Defender of the crown NES Review! 

I actually love this game. I still have my original NES cart. Once you learn how it works, it's a great strategy game. Nobody knows how to do it, but there is actually a cheat code to start out with a ton of soldiers and knights. I somehow did it once but don't know how. No way was it a glitch. I wish there was a way to find out from the NES version programmers. I think it was around 250 soldiers and like 50 knights, but that's been a loooong time ago. Also, winning tournaments for fame will increase your leadership skills, thus speeding up your crossbow when defending your castle. Cedric is the best to start because of his leadership being strong, thus castle defense is easier.

Picked this game up in a lot of NES games a while back and was looking for a quick overview before I actually played it. Found you in the RU-vid search results and then saw quite a few comments from peeps I know from Twitter. XD Great review, dude! Super entertaining!

I loved this game and I didnt get it to around 1995 or 1996 when I bought a Nes at a car boot sale and found game in charity shop for next to nothing. But the learning curve is steep, or at least it just requires knowledge, the swordfights are simple if you know how the ai works, jousting just required keeping moving about too much, the hardest part was the sieges on your castle as you really needed a huge home army as the enemies were fast and you needed perfect angles of shot. What I used to do was get the castle next to Robins base that way I could quickly gain territories then retreat back to base for a few rounds building cash then using that to buy soldiers, once that is done you can begin attacking others and just going back and forth between base whilst your armies get bigger, once both home and main army are large you just stomp enemies and gain huge amounts of money.

I own this game for GBA and never played the game for more than 30 minutes. Maybe when the Apocalypse finally consumes the land, then I will devote some time to the game and "git gud" but I have too many options of other games.

Lol...I remember that Ultra commercial! It was featured at the beginning of an NES tip video I had way back! Never got into it myself tho, but the vid made it seem like one of the best games you could ever PLAY! I did try it a couple of times on my emu, and got stomped within the first 5 minutes! That mobile manager guy made me spit my beer out MULTIPLE TIMES! Only cuz it's so DAMN TRUE! Great vid, Bene! :-)

I hadn't ever heard of this until recently, and I'll echo what a lot of people said and say that I don't think I could get myself into a game like this. Kudos for playing through enough to do this review. Keep doing what you do, man.

I almost bought this Monday, but than I realized it wasn't an overcomplicated Koei game. Great video and for $2.99 I might grab it.

I remember picking this game in the store as a present for my tenth birthday. I chose it because of the knight picture on the box. Didn't understand any English so I just got lost in all those menus and had no clue as to what was going on. So after a day trying to play I started to panic and my parents took me back to the store to trade it for Battle of Olympus.

More entertaining than most other "critic" reviews out there. You did a great job.

This is such a UK made game, they must have a lot of people who like "storybook strategy" games.

Also if instead of rescuing the princess you ignore her cries you will go down one step on leadership Also before you take unclaimed territories read the map and look at number of vassals those are free soldiers that whoever gets there first gets

This was a really well executed and entertaining review! I was never really a fan of these types of games either, and even if I owned it I doubt I would've gotten too far into the game myself, so this was a nice sampler of what the game has to offer without having to test my patience, haha. Awesome and very entertaining review man! I remember renting the NES version of this game and wasn't too thrilled with it. I didn't have a NES to play games that made me think, I just wanted to shoot or slash stuff, lol. That being said, the game itself is pretty cool. It works MUCH better on the Amiga and the CD-i version I actually played quite a lot as well.

At risk of sounding like a BeneDickRider or even Buried On Mars, really awesome work as usual, and your editing, energy, seemingly perfect selection of images, and humor really set you apart from "the crowd" on RU-vid. You know, when I saw drafts of this before, I didn't really like the on-screen/voice-dubbed segments, but I changed my mind. I think you implemented it well and it really compliments your editing style. Some of the facial expressions/gestures really added to the humor. I'd like to see you continue doing that in your next review 8 months from now, but if it's too much of a pain in the ass, I can understand if you leave it out. BTW, best logo design ever.

Your new intro kicked all kinds of ass. This was one of those games that I saw in a game magazine and thought "look at those fucking graphics", actually wanted my grandma to get it for me for Christmas, thankfully I told her Double Dragon instead.

I feel like I've seen this before hmmmm... Nah but I thought this review was pretty different from the earlier version, so after I watched this I went back and watched that one and nope they're basically the same only some slight changes. That 3 seconds added to this one musta just fucked with my memory I guess. Still I thought this was something of a return to form, really awesome to see a "new" review after so long since that's what got me into your shit in the 1st place. As for the game I do think it seems really different from a lot of the games on the nes. Very cool how it has a bunch of different gameplay types, I don't think I could get into it but it is pretty unique. Anyways I'm fucking rambling. Awesome stuff as always bene.
