Plottoberry I come back and listen to it at least once a year. Helps me come to terms with the feeling of isolation being American and such a bleeding heart liberal... #OneLove
She came to my school last friday and let me tell you she is beautiful inside and out , she is really smart and has wisdom in her soul. she recited "Daughter" and "4:02pm" to us. she truly is inspiring.
KareemNaeem i agree with you 100%.. is funny how people can listen to sheer honesty and still be unaffected.. so deep in their own hatred/ignorance .. they can't think in any other way.
This is one of the most intense women in the world. Everything about her is a level or two above most of the rest of us. Big thanks to Def Poetry from those of us who'd never know about poet like her.
@ShaolinSurfer777 This poem is not anti military... it's anti war. She's saying that she does not buy into any of the ideas that move people to kill each other. Your service is most greatly appreciated... I'm personally sad that war exists at all.
This is one intense individual. She obviously has piercing intelligence and passion and courageous outspokenness. It will never happen but, I've tried to imagine what it would be like to have a cup of coffee with her.
damn, this gave me chills! Haha my World Lit teacher introduced my class to this masterpiece. The only difference is that when Hammad was reciting her poem, I could actually feel the emotion, compared to just reading it... :/
She is up there in front of everyone. Her ways to express her thoughts maybe unislamic, but a lot of ppl appeal to it. There are only two muslims I've seen in Def Jam Poetry so far and she's one. Let's hope in the future, she'll be more faithful--that'll be awesome.
i will not pop, spin, brake for you , i will not hate for you or even hate you ! i will not kill for you especially i will not die for you i will not morn the dead with murder nor suicide, i will not side with you or dance to bombs because everyone is dancing everyone can be wrong ! life is a right, not ca-lateral or casual i will not forget were i come from i will craft my own drum gather my beloved near and our chanting with be dancing, our druming will be humming
i been tryin since the first time i heard first writing since to get her and people like saul williams to the masses ied rather hear this five times till sunday then hear lil wayne
I would think that she is ultimately going to speak on the side of her people, the injustices she has seen. And it my opinion I can completely see what the Israelis are doing - her poem sums up so much. It's very moving.
some times you must fight oppression, transgression and wrong doing.. peace is for those who live in a life without oppression, transgression or anything like that.. and a peaceful life is beautiful.. she's a palestinian.. she out of all people knows that peace is hard to find.. me too
here is a original poem you may love- "sacred desires, perception inspires, our lives go sunshine rays,in the dark as we count the days, sleep deprivation, deep perspiration, inhaling oxygen contaminated, with chemicals we desire technically animated, caffeine & nicotine, morning freshness breathless listerine, loving each other, hating the haters, respecting our mothers, waiting on waters, poetry of hearts conquered, by the one who makes the day stronger" original poem by Mr. Omar Jefferson
Calling on Israel to address its security needs within the boundaries of international law, Expressing its grave concern at the continued deterioration of the situation on the ground in the territory occupied by Israel since 1967, Condemning the killing of Palestinian civilians that took place in the Rafah area,
@clinique8701 I'm pretty sure God will bless her more than anything you have/ will do in your life for what she's doing right here in this video, bringing light to an injustice. Everyone is a sinner, don't tell me you follow everything the sunnah says. So keep your mouth shut for once in a while, and let a good person do a good thing for once without telling them what they're doing wrong.
maaan, is it me, or does this fellow muslim sista allways got something innteligent and uptodate to say.. indeed i wanna see more of her, thanks for posting
This song inspired one of Erykah Badu's songs on her album Amerykah Part 2. Sounded good there in a 4-minute song but sounds even better here in a minute and a half long! Love ya Suheir.
Gravely concerned by the recent demolition of homes committed by Israel, the occupying Power, in the Rafah refugee camp,1. Calls on Israel to respect its obligations under international humanitarian law, and insists, in particular, on its obligation not to undertake demolition of homes contrary to that law; 2. Expresses grave concern regarding the humanitarian situation of Palestinians made homeless in the Rafah area and calls for the provision ofemergency assistance to them;
@clinique8701 I understand now where you're coming from . May Allah guide her to get better at this thing as well and also reward her for the other good things she is doing. There is always room for improvement, and I feel there a lot of room these days for us all.
please, can somebody write the text of the poem, because i dont understand some words (iam not an native speaker) and i want to translate it. thank you very much i would appreciate it. great poem thumps up
What I Will by Suheir Hammad I will not dance to your war drum. I will not lend my soul nor my bones to your war drum. I will not dance to your beating. I know that beat. It is lifeless. I know intimately that skin you are hitting. It was alive once hunted stolen stretched. I will not dance to your drummed up war. I will not pop spin break for you. I will not hate for you or even hate you. I will not kill for you. Especially I will not die for you. I will not mourn the dead with murder nor suicide. I will not side with you nor dance to bombs because everyone else is dancing. Everyone can be wrong. Life is a right not collateral or casual. I will not forget where I come from. I will craft my own drum. Gather my beloved near and our chanting will be dancing. Our humming will be drumming. I will not be played. I will not lend my name nor my rhythm to your beat. I will dance and resist and dance and persist and dance. This heartbeat is louder than death. Your war drum ain’t louder than this breath.
