they waited for a specially designed drum kit to be made for him. I got to see them at the Donington Monsters of Rock Festival on 1986. absolutely amazing show
My favorite song off the awesome Hysteria album!! Thanks for your reaction!! The site “SongFacts” has the great details on the writing and producing of this song according to the band themselves.
Eric Byrd Nah, I disagree. Thriller was alot more than just 2 great songs. It also had Billie Jean, Wanna be Starting Something, The Girl is Mine & my favorite....Human Nature.
the man is a legend and well respected across the music world. To lose your arm in a car accident and not be able to do te thing you love would stop most people no no not Rick Allen. This guy went ahead and retaught himself how to play drums with the use of both feet and a specialized drum set.
im 34 yrs old and i wish i had a time machine to place me in a Queen concert, def leppard concert, van halen concert, led zepplin concert, and some many others and even in the 90s in a metallica concert (when he could still sing), in a nirvana concert, in a alice in chains concert, ..... jealous of my mom going to so many concerts in the 70s and 80s
@@smalltownfamadventuresmore5109 I didn’t get to go to any concerts in the 70s but I did in the 80s, and it was definitely better than now. But I grew up listening to music from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, and I’ll tell you it was an amazing time. Music today, most anyway, is garbage. There just aren’t many talented artists now. I saw Eric Clapton in concert, 38 Special, The Cult, Quiet Riot, Ronnie Millsap, Buddy Guy etc. Great times.
@@terryconnelly484 Not all bands are capable of making an album like this.. you have to have some jazzy funked up chops in your spirit.. 90 % of the 80s hair bands did not have it... after Rick lost his arm they could have given up,but they dug in and supported their band mate...exploring music directions they never dreamed of on the first couple records. Its not selling out to use your talents to their maximum potential...
I saw Def Leppard at Donington Monsters of Rock in 1986. When Joe Elliott introduced Rick Allen, the whole crowd just gave a huge, loud roaring cheer! It's a moment I will never forget. I remember reading an interview with the band when this single came out. They said they thought touring was hard work, but the people in the circus showed them what real hard work was.
Mutt Lange was the producer that helped Def Leppard take there music to the next level after their first two albums. I actually have a preference for those two albums, as they had a more raw sound to them. Mutt Lange was also married to Shania Twain and produced some of best albums.
He also has writing or co-writing credits on the whole album of Pyromania and Hysteria. He produced Highway to Hell and Back in Black for AC/DC and Foreigner 4 for Foreigner.
I agree. On Through the Night and High & Dry were/are Def Leppard for me. Their raw, crunchy sound is what I loved about those albums especially High & Dry. amazing piece of work.
I love the track Animal. What a tune. The chorus is one of my favorites. You can see a good look at the pedals of Rick's drum kit at 5:02. Those extra pedals were used to replace his left arm.
The drummer is Rick Allen. He is was in the top 7 drummers in the world, even with one arm. We bow to Rick! The was in late May 1987 just outside of Amsterdam in Holland. The band spent three days with a travelling Romanian circus.
DEF LEPPARD 🤘🤘🤘 This is another one of my favorite Def Leppard songs.. That shirt is AWESOME The drummers name is Rick Allen or some Def Leppard fans call him; The Thunder God 🤘🤘🤘
The drummer, Rick is one of my heros! To not let his disability stop him from doing something he loves is amazing & lets me know my dreams are worthy of persuing even with a disability myself. 🤘🦾👩🏻🦽🥁❤️
Def Leppards first record deal was signed in Rick Allen's parents kitchen as he wasn't old enough to sign for himself. He left school at 15 when he joined def leppard
@@kirstinejohnson-knox633 was he only 15? Huh, I was told 17 but then again that was years ago. I never bothered to "google" him other than look up his birthdate once. My husband said he has been a fan of DL ever since he found out (at the age of 17) that Rick was only 2 yrs older than him at the time. So I looked it up to confirm his age. Wow, how many parents these days would allow their kid to dropout of high school & go join a rock band at such a young age? LOL!
I am soooooo happy right now!!! Thank you for all the happy memories!!! Love it!!! Thank you for the love and respect to drummer Rick Allen! He is AMAZING. Def Leppard Forever!!!!
@@paulmaude2650 After Hysteria it was just pop rock? whatever you want to call it🤔 and it was good for the masses, but not so much for those of us that love the initial raw sound🤘 of Def Leppard. I feel the same way about Metallica after the Black album, it was never the same again☹️ With these two bands and what they put out after these two specific albums, I can nitpick a song here and there and I'm fine with it. But I've never been able to buy a full album from either of these bands after those two specific albums, from Def Leppard and Metallica, but yes to everything before those albums👊🤘
I've been wanting Jamal to do some Aussie tunes for awhile. This is a goodie. You're The Voice by John Farnham Beds Are Burning by Midnight Oil Send Me An Angel by Real Life Never Tear Us Apart by INXS Would be great starters as well.
It was a blast being a teen in the 80’s when all this greatness was IT! Music, fashion, movies! I miss those days- Cruising around blasting all this great music! We need Whitesnake and Bon Jovi next!!! ❤️💛💟☮️🤘🏼✌️
AWESOME! I graduated in 1989, this brings me back to the 80's seeing you enjoy this song brought me back to those happy times as a teenager. Also Lange rhymes with BANG. He was married to Shania Twain. I need to get me a Def Leppard Tshirt! Thanks for your video.
They are survival! Drummer losing an arm, drug overdose killing Steve Clark, one of The Terror Twins, and his replacement Vivian Campbell fighting cancer. This is what it means to be human, Jamel. Always keep going. Thank you man.
Honestly, this was always probably my favourite Def Leppard song but you can't go wrong with anything off those 2 mega albums of the 80s Pyromania and Hysteria
That's the magic of this song... the first time you hear it, it sounds like you've known it forever, and every time after that is as magical as the first time you heard it.
Ahhhh, the 80’s. What a decade!!! The decade of excess, great hair, great clothes, and GREAT HAIR METAL. I’ve seen them in concert several times, and they always give a great show. They recently, before all this madness with the Coronavirus, had a 3 month stint in Vegas, and they had so much fun, they’re gonna do it again. Love them. And yes, the 80’s were a really fun time!!
The drummer Rick Allen aka Thunder God is a true example of not letting a disabling feature stop you from what you love to do. They’re truly a family as Joe Elliott (lead singer) said they’re all his brothers. Their producer Mutt Lange helped them propel to another level.
RIP, to Steve Clark , lead guitar----------------What moved me most about these guys is HOW they stuck with Rick after his terrible accident. they never gave up on him ! that's real class. ------------------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
Unfortunately, even back then, that's not true of every album. There have been many that were two or three songs engineered to be hit singles and a bunch of filler. But there were always a few that filled an album with great music, and Def Leppard were definitely among them.
It's hard to over-state the cultural significance of this concert = live album = full length feature film. Directed by freaking MARTIN SCORSESE!!! JAMAL - read about "The Band" and "The Last Waltz" so you know what you're getting into before you roll. YES to "Up on Cripple Creek"! AND YES to "Mannish Boy"! The Bob Dylan set gets split up, but "Forever Young/Baby Let Me Follow You Down" is great, then the encore when they bring out ALL THE STARS for "I Shall Be Released." Pure Magic.
One of my favorite songs from my FAVORITE 80's band! I was SOOOOOO blessed to have my 20's begin with the 80's! My young adult years fell perfectly into the greatest decade of music! (Of course, I loved the music from the 70's as well, but the 80's have yet to be topped IMHO.)
I'm guessing like most new people to 80's rock, you first heard it on Guitar Hero. This Hysteria album is amazing from the first song to the last. This shows what a talented band and a great producer can create. These songs have great guitar layering and of course our introduction to electronic drums big sound. Great reaction, thank you!
I was a junior in high school in 1983. Def Leppard played in Jacksonville the night of my Junior Prom. The dance was a ghost town. EVERYONE went to the concert.
Man I was brought up on 60's ,70's ,80's, alittle 90's and you bring me back to them times my boy was born 80 and loves my music. I've turned him on to you. Keep the peace
Pour Some Sugar On Me was done in Balls of Fury (Hilarious Movie!) and even star Christopher Walken sang along. Want to see a great comedic movie? Check out Balls of Fury (especially close to my heart because I live in Daytona Beach, where hero Ronnie Daytona gets his name! LOL!!
Loved Balls Of Fury! "What was up with those courtesans of pleasure?" "Ah, yes, mine really knew how to handle a man -" "What the -?" "Master had a great time last night. Let's just leave it at that."
The history of the mullet, they rocked the puff mullet, the skullet, and the heavy mullet puff mullet rick savage bassist the skullet phill Collins Joe classic hard rock mullet plus I loves this band
Rick Allen, the smiling drummer, has a reason to smile. After Pyromania he had a car wreck which severed his left arm. The band stated that if he couldn't play then they would just quit. So immediately after getting out of the hospital he started putting together a drum set that he could use his feet in place of his left arm.
Great times!!! Used to go dancing every Friday night to these songs!!! Dang.. loving my band!!!! Thank you so much for enjoying them too!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖old lady from Oregon 👵🏻👵🏻 Google Mutt ... great producer of big singers...
There's a biopic made for television called "Hysteria" you should watch. Lead singer Joe Elliot gives side notes and explains certain scenes during breaks throughout the movie. An interesting movie to watch. watch
Born in the early seventies, came of age in the 80's and never was a huge Def Leppard fan. But saw them in concert in 1996 and HOLY COW what a PHENOMENAL show. Nothing fancy, just straight up Mullet Metal done right.
I really hope that we can get back to world were we can go see bands like this, LIVE. Def Leppard and Styx are among the greats that are STILL touring and will no doubt come back around, because they love their fans.
The song is from the Hysteria Album, put out in the 1980's by Def Leppard. The drummer lost his arm in a car accident before this album came out, and the band waited for and helped him learn to play all the songs with one arm and extra foot pedals. THAT is how friends support and love each other.
Well that and “Shout” “Mad World” “Pale Shelter” “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” “Woman in Chains” “Break it Down Again” “Advice For The Young At Heart” etc etc etc. Great band.
@@KingFahtah Don't forget "Change". First video of theirs that I saw...when MTV was in its infancy. The extended version is the one to look for and has a very cool outro!
Def Leppard has so many great songs, so many anthem song along ones. Every time I see them live my throat is so sore after from singing my lungs out. One of my favourites it Let's Get Rocked. Also check out Rocket, Foolin', Rock of Ages, Bringin' On The Heartache, Two Steps Behind, Women, Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad, Miss You in A Heartbeat, . . . I could go on.
One of the things I love about Def Leppard's sound is the power-through beat. Down an arm, Rick didn't give up on what he loved and became a pioneer of the hybrid/electric set and brought basics back into a drumming world of show-offs. Never discount a simple, resounding, powerful beat. Easy to listen to, sticks in the brain, and makes the body move.
Thanks jamel for reviewing this song it is a great one. And def Leppard is one of my favorite junior high bands. They are a tremendously talented group of musicians and vocalist. Your reaction is great man.
@@kennethgrainger1112 27 albums in the 70's, 10 in the 80's, 7 in the 90's, 4 in the 00's, and 3 in the 10's, with nothing in the last 5 years. I'll stick with "was"
THANK YOU for checking out Def Leppard! One of my all time favorite bands!!! They have such a unique sound. If you want more then please check out Women, Rocket, Armageddon (Hysteria Album), Heaven Is, Stand up (Kick Love Into Motion), Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad and When Love and Hate Collide!
I saw DL in 1984 (Yes I'm old) and saw them a couple years ago in Tampa. These guys 🎸 rock! They have more energy and sound just as good today as they did back then!
Whenever I think of that song it reminds me of a Champions on Ice show that I went to. I think the whole cast skated to it. It's funny how songs have specific moments in time.
Def Leppard has always been a legendary band!!! Always loved their music. Loves your gods too my man, still waiting to see your reaction to Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist
I don't know if you were planning on doing "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" but that's the rare song where the original, in this case by Def Leppard, and the cover, by Mariah Carey, are equally as good.
I had the pleasure of seeing them in 1984 when they opened for Billy Squier (“The Stroke”). Mutt Lange is a legendary producer. As odd as it may sound, when I first heard Shania Twain, there was something similar that struck me. Her production actually reminded me of Def Leppard (which made her way more palatable to me). She’d been married to Mutt at the time, and he co-wrote and produced her.
My kids & I saw them at an opening of a Walmart close to Fort Bragg , NC YEARS ago. We are from NC but you guys wouldn’t believe where ppl drove from to see them, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, etc. These ppl weren’t soldiers. These ppl drove hours to see them. They even had a meet & greet afterwards. Everything was free & the guys were so nice and thought it was so cool that my kids loved them so much.
Used to 'try' and fall asleep with this album playing on my walkman every night as a kid when it came out. Still do the same sometimes these days. Ageless! Love these reactions, keep them coming!
