The thing that made FFNY so good was that they could have taken all the references to Def Jam and rap in general out of the game completely and it still would have been a solid game. It attracted people who don't even like rap. Icon, however, is all about the music, and that's the biggest problem with it. As far as it have pretty graphics, who cares about the graphic if the game sucks. No matter how much you polish a turd it'll still be a turd.
I remember laughing historically playing Dej Jam FFNY, smashing someone over the head with a baseball bat and watching them fall down like a sack of potatoes. This game didn't have any of that
The thing I loved the most about FFNY was that they actually put passion in to creating this game. (Just like most of the games pre Xbox360/PS3 where it wasn't all about money.) The people who created FFNY knew Hip-Hop and the culture and knew fighting games. They made sure the game was well rounded enough that if you knew nothing about Hip-Hop/Rap you would still enjoy the game and vice versa. But Icon had no passion in it at all. All I felt from it was people trying to bank off of a popular franchise by making some generic ass story/game based on what they saw was mainstream in hip-hop at the time. Like, they didn't know anything about the culture nor had respect for it. And the Fighting engine was just doo doo grits. Slow, generic, mundane and just plain fucking stupid. It was like Kool-Aid with out the sugar.
I love the arenas, the music, the character customization and the whole building and running a label, but the gameplay is bad compared to fight for NY. They should make a 2016 def jam game with all the features in all the other def jam games
When the developer went on record and said he didn’t think hip hop and wrestling games mixed well, ignoring the success of the previous games, the developer should’ve been canned.
I don't like def jam Ps3 because the fight is not a real effect caused explosions finger movements. I like def jem fight for ny PS2, becaus real fight.

I played FFNY and loved it, I even ordered a copy for my PS2 today but I wasn't too happy with Icon. I bought this and returned it the same day cause it wasnt like FFNY at all and it just sucked imho. Piece of advice, buy Fight for New York instead of this!!
Why not make another FFNY and DJI again????? If they can make a good fighting game like mortal kombat come back, then they should do the same for games like bully, def jam icon, and fight for new York.
Played the first two and they were great, why did they ruin this one so much, I was so disappointed with this game and the bass attacks where you stomp the floor and they go on the floor, this could of been such a good game, but they ruined it! NY was so good
Agreed! The first two games were amazing and fun to play no matter when! Unfortunately for us EA Chicago made Icon instead of AKI Corporation who made the previous two and boy was I disappointed as well. Why change what was already great?
EA ruined three franchises when they went to the ps3 and xbox 360 def jam, nba street and nfl street and now we dont have any more of those games damn you EA
Played all def jam games and have to say this has to be the worst of them all but I still enjoyed it. Obviously fight for ny will always take the lead but I did enjoy the soundtrack to icon a lot which kept me playin for quite a while.
This is no def jam without the taunts and blaze moves grapples better interactions i remember beatin up someone with the fans ....pleaseeeee give us back our def jam corporate money out here destroyin games
I had alot of fun with this game, i feel it would be better without the def jam label and instead have rappers from multiple labels, more maps and a few other things could be improved. Its my least favourite def jam game but i still liked it and would be intrested on what a sequel would be like
I say they a new one since def jam ain't all that no more, make a hip vs rap and let Tupac and Biggie(male ) be the BIG BOSSES and let their difficulty be extremely hard, and for the career mode have a young artist go touring in each major city and he/she have altercation with former or current artist that was popping or still popping, tell me that's not hot ?

yes it is, it sucks, especially if you've played FFNY, wich was one of the best fighting games ever cuz it combined arcade fighting with simulation fighting, this is complete bullshit, if I wanna play with sound effects, I can go to a studio, if I wanna play a fighting game, I play FFNY
Keep graphics take out enviorment moves add blazine moves again change gameplay to old one and your good oh and better story this one fucking sucks bring f mob back
