Sorry to be a clever dick but it wasn't written by Doc Watson, it was originally played by the Delmore Brothers but they called it Big River Blues, it was Doc who renamed it Deep River Blues
I have no problems with corrections! But I think I put that in the description already 😜 One of my Patrons pointed this out when I posted the tutorial a few months ago, but I forgot to redo the intro part! I’ll pin this comment so everyone can see the correct info.
@@TimVanRoy Sorry Tim didn't read your note, my mistake! Great tutorial btw love that little single line tag at the very end, been trying to get that for ages.
Paul Fleming: Tim Van Roy has studied Tommy Emmanuel's nuances in exceptional detail and unpacked them beautifully in terms of the motor skills required. Tommy Emmanuel has been my favorite acoustic guitarist for years - during which I realized that it is primarily his ideas that make him great. But Technique serves the idea, and that's where the work starts. Tim van Roy, where have you been ? Today, you have become my favorite guitar teacher - a REAL teacher who, without apology or gloss, details the disciplines required to play at that level. Thank you.
You also analyze, and to me that's an indispensable part of teaching. You've studied not only the technique but the idea: When not sounding an open melody string, he goes back to reinforce the rythmic pulse by sounding the 2 upbeat strings. He does the same in the Beatle's Day Tripper, creating the illusion that the rythm upbeat note is played throughout. Among other players - Rory Hoffman in jazz and Edson lopes in classical - I do have favorites, but Tommy Emmanuel is one of the most fulfilled people I've seen (c.f My Life as a One Man Band). Thanks, Tim, for the response to my comment. Nothing improves my hearing more than praise! Paul G.R. Fleming, @@TimVanRoy
We have finally found someone who does proper Tommy Emmanuel lessons!!! His style is so hard to play, thank you for breaking it down in a great lesson!
Thank you so much for this Tutorial!! Now I can learn it in my tempo. Just having the tabs does not work for me. I like your explanations! So worthful. 😊
It's my pleasure! I do have to add that I made this tutorial while my baby boy was very sick and I was getting very little sleep. At times I'm not very coherent and I have trouble getting my sentences together. I recently checked the subtitles (for translation purposes) and at times I found it very hard to follow. A new version will be made in the future!
This is a very, very good tutorial. But for me I don't need all the talking. Just slow down the picking notes and when you play it I can plainly see and hear it. So long as the camera work is good, as it is here. Instead of a 40 minute lesson you have a streamlined 25 minute version. I would think most intermediate players are like me. Talk where something is difficult or novel. BTW I saw Doc and Merle play this live twice. Thx.
Fantastic lesson Tim thanks so much! Small aside: I find the bend on 3rd fret of B string much easier when bending the string downwards instead of up :)
Great suggestion! Bending down on the B-string feels a bit awkard for me, probably because of my electric guitar background. But if it works for you, then stick with it!
@@TimVanRoy Welke gitaar zou jij me aanraden?
@@TimVanRoy You can hold me on promise! BTW. Great playing and understanding guitar, respect! Say, i have seen that you have a notes and tab of Tommys songs! Is that buyable?
Great Blue to share to everyone But it's only easy for people who knows English. Next time please help summit the Tab. Anyway it's awesome video. Thank you so much!!
Hi Thanh (I hope that is your first name)! Believe me, I would absolutely love to add the tabs! That was the way I used to do the lessons, but due to copyright problems I was forced to take these videos down. But if RU-vid ever rolls out multiple audio/language tracks I will probably do some translations!
Hola ...I speak Litle english...any....
Hi Robin, I'm looking into this Patreon does not offer that option, but I'm discussing possibilities for my new website. Being able to purchase access to single tutorials would really be a benefit I would like to offer!
@@TimVanRoy Would be a SMART move with money getting TIGHTER by the minute. I know I'd buy '' Singles ''. I can't afford to tie up in the per Month club. Old on SSI
@@treecounting Great to hear! I'm working on a solution right now, but once this goes through it'll still take a while before I get everything online. But the plans are there, you should be able to buy separate lessons in the future (and if all goes well, stream them to Roku/Apple TV/Chromecast as well)!
The license for the MusicNotes tab/notation has just been cleared. I'll probably be able to post part 2 by Friday (July 2nd). There won't be tabs on screen any more however 😬
