I’ve watch this twice in the last two days As a three stripe white belt I went into open mat today with a different mindset I got taped once in 6 rolls I submitted Two people and the time ran Out on the other three. I found other white belts and blue belts frustrated at my ability to defend against Their attacks when I was not so focused on escaping the position Thank you very much I think you have now changed the way I roll for a lifetime

If we're talking about sidecontrol, you frame, bump and shrimp right? What bullshit against heavy guys. No dis to the art, but of course they crush that space before you can retain guard. What I started doing was bumping/shrimping so I could have space to snake my inside arm right under their body as they crush me. Even leave my outside arm exposed to isolation to provide distraction. I bump one more time and push my snaked arm against their body while spinning out on the other side. You've just learned the Ghost Sidecontrol Escape. You're welcome 👊

I love it man, Great job! I watch this every couple months, im a 1 strip white belt. Up through blue belts have a tough time getting through to submission. Purple belts have to get kind of creative.

You guys are Awesome! I’m 42, have been inactive for over a decade and decided it was time to do something. I’m 300 lbs and my body is broken from years of abuse and neglect. I signed my son and daughter up at one of your schools in Greensboro, NC and could not be happier with their progress in the short time they’ve been training. After two weeks, I too, signed up and have been working to better my physical and mental health. These videos give me hope I can work around physical limitations I now struggle with. Thank you for taking the time to produce these videos!

This is like super gold. What I've observed after training some years is that instructors and almost everyone else focus on TECHNIQUES but barely on CONCEPTS. Concepts come first! Learn carefully about concepts, understand them and after that learn sme few techniques, they'll greatly adapt the concepts. The Gracies are pretty much transmitting this idea here, they're teaching us important concepts, fundamentals. That's KEY! Anyway, thanks tons for sharing!

I love this advice. I actually looked into their grandfather's beginning years in forming the Gracie Jui-jitsu style and I remember reading about him going up against these bigger opponents and constantly ending up in draws. I never thought about the fact that his goal wasn't to always "win win," to get that submission or choke. He wasn't losing so he was winning 👍🏾

This is great! And these two guys, Ryron and Rener, as their father and a few of the other Gracies are GENTLEMEN. Non of this juvenile attempts at the big guy image -- cursing and swearing and rude inuendos. I always feel I can sit and watch them with my wife, or with any of my children. Real ambassadors! Real men! I'm trying to implement these principals at my Barra gym and having success. Thanks a lot men!

I’m about to finally start my BJJ journey at 35 years old. Ready to be humbled. I know I’ll be in inferior positions to start my journey, and I feel this video is going to my foundation until I learn enough to identify my own opportunities.

@daxthedza
@daxthedza 2 года назад
@@tcggggg 4-stripe white belt right now. Still lots of defending, but I’m able to seize opportunities now! The big thing for me was pace and not forcing things. I can launch offense on fellow white belts and some blue belts. I defend a lot against some blue belts and higher. I’d say the most-used escapes for me are arm bar escapes and back control escapes. Currently trying out spider guard to save my shoulders a bit. My left shoulder has been aching haha. Love this journey and community!
@tcggggg
@tcggggg 2 года назад
@@daxthedza wow! I started my journey about two weeks ago and feel very welcomed into my training gym. This is really good to hear, and I hope to learn better defense as well because I get put into armbars and guillotines by upper stripes all the time 😂
@daxthedza
@daxthedza 2 года назад
@@tcggggg congrats! IMO, white belt is the most important belt on this journey. It means you made a commitment on your own initiative. Defend and mind your fundamentals! Tight elbows and posture. At the same time, don’t be gun-shy if you think you can advance. Even if you lose position, you can ask how after. Try not to get caught the same way multiple times. Feedback is important. As they say … Win or learn! Good luck, brother!

That’s pure gold.....”if you are not losing you win in Jiu-Jitsu.” That seems to be the essence of Helio’s philosophy. I really try to defend and shut down first and foremost when I roll. I have such a better time and I find more opportunities present themselves to me when I stay in that mind set. I can also establish my pace. I’m feeling my way through rolling intuitively instead of trying think it to a victory.

Im a white belt and when they pass my guard fear steps in and my mind becomes blank to all the useful videos I've watched. I get it now. The train has to come to a complete stop before i can get on. Acceptance is the answer to all my problems. Stop there progress become aware of openings or create an opening. Now i see why black belts are like boa constrictors. They are just going with the flow. Im scared and ridged. Im going to stop the progress and receive the gifts. White belts give gifts by giving opening due to lack of knowledge and black belts you have to work hard to create an opening. Being comfortable gives me the gift of remembering my moves. I love Gracie jui jitsu.
