we have different ideas of success... and no offense... but she really can't be much of "your girl" if you don't even know that at her core... a poet is what she IS... from my perspective... here... at this time... she was major... you obviously didn't listen to the words of this poem... "they start rhyming for the money cause they think it's easy... but insincerity has no longevity... ya feel me"... no offense...
"Now Im a rapper they all say, Till they pockets aint getting stuffed, Or their lives get a little rough, Man that emcee shit was just a bluff, Cuz when the going got tough, It didn't take much, For them emcees to get hushed." Best lines of the whole thing. "It's the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen." -Muhammad Ali
Amanda Diva really intrigued me with her poetry. That was some inspirational work that she put down. Amanda, if you're reading this, keep doing ya thing--you have ALL of my respect for what you do, because you DEFINITELY do it well. Thank you.
Two things can be true at the same time. Amanda can be absolutely brilliant and still be a toxic narcissist... Her comments following her conversation with Shannon Sharpe showed her true colors... What's sad is that her narcissism prevents her from seeing her own faults and flaws.
you are right, there are some other hot underground poet/MC's for you to check out: Flame, Lecrae, Theokratic Mindstate, Trip Lee, Stephen The Levite, Shai Linne, Sho Baraka, Tedashii, Everyday Process...the list goes on
You got to live for the funk and die for funk. If you don't put your pen down please. I felt that on a spiritual level. "You got to live for the funk and die for the funk", and I feel that, that's seriously for anything you do in life as your craft.
she played 'dion' on there....regardless....she was fine then and now. she spoke at this coffee house here in detroit with jessica care moore, she killed it with this poem.
Man, this video reminds me of how much I miss Def Poetry. I can't get it while on my college's cable package, and my mom dropped HBO since I'm hardly home anymore. :(
Ha, I remember from the show My brother and Me. She is mad cute. Her rhyme is mad true. At first there's like 40 emcees, than circumstances happen and we fid out who was the real MC
Some people are built to be certain things in life. Not everybody can be an MC. THAT is the reality that YOU don't see, Twiggs. Amanda Diva ended this poem telling those who don't have the truest essence of an MC to put their pens down and do something else...whatever they were meant to do. In short, just because someone WANTS to rap, doesn't mean they are supposed to. If they have to choose between something and music, that means they are not supposed to be doing music in the first place.
I loved this so true. I love how you dont name anyone but situations. The truth is people drop there so called dream acuz they see it wont be profitable. A dream worth achieving is not realized unless you struggle to get there. You can work and still work on your dream. I work a full time job raise three kids and take online courses to accomplish my dream. I wont let finances, other peoples words or anything else stop me. I have a dream to aceive to prove to my kids you can dream and acheive.
That's what I tell people all the time! Hip Hop started off was party music. Then public enemy started to make more social conscious rap. Then NWA introduced gangsta rap but at the same time social conscious in the sense that they let people know what was happening in their community. Now it's back to party hip hop. It's just full circle.
i just want to thank you all for the support! we're tryin to really bring change and goodness back to the music and we can't do it without you!!! don't forget "Life Experience" the ep hits ITUNES on Dec. 18th!!!
yes that's exactly what im saying. There are no shots at soulja boy or Ma$e lol. i wrote this in 2001. One was in elementary school and the other was still on BadBoy!
this girl was smart, beautiful and i bloody hope single haha ok before everyone starts with the hate mail - i like how she says all these fake MC's just do music but dont mean it from the heart its a joke that only means making money. Its like my commitment to basketball that is my life i couldnt do anything else but i hate those who play it but dont take it seriously its just something they do to pass the day and next day play golf or something so i can relate to what shes saying its true
yo, she's not saying hip hop has to be serious. She's telling all the "hip hoppers" to "put their pens down" if they aren't feeling what theiy are doing. It doesn't have to be socially conscious... it just can't be solely for the money, it can't be a quickie, it's got to be love; some "through thick and thin shit". She's calling out all those rappers and hip hoppers who front and by doing so rape, pillage and tarnish an artform and then when they going gets tough, they get going...
Yeah me too, I'm a Chritain. But I think she just meant that when they became Christian they thought they had to give up Hip Hop. I wouldn't do that unless God made me.
