We've still got our fair share of portages but I over packed on water and paid the price. The results were some ugly lines and frustrating moments as we made our way through the rock gardens and me trying to keep up. Still good times...a bad day on the river is better than any good day at work!

Awesome job! I love the sounds of the Cicada, frogs, and bugs. It's a true orchestra of summer, thanks for sharing.

@@SideTrailAdventures couldn't agree more! I actually like listening to "thunderstorm sounds" or "summer night sounds" to help me fall asleep. The louder the better. Never could stand the quiet when trying to sleep. But laid up in a hammock, listening to the crickets sing on a riverbank and the crackle and warmth from a fire on a cool, summer night sounds just about perfect to me. And no worries or rush big dog, we all have day to days to maintain.

I live In highfalls and I’m from Coleridge. I kayak from Coleridge to highfalls every year for the two day tradition and I’ve covered every inch of water from Coleridge to carbonton bridge and it was so cool seeing you go past so many of my favorite spots. If I would have known you could have camped at out camp ground right at highfalls dam I know you saw it. I remember the gas station telling me you guys stopped by I live right there. Awesome footage. I know your pain paddling the dead water above the dam! Safe paddling!

Camping was certainly an adventure on this trip. The timing wasn't quite right for High Falls since we wanted to get some more miles in for the day but it sure was a great stop nonetheless. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching!

Looks like a rather bony trip :-) But that can be fun too...

Juuuuuust a little bony😎. I could've handled a few more inches of water for sure but it was still a blast. Thanks for watching!

Just found your channel today researching the mst and at, planning on *attempting* to hike them someday, (with double knee replacements! But thats a story for another day.) I live close to Randleman, so the worthwhile and franklinville areas are near and dear to my heart, and somewhere I've taken my boys since they were little to swim and camp. We started kayaking several years ago as well, and stupidly took our standard kayaks through the cedar falls section. We survived unscathed, but never again! Gonna stick to worthville and nice, calm lakes til I'm more experienced! Looking forward to checking out more of your videos!

Right on! Cedar Falls can be a force to be reckoned with...especially at high water! The great thing about the MST (or any trail) is that it'll always be there when you're ready. The MST is my favorite trail because its home, its unassuming, and has some absolute hidden gems that a lot of people overlook when they're looking for trails to hike. Glad you found the channel and thanks for watching!

Most things worth doing aren't easy (like the ATC🤤). The trip was an absolute blast but definitely had some type 2 fun in there. Thanks for watching!

@@SideTrailAdventures just wondering why the water stash and carry when you have all the water around you could ever need. Just curious.
@SideTrailAdventures
@SideTrailAdventures 2 года назад
@@jo2outdoors unfortunately this river water isn't safe to drink. We're downstream of some big agriculture and human population so more chemicals in the water than your standard Sawyer Squeeze could handle.

Great video, cool trip, not a very ‘deep river’, well done!

Someone told us the river got its name from its deep (and steep) banks which I can definitely attest to. Certainly made for an interesting time looking for campsites. Thanks for watching!

I would imagine thats a one and done run. Wonder how many of those dams are still in use. Would be a great run if they were gone
@SideTrailAdventures

100% one and done run! It was certainly memorable but not something I’d do twice 😅. On the trip we often talked about how much different (and beautiful) the river would be without the dams. I know there are plans in the works to remove at least one in the next year. Hopefully more in our lifetime. Thanks for watching!!

Dang, how far did y’all carry those kayaks to get them back in the water? Other than that part, it looked like a lot of fun, and absolutely beautiful! I would love to do something like that. My husband and I keep talking about it. :-)

That first portage was probably a few hundred yards to get around the dam itself and the rock garden below it. It certainly felt longer but having 4 sets of hands certainly made the job easier. I guess the extra work is what makes it an adventure right? Thanks for watching!
