Sometimes I decide not to shoot the closest fish that I can, waiting for the bigger one to get in range... If that doesn't happen - it's ok, she's smart enough to continue its journey. Then I get to admire and study these beautiful illusive fish species, learn more about their life and behavioral patterns and just simply enjoy the incredible landscapes and marine life of the deep blue abyss.

The two greatest responsibilities of being a spearo are:
1. Dive safe
2. Spearfish sustainably
Freediving is the mother of spearfishing.
Without possessing the basic freediving knowledge and skills any underwater activity on a single breath of air can easily lead to tragic consequences. Therefore it's highly recommended to complete a dedicated freediving course with a qualified instructor.
Once you learn the essentials and master the basic feediving skills you will be able to enjoy this amazing sport in a safe and enjoyable way by simply respecting your own body and the rules and safety protocols of freediving.
As for spearfishing itself - if you are just starting out then you really want to get some proper mentoring from an experienced spearfisher in order to kick-start and minimize the risks involved. Also, you want to be 18 years of age or older in order to handle a speargun. Make sure to check this with your local laws and regulations before indulging in spearfishing activities.
