This has gotta be my favorite Deep Purple track. Ritchies intro riff was just way ahead of its time.. that vibrato control is unreal. Don't forget about Jon Lord! Dang man, glad you had a chance to witness this.
50 years ago dancing in my room, my dad yelling “turn that @#+* down!”. Makes me so happy to see you enjoy it today! Wore out 2 copies of this album 😁🥰
I was a huge Deep Purple nut when I was a teen. The "Made in Japan" live version of "Lazy" is spectacular! R.I.P. Jon Lord! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uflsjU95lRM.html
One of my favorite Deep Purple tunes. Every instrument is doing its part, and doing so in a way that makes this song a masterpiece. Lord, Blackmore and Paice are just rocking out.
I have always loved how this song just takes its time building up. There is no way modern music would allow a song to just go on like that. Really enjoying your diversity of reactions, you're taking me back a long way. Keep it up.
You know good music when you hear it. I mean, I heard everything there is to hear, and Deep Purple is absolute class. They have expression, drive, style, mystery and everything else.
Space Truckin is a great follow up song to Lazy on this album. And of course Smoke On The Water is probably their most known song which has a great intro before any lyrics, also on the same album.
I prefer the Made in Japan version of Smoke, it's a bit quicker. Probably prefer it as it's the first version I heard, there's that little departure thing Blackmore did early on, love it.
Deep Purple’s Machine Head is one of the best Hard Rock album of all time. A collection of hits (Smoke On The Water, Highway Star, Lazy, Never Before, etc). And Lazy’s intro is just awesome (hail to Jon Lord, The keyboard wizard).
Ian Paice’s drumming , Glover on bass driving this beast of a song. When I first heard this song you never could guess where it was going to go, it’s got everything. RIP Jon Lord. Ritchie Blackmore, you rock 👍
@stalrunner Yeah Deep Purple needs to get a steady spot in our rotation in general, so many tracks by them to hit, and then the live versions are apparently as good if not x10 better from what you guys are sayin’
I've came across three top ten guitarists of all time videos that have no sight nor sound of Ritchie Blackmore. Each time, like a mug, I would watch right to the end, expecting him there, but no! I don't ever want to trash any guitarist out there, but Blackmore should at least be able to be make anyone's top ten.
I’m 63 years old. Deep Purple was my favorite band and I haven’t heard this song in at least 35 years. Still awestruck by the musicianship! Still my favorite!
Ron Nelson obviously if you’re a fan you’ll know this song. He means that it’s not one of the hits that a non fan would hear and say they know like smoke on The water or Highway Star.
@@jeremydraper733 Thank you 👍🏼 I was thinking it must be 'snarky Wednesday' or something 😉 Id also say, Deep Purple themselves are reasonably obscure, unless your a fan "of a certain age" 😊 Of course, they aren't Wishbone Ash either, now that's obscure.
This was the first album I ever bought. It was so good that I have worn out 3 copies. I also took a pilgrimage to Montreux. I had shivers all over my body the day I was there. Freddie was a bonus. Also some fine looking scenery there too, if you know what I mean.
YES! Cheers to you man thanks for the shout out, I watch your videos ALL the time for songs I’ve heard, Try ‘Child in Time’ or ‘Highway Star’ by DP next for some straight SAUCE! Love your work! 🔥🙌🏻🤟🏻 - Andy 😎
My favorite song from Machine Head, which I started listening to excessively during the 4th grade or so. RIP Jon Lord, one of the best rock keyboardists ever.
Thank you, man. My favorite band. And the whole of "Machinehead" is a great album. PLEASE do the opening track, "Highway Star". You won 't be disappointed, I promise my friend.
You are helping me appreciate music I took for granted. A lot of these older pieces were just back ground music at parties and the neighborhood. Listening with you is like hearing them for the first time.
This was one of my father's favorite songs, though not a musician himself, he had many friends who were, of those that played guitar, he would grin ear-to-ear watching their reactions (sound familiar, Jamal ? LOLl), when he'd put on this song, if they'd never it before. My father was one of the last of the great patrons. If he liked your band, he'd show up to see you play with friends & ready to start the party. He was always great fun to be with, always in the center of the action. I miss him very much since he died in 2014. Today is his 75th birthday, and unlike the last few yrs, his absence is strongly felt in a way that I haven't felt since the first yr he was gone. I happened to stop by your channel & see what your reacting to today, surprise! It's as if my sweet Daddy sent me a message telling me everything is alright. Thank you, Jamal
@@kickahaw There's also a great video on You Tube of Government Mule with Roger Glover on bass doing "Maybe I'm a Leo" If you haven't seen it, you should check it out.
50 years ago this album and song was blasting in Athens Greece when I was serving my country....50 years ago....damn, seems like yesterday....good reactio.
I'm still pushing for Strange Kind of Woman from MiJ. The live arrangement with the call and response between Ritchie and Ian is absolutely brilliant. Add Ian's earth shattering screams with Blackmore's superior proficiency on solos throughout and you have one of the most original live songs ever recorded. It's time for some REACTION!
This was one of those "changed my life" albums. My sister is 4 years older than me and when she bought this album when it was released and I heard songs like this it was my introduction to "heavier" music.
The entire Machine Head album by Deep Purple KILLS! Every track is monumental. Seriously, pick any one, you’ll love it. It’s probably my favorite Deep Purple album.
You need to do "Woman from Tokyo!" Best cymbal and hi-hat work in rock history. The '99 Mix is the longest studio version, and it sounds particularly great.
The best hard rock/blues/rock/classical keyboard player that ever lived. Also the only one at the time that ran his hammond through Marshall amps PURE GENIUS
The whole album "Machine Head" that this song came from is amazing.Just picк a song: "Highway Star" , "Space Truckin" ,"Smoke on the Water" , "Pictures of home" , "Never Before" and "Maybe I'm a Leo"
I saw Deep Purple during the Perfect Stranger tour. Man! My grandfather turned me on to Deep Purple when I was an early teen with the live Made in Japan album. Changed my life forever. Lazy, Highway Star, and Child in Time are my favorite tracks on that album. It just kicks some serious ass.
I love watching these. Deep Purple was my first rock show. It was 1973 and I was 11. Blew my little mind. I went with a buddy. He was 12 and we were properly chaperoned.
Jamal...you are the mot refreshing thing I have found on You Tube. You don’t trivialize or dismiss any song. You treat them with fresh eyes and an open mind. Thank You.
Thank you for giving this song a listen. I requested and hoped you would discover them. Jon Lord's sound and playing on the Hammond organ may have been imitated by some over the years but nobody comes close to the original. He was major influence in my musical development. He passed away in 2012 but his music and sound are forever
Very talented and under rated band. I always viewed them as being just as good as zepplin. Ian Gillam is one of the best rock singers of all time and Richie Blackmore is a great guitar player and then there was the late great Lord on the keyboards. Great song and as many other post here the live version is really great.
Jamel, now that Lost in Vegas has gone mostly Patreon, I’m down to you and, recently, Alex & Andy as my two can’t-miss reaction channels. Way to give them a shoutout. Proving once again you’re a stand-up “community” guy, not just me, me, me. Sharing the love.
I'll never forget 1st hearing this. I was 13 & into all the 60s/early 70s radio stuff at the time. This sounds like a funeral! Then its a horror movie! One of the coolest intro's in history! It sounded like nothing on the radio. Then Made In Japan came out............................61 years old and still a full on Deep Purple freak.
Machine Head was the first album I ever bought. Smoke on the Water had the opening rift every non guitar player could fake. My favorite was Space Truckin'
This was my favorite band when i was a teen with Led Zeppelin was #2 favorite. Saw Deep Purple in Aug 1972 at the Civic Arena, incredible concert!!!! Then again in 1974, Mach 3, Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland! Again incredible. Went to the concert with a girl i really liked who became my wife 3 years later ! ;-) We're in our 60's and still love Deep Purple and Led!!
Another 1 of my very favorites from the "old days"! This has to be Ritchie's all-time smoothest solo, in a career filled with great guitar work. It's blues, but really bordering on jazz. Timeless & incredible! Jamel, you mean you don't react to anything unless others are reacting? I understand about not wanting to get blocks/strikes, but then on the other hand, how do you find any new music that no one's yet reacting to?
1971, my Dad had just retired from the Air Force and we were getting ready to make the long drive from Plattsburgh AFB in Upstate NY to his family home in South Carolina. On the day before we left my parents took us to the PX and gave me and my two sisters some money to buy ourselves snacks, games and whatever else we wanted for the long trip. I was six and this was the first time I'd been given my own money to buy things for myself. Along with everything else I bought my first two 8-track cassette tapes, Deep Purple's Machine Head and the soundtrack to Jesus Christ Superstar. Lazy is a stand out tune from what was an awesome album. Somebody better have checked on the dude playing the electric piano/Hammond organ 'cause one of them is with child after all that!
I played this song for a friend that was into that grungy pig squealing trash metal. He thought the band wouldn't so any screaming and had never heard of Deep Purple. His jaw hit the floor at the shredding guitar solos and long drawn out Laaaazzzyyy!!! I'm so glad my dad got me hooked on classic rock. It's the cats ass. Screamo doesn't hold a candle to bands like Deep Purple.
I listened to this album at least 1000 times back in the '70's, when I was in high school, and this was probably my favorite song on the album. Still has the same impact on me... Loved your reaction!
Was in Okinawa in the 80’s there was a band that if it wasn’t for the Japanese accent you would have sworn it was Deep Purple! Fond memories! PS: saw Deep Purple live!
