If it’s of any interest, consider studying and diving into Tori Amos. That woman is empowering. One thing about Kate that you didn’t really mention is her vocal range. As a first soprano myself who wanted to sing pop rather than classical, she was a massive influence on me. Most 80s female vocalists were belting in the alto range, but Kate was singing unapologetically very high, swooping across her entire range, growling and screaming one minute then switching to a clear pure tone the next. Singing along to her albums thousands of times made me the singer that I am. This might also be why I like her earlier albums more than you do (although I love them all). Also the first time I listened to Hounds Of Love I was 15 and alone in the house… Under Ice and Waking the Witch came on and my heart started pounding with actual visceral terror… I’ve never been frightened by music like that since… And then I sang along to it a thousand times

Never Forever is the KB album I listen to the most. It’s just so much darn fun (except when it’s achingly not, as in Army Dreamers and Breathing). The variety is huge... I mean, ‘Violin’ followed by ‘Infant Kiss’! Overall, a huge leap in sonic inventiveness and variety, songwriting skills (every song is really good), finding-her-voice-ness (Bowie and other obvious influences are gone), etc. Whilst I get why the ‘transitional album’ descriptor is used when discussing Never Forever, my heart sinks a little when it’s leant on heavily. The Mother of music if you ask my 29-year-old self opinion. Her sound can be heard by the girls running the music industry today. I get chills remembering listening to her whole discography for the first time, confused as to how something I thought I heard and thought of the music today was groundbreaking, has already been done and perfected DECADES AGO! Iconoclast!

I love love LOVE the second side of Aerial - 'A Sky of Honey'. It's sublime. The way it tracks the course of a day with Sunset and Nocturn being standouts. Just, WOW. Listening to it with eyes closed and headphones on took me to another world that I'd not visited since 'The Ninth Wave' side of 'Hounds of Love'. It deserves far more recognition and praise imo..

I just discovered her work earlier this year, and I am OBSESSED. Hounds of Love is a 10/10 masterpiece in its concept, its production, and its songwriting. I'm trying to listen to her other ones as well, but I just keep going back to Hounds of Love. And it's basic, but I'd say "Running Up That Hill" is my fav song from it right now; along with "The Big Sky" and "Cloudbusting." I'm so glad I have this new catalogue of music to dive into and discover more from; there's an ABUNDANCE of wealth and detail in her work. I'm so glad you did this Deep Discog Dive; I was so excited to see it in my feed!!

Pull Out The Pin is possibly Kate Bush's most underrated song- incredibly evocative and raw. Love that whole album. Another great obscure Kate Bush song is Humming (rumored to have been written about David Bowie), off of a collection of B-sides and demos called The Other Sides- worth checking out, along with the rest of the stuff on that collection of songs.

Gated reverb also needs to be credited to producer Hugh Padgham, who worked with Phil Collins. It’s said he discovered the “snare sound of the 80’s” prior to “in the air tonight” while working with XTC on “Making Plans for Nigel”, and OH BOY, do they deserve a DDD. Amazing video as always :)

Been a fan of Kate Bush since 1980, when she released Babooshka, as I was just 10 years old. And she's still my favorite artist because her albums are so deep and special. I've got a lot of favorite songs: Cloudbusting, Moments of Pleasure, The Man with the Child in his eyes, A Coral Room, Hello Earth, Breathing, Night of The Swallow, Suspended in Gaffa, Army Dreamers, Nocturn, Misty are among my favorite ones.

Mrs. Bartolozzi is a song of her’s that is criminally underrated. I think most people find it clunky because of the “washing machine” lyric, but I think it perfectly captures the mundanity she’s singing about and it makes it that much more powerful when it’s juxtaposed with the passionate memories of her dead husband in the lyrics. “I watch them going round and round, my blouse wrapping itself around your trousers” … the song’s about a lot more than laundry, honey! Also, the line that says “out of the corner of my eye, I think I see you standing outside but it’s just your shirt hanging on the washing line waving it’s arm as the wind blows by and it looks so alive nice and white just like it’s climbed right out of my washing machine” evokes such imagery and coupled with her vocal performance…I always stop breathing during that part.

Kate Bush definitely changed my life forever. I remember I found out about her 'cause I started to read Wuthering Heigths and then wanted to look for reviews on RU-vid, but I was really not expecting to be listening to this high-pitched voice and looking at this eery and theatrical choreography, however, I fell in love with it instantly. Then I dived into The Kicked Inside, and it felt as if a new world was being discovered, and I don't think words are enough to describe how much I love this woman.

Hey Mic/Nick. I love your work on this series. Even when talking about an artist I know nothing about, you make everything super engaging. May I make a humble request/suggestion that you consider covering Rush in this series someday, or at least add them to future polls? The "computer generated voice" in the new version of deeper understanding is actually Kates son, Bertie, but with Fx overlay. In an Interview Kate actually mentioned how sad she was, having to distort his beautiful singing with those effects to get a sound that suited her vision. Sidenote, I listened to the dreaming first and loved it immediately. I had some trouble listening to the red shoes at first, but I love it nowadays. Great video!
