I love Toyota FJ’s. They are amazing. I had an 2007 FJ That I took in some amazingly deep water and mud. I drove it 3 hours with water up to 2” above the drive window bottom seal with a blown out right rear tire. Had no idea the tire was blown out until we got back on dry ground. Also pulled an 2005 Dodge 2500 4x4 buried to the frame in the same mud hole. With my spare on. Just can’t beat the FJ! My opinion!

The upside to plastic is that its easy to clean. Downside, if it's scratched up, it doesn't look good
@igeekone
@igeekone 3 года назад
That can be fixed, not entirely but can look better. Heat from a propane torch or heat gun can restore most of the original look. Then a UV protective coating, like 303, can be applied. It will look almost like new again.

Toyota engines (and Honda at that) are known to last an incredibly long time with basic maintenance using top shelf fluids and filters. As a shade tree mechanic, I've worked on at least 50 Toyotas of varying models and have never done major engine repairs even on 400k mile vehicles. At that point, you'll be doing oil seals and gaskets. Other than that, you can run most Toyotas until they rust away (also not common).

Back in my youth, I had a Mazda B2000 that I inherited from my Dad. By the time we got rid of it, it had over 800,000mi. This was figured out as the truck's odometer only went to 99,999 then would roll over. We had the truck the better part of about 20yrs. We replaced the top end at least 3x that I can recall and at least 5-6 clutch swaps. It was a great truck and my Dad drove it all over the country when we would do roadtrips.

If you have a heat gun, you can use it on the kick panels and trunk liners. Does a great job of blending in nicks and scratches. Used to do this in the bodyshop. Just be careful not to overheat the panel. Also restores the shine. Won't work if you have big gouges though!

Had a 1990 Corolla I drove from 1990 - 2000. In those 10 years I put over 800,000 miles on it. I drove it all over the country looking for rock climbing spots. The ONLY reason I didn't hit a million is because it got stolen. Outside of regular maintenance, I only replaced the rotors, alternator, thermostat and distributor. That was it. The most reliable car I have ever owned and the most trouble free. I currently have a 4th gen 4runner with 300,000 plus miles and still going strong. Plus it has m22 female connectors so the MTM PF22 foam cannon (which you can order that on obsessed garage as well) connects right to it and puts out great foam. 2012 Ford Edge with 150,000 miles and never any problems with it. Ford isn’t known for this anymore but when they’re made in Canada it makes a difference!

I had a 1993 Nissan 240sx with 289k original miles, original engine and 5spd manual transmission. The previous owner bought it from his neighbor (original owner) who put the first 270k on her. To my knowledge, the head had never been separated from the block, and it had only had one clutch replacement. Truly an insane car. I then drove it just over 1,000 miles from southern Tennessee to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Fantastic little car.
