One thing you can always count on during the Fall season is volatile weather! After a storm front passed through, causing the trees to drop their colourful leaves, I decided to spend some time in a different part of the woods.
There is also lots of history to be found here, remnants of past lifetimes still littered amongst the young trees, which is neat to come across from time to time.
I don't often photograph in this part of the woods, I usually find it too difficult to work through the chaos of the dense, deep forest. However, on this day I was inspired by the soft shafts of light that found their way through the thickets of trees!
If you want a closer look at my favourite images from the video, feel free to head on over to my Instagram page @jesshobbsphoto!
I really hope you all enjoy this video, and, as always, thanks for watching!

Really enjoy your channel Jess. I recently resurrected my old 35mm equipment. In this tumultuous year, I am finding the film to be a more pleasing and calming experience compared to shooting pixels. I can relate to the farming experience, old barns, and silos. Keep up your nice work. It is very refreshing. Have a great New Year now.👍👍

Beautiful photos. Not sure if it is the moisture in the air but I find greens always pop more after a bit of rain.
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs 3 года назад
It had been raining off and on for a couple of days before I went back in, so the greens were definitely very vibrant! It's kind of funny to be photographing so much green in the fall, but there was lots of it around! Thanks for watching, Daniel, I'm happy you enjoyed it!

Super pics ,loving the local history and how things change , I have the identical tripod .

The history in that part of the woods is pretty fascinating, and on another part of the farm is the old slate mine that's been defunct for decades. A lot of the families that still live on the surrounding farms all have stories of their ancestors, so it's fun to get them talking! How do you like the tripod? I bought it to replace the Manfrotto I had, so it was meant mostly for my Mamiya RB67... I don't mind it so much with smaller cameras, but it's not as good with the RB. Thanks for watching, Andy!

@@JessHobbs .. Hi Jess , get on alright with the tripod , however I only use 35mm /DSLR camera's and my heaviest lens is my sigma bigma 50-500mm , it's seems ok so far , carry on your super videos ... Cheers Andy

It is a challenge, but one I love to do! Sometimes I have a hard time trying to reign in the chaos, but lately I've been in the woods so much that it's been getting easier. Thanks for watching!

Enjoyed your video (indeed all the ones that I have watched so far). Can you do another one using the PressPan if you still have that camera. Keep up the good work. I'm old enough to be a terrible cynic so I enjoy your enthusiasm and positive personality. Great job!!!!

I definitely want to explore the area more and see if I can find other relics! Part of the farm even sits on the defunct slate mine, so there's still so much to discover! Thanks for watching, Alex!

There's definitely lots of history around here. Part of the farm even sits on the old slate mine that's been defunct for decades, and the old schoolhouse is just a bit down the road. It's fun to hear the stories from the families who still live on the neighbouring farms! Thanks for watching, John!

As always, great content. Love the way you challenged yourself with square format and photographing a part of the woods you're not used to.
@JessHobbs

To be fair, it was also the smallest medium format camera I had (minus the pinhole or Holga!), and I wanted to be able to move easily through the woods, which isn't always possible with the RB67! I really enjoyed challenging myself for this video, and now I have a new section to continue to explore! Thanks for watching!

You should check out Erik Normarks channel of his solitary journeys into northern Sweden. He is the gold standard of nature filming. This video had a minimalist feel that reminded me of some of his work.

I'm so used to my Yashicamat that looks like it was kicked down the side of a mountain that when I see clean copies like yours it takes me but surprise every time.

Oh no, the poor camera! Even I was pretty impressed with its condition when I bought it, it is definitely in great shape! My fiance is always picking on me for not being as careful with my cameras as I should be, so I'm trying to do better! Thanks for watching!

As someone who is fascinated by the remains of old railway infrastructure and alignment (or track bed if you prefer), are there sufficient remains in the area to justify a photo-story or has it been reclaimed by nature to such an extent that nothing of photographic interest remains?
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs 3 года назад
I wish, but most of the remains have been taken over by nature! I am going to be spending more time back there, it was a great place to shoot, so I'll keep an eye out for any relics, it would be cool to do some kind of story! Thanks for watching, Baxter! If you like railroads, you'll like next weekend's episode! 😉
