From my experience - this is why your coasters turn out different - the pink one you heated the white too much and it dropped to the bottom. The blue one you like, your resin was cured more than the rest before you started to pour.

Love everything you do. Just a small hint. You can scratch your molds by placing items in them. For instance you placed your bottle of "muse" in the mold while you were mixing the muse into your resin., and also placed the cap of the muse bottle into one of the other molds. These scratches will show up on your cured coasters. Thanks for your detailed instructions and your beautiful creations.

The difference is the time your resin sat. It gives a different effect at different curing stages. Great technique. I learned something from you.

Amazing! Here's a tip to pop the bubbles without heat. Get a small spray bottle & fill it with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Spraying it over the resin will pop the bubbles and you will not risk moving your resin.

Something I would suggest to help is that since the bottom of the first layer you make is the side you like most to just pour the background layer on top! It will reduce the risk of there being any disconnection between the two layers and there will be much less wear on the moulds! It’s helped me with my resin works. Regardless these look stunning!!

Thanks so much yes the initial reason for doing it this way was to avoid the ridges the you get with mold so when I flip the they are both smooth . Lol I now kore work then sanding hahahaha thanks so much for watching 😍🇨🇦

Those are pretty. You can pour the white flowers. Let them cure. Then take them out, pick the top, put it back in the mold top side down, and pour the glitter backs. This will prevent air bubbles and gaps. Happy Creating!! :)

Don’t forget to go slow when you unmold and show finish product;) you need a small creme brûlée torch to lightly get bubbles out, don’t be scared, but makes it glass clear, let your resin sit maybe a minute longer then normal so that white has a chance to 3D effect and not be to hot and melt. The gun you are using is heating the resin but NOT popping bubbles like torches do. Even a long lighters don’t be scared of the fire, I’m up to real torches now lol. Light little pops and don’t stay too long in one place and you’re fine:):)

You don’t want to use any heat at all on silicone molds! To release the bubbles, LIGHTLY spritz with 91% alcohol. I get a small water bottle from Walmart. The kind you put water in to spray and wet your hair. I find it in the beauty section near where they keep the travel size shampoo, toothpaste, etc. I put my alcohol in that and hold the bottle a foot above my molds and spritz. It pops all bubbles. Works perfectly. With heat you can melt the mold and ruin it. Your piece will be permanently stuck in the mold. If you do get it out you’ll rip the silicone. So no heat!

The differences could be alot of different things .. like the additives that you have put into each one or how hot you get each one when your getting rid of the bubbles. Then how much it cools down before you add the other stuff. And the temputer and humidity changes in the area your making them .. it's alot like glazing pottery.. in that you can do the exact same steps and measure amounts accurately but so much of it revolves around the chemistry even more and we just really can't control that part thus things just turn out different no matter how much we try to do the same exact things... None the less I have to say they are soooo beautiful and cam imagine they look even more awesome in person !!

I have also experimented. The differences have to do with your resin temperature, room temp etc. after clear resin, if you let it sit before you put your white on, that will affect how much the white will sink to the bottom of the mold. I did one waiting 10 minutes, another waiting 20 minutes. I use East Coast resin so working time around 30 minutes. I even noticed a difference between my first coaster and my last one, again because of the time it took to do all the pieces. I love your flowers.

I also have an old ETSY store. I was doing hand-painted ceramic dishes and figurines. I actually sold a little bunch, but people would like one item in my store and ask if I could sell them 100 given a 7 day notice. But I put my heart into each thing I made, and if I didnt... they turned out awful. I didn't like doing multiples of 1 item, it wasn't fun and was more like work than art. With one exception, I sold 4 copies of my original mermaid platter with dolphins and shark teeth making a mosaic in colored ceramic. This technique made the plate look like a mosaic when finished.
@AceKaci
@AceKaci 4 года назад
Beautiful! From what I remember from the blue coaster video, there are three things that could be different with the blue ones. 1: You used ghost pigment. White pigments seem to be denser, so they fall. Perhaps adding the ghost pigment made the white resin that much denser and more likely to sink downward instead of outward? 2: As you said, you heated your blue coasters’ resin which may have made it set faster leading to less movement, even if it took the same amount of time for each project. Also heating both the clear and the white resin rather than just one color would have kept movement to a minimum since temperatures would have been more consistent with each other, unlike the pink. Heat rises, so if one was colder than the other, it would create more movement as the hotter resin rises and cooler resin sinks. 3: The white resin was hot and already setting by the time you started piping it, so again, it wouldn’t have as much time to move around and spread out. I think this is the most likely cause for the effect you got with the blue coasters, but you’d need to try changing only one thing per project to narrow down what specifically helped you get the blue coasters’ effect.

not the temperature but it has to do with resin curing time. you should wait to put your piping resin in the clear until it has thicken like 15 -20 minutes or so depending on the brand of resin you are using when the resin has started to cure it will get thick and your piping will not mix into it so much and keep maintain its structure ( its shape

Sometimes different colors have different setting times, so the blue one may have been that you let the cleat set up a little longer?? who knows, I'd let the clear resin sit a bit longer before putting in your flower pattern and then it won't spread as much. Great work! Thanks for sharing, I know its a year later, but I love your results. Also I'd number the mold spots to put the exact same one back into its hole so the hardened ones fit perfectly back into the spot they came out of, this may help eliminate the gaps or air pockets.

it looks like the ones where the white is sort of... wiggled around... those ones look like you either left a fan on nearby them, or there was something jiggling the table they were resting on? or maybe a train or 18-wheeler shook your house? which would totally affect the stability of the designs you draw in the epoxy. If you're trying to create a more finely detailed design you should wait until the clear base starts curing a little bit, so it's not completely liquid that way the white lines you're drawing on top of that layer will not sink into the clear as much, and then to make sure they don't wiggle around a lot, make sure to cover the molds so no wind/breeze etc. affects the surface of the epoxy, and furthermore, try to make sure they are on a steady, level surface that won't be shaken at all. Stability and uninterrupted surface protection are key to design fidelity.

The difference in your coasters probably have something to do with the weather, as in the resin was warmer in the last one and the first one and colder in the others. That is my theory anyway. Love the way you do them. But boy a lot of work. I see others just do the one layer but I do like the way you do them because I am with you I don't like the back of them either. So you cover up the not so nice side. Great idea.

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS WORK!! i love how each one is different- everything in life is not identical and besides it has great character to each one. If you ever saw a snowflake under a microscope there are none alike. The beauty of art is that everyone has a different style to share. Creativity makes art fun to enjoy in every way. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and look forward to continue watching you create beautiful things. Is it possible the changing weather has anything to do with the process change? humidity really messes with resin and paint, I am really good at not paying attention to the weather and i have to go on my balcony to do my projects- I live in an apt. If you can - get a humidifier in your workspace where you lay your resin to dry, it will make a huge difference!

HI, love them all, they don't have to be the same each time, I like the variety. For the blue one, I think its a case of letting the white resin cure longer before you pipe out so it doesn't disperse as much into the clear resin, its all about timing which is easier said than done! They’re all sooo beautiful!!! This is the first time I’ve gotten to watch one of your videos :) I definitely think the idea (at the end) of selling them in mixed sets of 4, with one from each different grouping is a fanatic idea!! So, I also heard you mention a few times that you couldn’t figure out why the outcomes all have a very different vibe between each set & even subtle differences within the same batches. Truly, the only way one (might) be able to actually get close to an exact replication with these kinds of processes would be through robotic production. The simple facts of being humans who are, when creating artwork - especially that involves fluidity, the reasons for those varied effects are innumerable. When an artist is working, we are standing in an *exact* spot (whichever one it happens to be) & on this specific planet, at that exact moment in time. So the temperature, even within a few degrees, actually effects every single spot & item in the room and each of the fluid component being used - even the air within the space is a unique factor each time we begin our work. Those are the base factors that generate the endless possible variables at any given point in time & space. So if there are so many uncontrollable variables in our experiment, which ones would we be able to potentially effect enough change on to get at least a very similar outcome in our design? If I was very invested in recreating my artwork, which occasionally I am so I’m often regretting my lack of records, I would & should video record every single time I’m working on any project! Even if i don’t plan on posting it, that’s the best way to get all of the potential info needed, time/date/location already stamped for you too! There are certainly a number of ways (and reasons) to keep thorough records as an artist. Videos are easily the best way to cover the bulk of those reasons! Also being very intentional, as you were here, in noting in the video all product specs, methodologies, discussing changes (what worked/what didn’t) and how adjustments were made. As these are all aspects of the work you want to have records on. Whether it’s for recreating something or marking/sales etc., they’re just good to have on hand for all projects & video takes the least amount of work to document all of those details. For the information needed to learn the answers to this quandary, I would take the video of the piece(s) you’re hoping to recreate + one that I’m the group which feels the most different from it. Then I would watch/listen to each one closely, alternately & repeatedly to see what small differences I can pluck-out of them. Record that data!!!! Then go through & test changing one variable at a time, in order to isolate which one(s) are effecting the outcome of the artworks & maybe even learn why it’s happening and/or how to adjust it if possible! Sorry for the long post, but I’ve thought a lot about it & you seemed to be genuinely quite curious about the topic :) Nice to meet you!

Also, never stack your coasters on top of others as they will scratch. I learned that a long time ago...I had no idea they would. Resin has to fully cured for 3 days...and to be honest..I always let mine cure 1 week before stacking them. Please don't take my suggestions the wrong way....or just delete the comment if you want, But when your coasters look this pretty...they would be beautiful with a good resin. 😁

Maybe if you let your white sit for about 15 or 20 minutes before you put it in the clear resin, it would do what you want like the blue one. Personally I love how the purple one came out! I may have to try this!!

I would say on the blue one to let your clear resin set for awhile to thicken up, then put your white in and it shouldn’t spread out as much, beautiful work

To be able to add the flower layer, and twist, without the bottom layer squishing up the sides, perhaps you could attach a small suction cup before inserting them. Holding the suction cup might enable you to twist them without having to press hard enough to cause it to squish.

To get that look that you are wanting. The one you pointed out towards the end I think you should heat your epoxy or let it sit till it's closer to setting up before you use it. That's why it kept its shape when you made them because it was already hot and starting to set so it didn't thin and spread out like it does when you heat it in the mold because you have already heated it and it has already done so. Hope this helps. 😊
