In this video, I play the Taimanov Sicilian against 13-year-old IM Christopher Yoo (2849) in the third round of the May Chess Mayhem tournament hosted by GM Ben Finegold. Ben streamed commentary of this tournament on his Twitch channel ( / gmbenjaminfinegold ) and you'll see some of his comments sprinkled into this video. The tournament featured 7 rounds of 10-minute chess with over $3000 in prize money thanks to generous sponsors. Stay tuned (and subscribe) for round 4!

I don't think I will ever understand why no one ever gets the timestamps right. Like you LITERALLY just have to look at the time in the video and post that exact same time in the comment. Is it really that hard? How hard would it be for you to type 12:00 instead of 12:02? I'm sorry, I just don't get it. Is this a trend or something? It makes 0 sense. Yes, I know, I'm triggered, but I have every right to be...
@ernestohrnell7369
@ernestohrnell7369 4 года назад
Max Khovansky yeah, I get you. Now that you say that, it’s really weird :D I think it’s because the whole “complicated!” situation registered in my brain at 12:02 when it ended instead of 12:00 where it actually started, so I typed the 12:02 since it’s more emotionally charged for me. Yep, needed to type the beginning since people would tap on the wrong timestamp and just skip the thing I talked about. Thank you! I’m fixing it in the original post. Have a great day!

This video is a great answer to "Why doesn't [insert IM's name] become a GM?" Because you have to dedicate days to learning a single game theory, you have to learn hundreds of games, and you have to consistently recall those games under pressure over the board. Plus travel and expenses, finding sponsors (meeting sponsor obligations), and more that I can't even fathom. And after all that you can use your GM title to sell lessons, make RU-vid videos, and get paid to lecture. Which every IM I know of already does successfully. This is a great video showing the complexities of high-level chess. 👍👍

Crazy that they went through that whole line if Christopher had never played it before and just found all those moves himself
@howard5992
@howard5992 4 года назад
Well it was pretty straightforward through move 10 or 11, when Eric offered a knight for a bishop and then advanced a pawn while leaving his second knight under attack and a pawn hanging. So it's a sort of gambit move. It feels like he should then be on the defensive with white attacking but the white king is in a generally poor position. On Eric's notes it's clear that there is no one single line...it branches out. But he had the preparation advantage and knew he could wage an attack. The prep also gave him a time advantage as he was able to move quickly at many points early on. Just my opinion as a novice...
