Wow! Very cool. I'm thinking something like that would be an awesome homemade gift, especially for Christmas. Something very affordable that possesses great value in terms of its use and practicality.
Did the antlers smell when you were drilling into them???? I would imagine they smelled like something burning, but was just curious. Another Great Video Sir!!! Always good information found on your videos. Thanks!!!!
Cool video! I would love to know more about the process of removing the antler from the skull, and also how you clean the antler before starting a project like this. We have a dead/skeletonized buck on our property right now and I would love to use the antlers. Do you have to cut them away from the skull or can you just sort of knock them off? And do you just sand them down a bit? Thanks for this information and entertainment :)
You use a saw to cut the antlers off unless it’s a shed. You can also saw the skull if you want them together like a traditional mount. You can wash them, but don’t sand them. That would ruin their appearance. If you are collecting them off a skeleton you found, it’s best to do it in cold weather. If the animal is decaying they can sometimes smell. You can soak them in baking soda to cure the smell, but it can be a long process. Hope this answers your questions.
I Polish my Antlers with a buffing wheel. They shine up real well. I make Pens pipes, handles for BBQ tools, and cast some shed pedicals in clear epoxy for whiskey bottle stoppers.
