Defence minister 'confident' Canada will meet NATO targets with new spending

Ottawa’s 2024 defence policy has Canada on track to hit 1.76 per cent of GDP spending by 2029-30, getting closer to the NATO target of two per cent. Bill Blair, the minister of national defence, says the federal government will explore purchasing new submarine fleets as Canada’s submarines are ‘no longer fit for purpose.'
