@@hwasiaqhan8923 Modern southern Chinese and northern Vietnamese are partially Han and Yue. I absolutely love Chinese history. The complexities of the political powers for generations, and the fact that so much more seems to be recorded than with western cultures.
eh, actually an issue I have found is the west is very good about telling about itself and little else, most of "western history" is the history of england in an American setting but that's our progenitor country so it makes sense, but the west has its own fair share of events' such as the investiture controversy, The rise, and fall of Rome, Greek city-states, the crusades, the 100 years war the renaissance and Reconquista, the french revolution and more. However, this is a gem of a channel because it tells the history of china from a Chinese viewpoint and really gets into it in a way western academia fails to, Many of the chapters of Chinese history have simply never been translated into western langauges which is a major barrier to studying it, along with western academia being either very western-centric in outlook or very anti-colonial in outlook placing politics in the way of truth and coloring it to fit political narrative.
Can u make a video about Liu xiu and Wang Mang. their stories are just too astounding and fascinating. especially the future visions far beyond the era Wang Mang lived in and the unbelivably luck of Liu Xiu in his campaign. these 2 points would make the video a great story
At 4:13, the same reason why the Romans had to invest in Cataphracts and dramatically change their infantry equipment. Starting from 2 century AD, the Roman military started to retire Gladius and Scutum in favour of Spatha( a long sword almost identical to Han dynasty double edge sword). Rounded or oval shield and short Spear made a huge return, new helmet designs also appeared such as Imperial Italic helmet(a helmet of Celtic origins redesign to provide extra protection), Neiderbeiber Helmet, Ridge helmet and Chain mail coif. The most important ones will be widespread adoption of long sleeve shirts and long trousers to provide best protection against weather. By the time of the 3rd century crisis, the Roman army and equipment were so different from the 1st century AD counterpart. After the 3rd century crisis, Diocletion initiated a reform that helped to give rise to European Feudalism. You can see changing of equipment and tactics to fight a totally different enemies can led to society changes.
Great vid CJ! Its a shame this side of the world (Latin America) dont teach even a bit of this history, only a fraction of what was the “Silk Road” but thats it... thanks for this videos!
Greetings from Brazil! Yes, those videos are amazing, specially considering I barely get the opportunity to study history around here other then by myself.
Greetings from Panama... Cool videos and great storytelling... These facts and historical events are never taught anywhere in Latin America... Please keep up the good work Jia You!!!
The downside is that this resulted in the migration period where the earliest turks and mongols leaving central asia and stepping foot on eastern Europe ( fall of the western roman empire).
Hello from Indonesia 👋 Are you also going to talk about Battle of Zhizhi later (Han vs Xiongnu), and they said about story that maybe (still debated until now) Rome soldier ever engage in battle with Han soldier, will be greatfull to know a lot of that facts from your point of view Also do you going to talk about side story like before "General Han Xin" and make "Great General Huo Qubing story" that Emperor Han Wudi build a monument in Huo's grave that day and still can be seen until now in nowadays border outer Mongolia region
COPİED OXFORD "The European Huns, who originated from the Xiongnu Empire, are known to have spoken primarily a Turkic language, more specifically Oghuric Turkic. 12 However, this may be due to the heavy concentration of Turkic peoples in the areas that the Huns inhabited immediately before their major expansions into Europe and Central Asia. there was some speculation that Huo (the new kid of the block) got the cream of the corp, where Wei Qing just got the left-overs. So Wei Qing actually did better than Huo. Li Guang probably got even worse than Wei Qing.
I love 50 episodes historical dramas! Unfortunately, I don't read Chinese characters, so I don't know their titles, and don't understand Mandarin, so I need subtitles, in English!
Ah, look. It's Wei Qing. I found out about him from a light novel in which a reincarnated Wei Qing has suspicions about the main character, who is also a reincarnated historical leader but one who lost his memories. Wei Qing comments that his bearing reminds him too much of the Xiongnu. Turns out the main character is a reincarnated Subutai. No wonder he felt familiar.
My personal favourite are Liu Bang and Zhu Yuanzhang, because I like underdog stories. They were originally minor official and peasant who rose to become the first emperors of the Han and Tang dynasty respectively.
Xiongnu: We are tactically retreating! Wei Qing: No, you are being driven back. Xiongnu: Hahah, yeah right. Xiongnu: You have been ambushed! Wei Qing: No, you are being flanked. Xiongnu: That's our line! Wei Qing: Not anymore!
Xiongnu or Hunu or Huns is the northern nomadic empire that China faced for the first time in Chinese history, just like the country of Yue has long been called Baiyue for the indigenous people in the south. Hu people became China's name for suspected white nomads in the north (because some people claimed to pee in the eye sockets of the royal family during the barbarian invasion to satirize the appearance of the royal family with deep eye sockets), and a common surname in the Chinese cultural circle , Such as the last Chinese President Hu Jintao, and Vietnam's first President Ho Chi Minh. After the Northern Huns moved westward and the Southern Huns annexed, China also faced four nomadic groups: Rouran, Turks, Huihu, and Mongolia. Rouran invaded China at the same time as the Romans in the West was invaded by the barbarians, but they became Chinese. The royal family of the early Second Empire who came from northern was integrated into Chinese culture. Then Turks exerted great military and political pressure on the Second Empire of China. However, this pressure was reduced after the split of the Turks and eventually the East Turks were in Huihu and Tang (a dynasty of the 2nd empire time) perished. During this period of time, because of the initial connection between the royal family and the grassland and the alliance, there was no national war, and then under the invasion of the Xiajiasi(黠戛斯) (today's Kyrgyz), Huihu Khanate became a vassal of the former and eventually moved westward. One part arrived in Xinjiang today and became Uyghur, and the other part became Yughur in western Gansu. These three words(Huihu Uyghur Yughur) have essentially the same meaning, and the translation versions are different. The difference between Uyghur and Yughur is mainly reflected in traditional beliefs and production methods. Uyghurs are now a farming nation, while Yughur still retains nomadic traditions. We all know the following story: Genghis Khan unified Mongolia. After the collapse of the Mongol Empire’s rule in China, because the previous claim of the Second Empire of China was broken, the successor Ming clearly claimed to be the heir of the Yuan which set up by Mongolian, and to this day we still refer to a series of dynasties starting from the Yuan (Yuan, Ming and Qing) Regarded as the Third Empire of China. During this period, although the northern nomads have always been Mongols, our relationship is in a very ambiguous state: theoretically, it has changed from a foreign war to a civil war, but in fact it is in the middle of the two, which is difficult to explain simply. This is also the reason of why is there a huge provincial administrative unit in China today called Inner Mongolia.

Weiqing didnt spark the shift in military composition, in fact the shift started decades before Weiqing was even born. And the infantry was effective against Xiongnu as demonstrated in the many defeats Xiongnu suffered. The biggest problem is how to pin the Xiongnu down after the Xiongnu fled.

Still have to train for years, preferably from childhood. Also the difference doesn’t matter much in a siege. In a flat country it’s better but usually if you have a crossbow you’re likely a walled civilization, so you’re not worried about extra costs of material if you can train more men faster.
LOL, just now I realized how badly transcripted the time divisions are xD Intro - "Weakness of the Han Army" : Well transcripted Famous General's names are poorly transcripted, but nothing too egregious But then... Hexi Corridor is transcripted as "Hershey". LOL!! A Chocolate Corridor! xD The Xiongnu -> The Shonu. What a stupid name change for a formerly threatening empire... Battle of Mobei is transcripted as "Battle of Mopey". The only mopey one was Li Guang, who ended taking his life... poor old meme. Whatever. Neat little details I love to find sometimes xD
Thats usually not the policy. I think the central court neither condemn nor condone such act. So, under some generals, such act did happen. After all, after u defeat them, u need their population for farming n labor.
