This children is the definition of playing through pain. The perseverance, the determination. d`Arnaud is on the ground grimacing in pain, he`s having a hard time breathing after taking a 52 MPH laser to the ribs, batting helmet dislodged 20 feet away from his body and shards from his broken bat littering home plate. Yet the grit of this apex competitor... He waives off the training staff, pulls himself off the ground and takes first base. For all you children watching and wondering what it takes to be a pro athlete. This is it!

Reminded me of that All-Star game years ago when John Kruk of the Phillies faced Randy Johnson of the Mariners during one at-bat. Johnson uncorked a pitch that went towards Kruk's head and Kruk hit the deck so fast to avoid it. Kruk got up, had a big smile on his face and made like his heart was racing several miles per hour. Meanwhile, the players and coaches on both the American and National Leagues were laughing out loud in their respective dugouts, even Kruk's own manager broke into a smile. His at-bat ended with a swinging strikeout, which had Kruk spinning like a ballerina, then taking a bow as he removed his batting helmet. 😄

And of course the '97 All-Star game classic, when Johnson threw over Larry Walker's head, and Walker turned his batting helmet around and switched places to bat right-handed. Even Johnson cracked a grin at that.

You know, sometimes we just need to take a second and remember it's a game. The essence of a fan's life is not going to change, win or lose, but these are people are playing a game for a living, and the fact they both could find humor in the moment is a golden one! This is just not brain surgery, and we should be able to laugh as well as cheer. I love it, and have great respect for everybody involved.

Lucky it was am upper arm hit, anywhere higher could have done some serious, irreparable damage. Prayers for a speedy recovery 👏🏻

You gotta feel bad for Dee Gordon... poor guy. He's out there saying, "Oh, my god..." before the first pitch. He's a good sport for even taking the mound. And d'Arnaud... that was hilarious. Hope everyone shook hands after this was over...
