The problem lies with the "hips_JNT" bone. If you select it in the Characterization panel its X-Rotation is set to 0, when the correct rotation for a DeepMotion rig should actually be 90. A quick fix for me was: 1) following the first part of your tutorial in CC4 by mapping the bones correctly. 2) When this is done, select the "hips_JNT" bone and change its rotation-x to 90. Because there doesn't appear to be a way to de-parent bones from others to rotate, the entire rig will rotate. 3) You have to then select the other bones and correct their rotations from 180 back to 90. This is quicker than it sounds, by mainly selecting and rotating the shoulders and thighs etc. When done the rig will look wrong (actually just like the 'bad result' in your video) but this is actually what you want. 4) You can save a new "Characterization" profile file (.3dxProfile) with this setup and apply to future Deep Motion imports and it should work correctly without using 3DXchange.
