Creating images with the Mamiya RB67 in the woods during the spring months is one of my favourite things to do. I find the process of shooting on medium format film to be so peaceful, and I love searching for subjects at a time filled with hope as the woods renews itself for another year.
I don't often use the Mamiya RB67 hand-held, but here it really allowed me to get up close and personal with so many small plants popping up along the forest floor. Of course, I couldn't resist getting some shots of fiddleheads, and finding those sheds was a wonderful bonus!
If you're reading this description, I'll be honest with you, this past year kinda kicked my butt! So, while it might seem odd to those in the Northern Hemisphere to be seeing a video of the spring season just as winter is starting here, well... better late than never!
For a closer look at some of my favourite images from today's video, you can head on over to my Instagram page @jesshobbsphoto.
As always, thank you so much for supporting my channel and watching my videos!

How great to have you back on youtube. Always enjoy your videos. I especially like it when you use my favorite camera. Glad work still left you some time to do a video.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! Yeah, I do need to find more time to get out with my cameras, even when I'm busy in the summer. Honestly, this video was pretty much the last time I even used a camera, which is so rare for me! But a better work-life balance is necessary. Thanks for watching! ❤️

I felt kinda bad taking almost a day to get to watching this video, and then I thought "wait, this whole video is months late!" no matter when I get to it, your videos will improve the mood of my day. I really like the shot of the suspended maple seeds!
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs 9 месяцев назад
That is the sweetest compliment, thank you! Yeah, this video is definitely a tad late, but that's okay! And don't ever feel bad for waiting to watch a video, ha ha! The shot of the suspended maple seeds is my absolute favourite, I really love how it came out! Thanks for watching! ❤️

Nice images! Do you need the bellows adjustment for exposure times on these closeups? Now with winter it's black and white fil for me! Cheers.
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs 9 месяцев назад
Oh yeah, I definitely adjust my exposure times with the bellows extended out so far! Sometimes when it's only a half stop difference, I won't adjust depending on the look I'm going for, but typically I follow the chart on the side of the camera. Yeah, I'm headed towards shooting more b&w myself, winter is perfect for that! Thanks for watching! ❤️

Lovely shots. That 400H Pro is just fantastic film. I have some 120 in the fridge. What was the meter you were using in the beginning or was that a scope or something?
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs 9 месяцев назад
Thank you, Christina! I never used to like Pro400h, but after using it in the woods, it is quickly becoming a favourite! Luckily I have some 120 rolls stashed away that I'll save for next spring. The meter was the Reveni Labs Spot Meter. It's tiny, which I love, and really accurate. Thanks for watching! ❤️

If I'm in a big rush to put a video out, I'll have the lab scan for me, but most of the time I scan all my film myself.

I have a question, why did you not preload your camera with film beforehand? I ask because I see it in so many film photography videos on here.
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs 9 месяцев назад
For me, it's a storytelling choice. I prefer to load it during the filming instead of before, especially since I walk around with many different types of film and never really know which one I want until I'm out there. Thanks for watching!

what bag are you using to carry the rb67?

It's the Mindshft Gear Backlight 18L in Woodland Green. They also make the same bag in black, and in 26L and 36L sizes. It's the best bag for the RB I've ever had!
