Caught em a few times, most recently at gilman last year and he always delivers live, like listening to the album, i just have to stand there and admire how good these guys continue to be!
It's been 10-12 years, this is the real shit. crazy how you listen to so many songs over your lifetime, some on repeat... then theres bands like defeater, that you'll not listen to for a decade, but find yourself right back where it all fucken started. That's what the internet should be for.
Next Defeater Album confirmed: The story of Bob the Weatherman. Learn everything about Bob, the blood in his veins, his alcohol addiction and how he slaughtered his family, because the sun wasn't shining.
The way she looked at you, tears streaming down her face You felt the brush of her dress as she walked away And that's all that it took, sat down to buy her a drink An empty or a half full glass, it all goes down the same And that's the way that it's been Years later she took your name Hopeful and now unafraid Your gut sinks each time you see her Another night at the Copper Coin Another night, another night And that's all that it took, sat down to buy her a drink An empty or a half full glass, it all goes down the same And that's the way that it's been Years later she took your name Hopeful and now unafraid Your gut sinks each time you see her Tell me about the old days Another night at the Copper Coin Tell me about the old days Put the sun into the sea 'Cause there ain't nothing like your smile, your legs and those eyes Tell me about the old days 'Cause there ain't nothing like your smile, your legs and those eyes And I will beg and steal and borrow to keep you safe your whole life
man, the guitar is what makes this song for me, the tone is veryyyyy atypical for this kind of music. No distortion at all until a little bit at the end (but even still there isn't much), very unusual and interesting in this case, especially considering the contrast with the harsh, fast, and heavy vocals and drum parts throughout.
perfect pacing, love the breakdown. and goddamn those ending lines. there aint nothing like your smile, your legs and those eyes... and i will beg and steal and borrow to keep you safe your whole life..... all the more bitter considering she dies.....
I remember seeing these guys for the first time when they were on tour with ABR in Dallas. Never listened to them before and didnt know their music at all. But I was blown away by the passion of this band. Cheers dudes.
one of the few bands i would pay to see more than once defeater puts on awesome shows them with touche amore was one of the best shows i have ever been too
Were there're stage was set up at warped in my city. The scene kids was on the other side of this large parking lot listing to their butt lord andy six play. And defeater had a nice crowd. Many people who never heard of them was confused, the front crowd was screaming their lungs out as soon they played red, white, and blue. haha it was such a great time! Defeater killed it.
It's grown drastically since, Literally 80% of my music these days I get from Tumblr. It's really the only website I can think of that's dominated by people who're into this scene.
***** All their albums follow the same storyline, Travels is about the protagonist, Empty Days is about his brother, Letters home their father and Lost Ground is the black guy he meets playing guitar in NYC.
I have a local pub type bar i go to every friday and i refer to it as the copper coin, and i wish more people would realize why and how amazing the reference is.
It's definitely talking about a place exactly like that. Since they've toured England before they may have been there, but intentional or not that place you described is exactly the setting for this record. Post WWII, industrial. I heard somewhere that it's set in New Jersey, but I always assumed it was Massachusetts because that's where they're from and being from Massachusetts myself, I've always pictured scenery like in the port town of Salem, MA.
