button

Can you use htv if you’re applying it directly to the cap without using card stock?

Yes but be careful. Some caps have plastic under the fabric and it can melt

Can't you decorate the card stock before placing it on the cap

You could if you wanted to. I chose not to in case when I placed the cardstock under the button it got messed up I wouldn’t have to start over. You can do whatever way you want and what works best for you
