A demonstration on the effectiveness of low concentration DEET products on preventing bites from the mosquito species that transmits dengue, chikungunya and Zika.

I'll never understand why people like you do this secretary shit. Most people don't read comments until after they watch. At that point, your secretary work is pointless.
There are two people I truly respect on the planet. A guy willing to take mosquito bites for science and the time stamp guy. And we have both in one video 🥹
You just convinced me to always wear DEET if I’m doing an outdoor activity for an extended period of time. Especially since I live in Florida next to a canal.
To be perfectly honest if he does this regularly (which I’m pretty sure he does) his body most likely doesn’t even react anymore. Mosquito bite welts are an allergic reaction to mosquito saliva so his body is probably immune to it now.
I use DEET gel too but the introduction said it’s last 10 hours which I doubt it, so thank you for the experiment and sacrifice you made, this is very helpful
Amazing demonstration and very appreciative of you showing that 15% and the number of hours of effectiveness I will definitely be using this information.
this man deserves million & millions of views... not those nonsense content out there.... thanks to those people who sacrifice their lives for the betterment of others 👍👍
I Remember using deet many years ago but I was staying on some islands in the Pacific. I remember using it and thinking wow! It works! Then after regular application for 3 or more weeks the mosquitos became resistant and I began to get a few bites towards the end of my trip
@@Krack2805 Eventually, yeah. But the idea was you wouldn't have to use it for that long in areas where mosquitos are. So you'll be good on a trip for 2.5 weeks or so lol
you know how they say wasp release something to let other wasps know they're attacking or some shit.' how do we know the mosquitos really r telling their homies to come get this dude i wasnt trying to find out
@@wavematrix I mean mosquitos feed not attack so if one got attack while eating it's not like their gonna be like "homie feed on him he tried to end me"
Once i was just breathing through my nose and i sucked a mosquito in. it was horrific. Tears came out and my nose couldn't stop itching for like 15 min
Using your own body as an experiment to work out science really mind blowing,I literally had goose bumps watching this with all the mosquitoes on his hands WOW...
The lighting, temperature, and other variables could have changed during the hour since the initial test which could plausibly effect the results (10% fewer bites, for example). It's good science to always test the control.
You're not kidding, the mosquitoes come out about 5pm daily and if your ass isn't inside they you'll be the prime target of thousands of blood-sucking insects
Bruspo YT Probably up in the tundra but where I'm at there isn't a fear of death lol just annoyance. I counted yesterday and I had 34 bites from mowing the lawn. Shoulda had bug dope. Good thing is the mosquitos up here don't carry any diseases.
Ben Ovard I thought of a pool of hornets like the pool of syringes but mosquitoes will do (but if there are 1 million then how do you fit in the box because the rules are that only one person can die at once or atleast he has do do a lot of them with a key in a box but not in a room or else everyone would die and the movie would be extremely short because the cops wouldnt go there and cant get caught that way ) but its a good idea
@@JPOGame not for me ticks are easy to avoid and you can keep them and test them a mosquito 🦟 you can’t catch really plus there’s a lot more of them and they fly
If he applies tea tree oil, it will only last for a few minutes and within a few hours there will be no bumps. I've used it, tea tree oil with witch hazel. Works great.
Make a video where you bring in a variety of lemon grasses, basil, and citronellas and also citronella candles and test various methods of oil extraction from the leaves for your hands, and soaking your hands in the warm wax (Not Hot Wax!), and just straight up crushing the leaves and tossing them into the mosquito cage while showing us the results compared to DEET after being processed.
When I visited Guatemala, we slept in sleeping bags on the ground. I'd spray myself head-to-toe with DEET to keep the bugs off, and sleep only half-covered to allow the wind to cool me off. If I missed spraying my face, I wouldn't be able to sleep with them crawling on me, if I forgot to spray even my feet I would have bites on my ankles.
Poor guys his test hand is so swollen from doing this before. Bloody hell man, hope you're getting the salary you deserve. That swarm on your control hand was nightmare fuel.
Couple of years back I was doing field work in the Siberian wetlands. I have never seen so many mosquito's before. I had to spray on DEET every 15 minutes or so, because I would sweat it off so fast. After you put on DEET, there still was a swarm of mosquito's around me, but at least they weren't on my skin. It was like a 10cm anti-mosquito force field. It's pretty effective stuff.
My wife is from Siberia and we were travelling around years ago and visited a place very similar to the one that you describe. It was like standing inside this box that this guy has his hand in. I can imagine that even wearing DEET that they were bouncing off you. That was the one part of the trip that I decided to just wait in the car. Haha
my only reason for not buying this product is because i need to let the mosquito get as close as possible to me so i can then burn it with my flamethrower :)
Is this 100% deet being used or a certain percent? Most of the anti mosquitos products I see contain 30-50% deet and don't seem to work very well. Edit: I saw you mentioned 15% deet.
In2anity no, they literally do not... lol a sting when something uses said sharp object to inject something into you, not to draw blood. Holy fuck people
