So happy the algorithm has brought me here, I love notes. It's my second favorite 75 record. This essay put words to how I feel about the album. Good Job! earned a sub!
No hate to Jack but Being Funny is their LEAST uninspired album if you ask me. Some fans have heard the demo versions of 'The 1975' as well as 'Part Of The Band', and are wishing that those were the official versions instead - which if they were, it would make me like them by a lot less. Justice for Notes!
We were ROBBED of a Notes tour. Damn you COVID. 😭 A mess of an album that will always remind me of a strange and stressful time in my life, but i will come back to it every now and then on a long drive.
honestly notes on a conditional form is my favourite record by the 1975. it’s not perfect but to me the imperfections make it perfect. i love how it’s like a time capsule filled with a wide range of musical styles and shifts in moods. i don’t expect it to be everybody’s thing but it makes me happy to see videos like this!!! show more love to notes!!!
I think this album was way ahead of its time and still is. I’ll never forget when they opened their show with People at their Sydney show at the end of the Brief Enquiry tour. It was before the album had been released, but it was one of the most electric feelings I’ve ever felt. Having a Notes tour would’ve been incredible.
great commentary! like a lot of fans, I think this album was dismissed too quickly, whether due to the length, structure or the pandemic. it’s telling to me that this is the album matty most often discusses and defends. every time I return to it I get something new from it. like you mentioned, i also think it has some of their best tracks and I think “guys” is one of their most overlooked songs. that song perfectly represents the crux of the band itself and part of why I love them so much - because they all love each other so much
While I'm personally not a fan of this record, I appreciate a video of someone just getting to talk about why they love a record and it being very positive rather than a video trying to tell me why I'm wrong for not liking something.
it's a tough decision for me but I think this is my favorite 1975 album. anyone taking the time to talk about it in a positive light, i'll happily listen. gj!
Notes is probably my favourite album of theirs. It reminds me of what the white album is for The Beatles: it’s polarising, probably a bit too long, but full of gems in their discography that I’m honestly happy haven’t been overexploited.
Feel like people doesn't get enough credit for how punchy and strong it is and how much of an agressive and ballsy statement it starts the album off on. Feels like u missed it out in the bangers section of the video. Also apreciate how much it divided and challenged their audience to actually listen to something more agressive for once compared to their poppier stuff
i love notes, it’s such an important album to me. i was 16 when it dropped and whenever i hear it i get instantly transported to me alone in my old bedroom at 3 am. i’m glad someone else understands it the same way i do :)
great video. i definitely didn't love the album, but it had my two of my favorite songs they've ever made on it, with frail state of mind and me & you together song, so happy to take the highs with (imo) some of the lows
I remember during the single releases I was soooo hooked and once the full album came out I felt confused and only liked it a little. A year ish or so later (once my brain let me focus on something other than covid lol), i spent more time listening to notes in full and was so mad that I overlooked it. It’s definitely one of my favorite albums ever now honestly. thank you for this video it made me feel like i was back in 2019/2020 hyping up the release and preparing for the BEST TOUR LINEUP that we will never get back sadly…..
The way you articulated your thoughts through this video is incredible, I hope you make more videos like this, I had a wonderful time watching, and can't wait to see what you have in store! PS Knowing you, I'd love for you to talk about "I like it when you sleep" at length, you have thoughts on that album that deserve to be heard!
Hey my Friend , I have seen your videos which are really awesome and video Thumbnails are so eye-catching. But due to some errors in your Channel and Videos like (SEO and Optimization ) Your videos are not Reaching your Targeted audience and that's why after uploading a lot of videos you are not getting expected Views and Subscribers in your channel . I am a RU-vid SEO Expert and if you want I can help you to solve these problems. As a result I can say that you will be able to see much better results than you currently have in your Channel.
I think this album is the 1975's best. It's like you said, I feel like they made the album 22 tracks as a meta way to make fun artists who make their albums that long just for streams and numbers. The 1975 use the different genres as a way to appeal to everyone but at the same time, being risky and the fact that it came out in 2020, it shows how they saw how this decade would pan out artistically; how artificial and over advertised mainstream music would become but through that you could say that this is the 1975's most vulnerable album. It's messy, but so is life and the current generation. That's why I love this album.
Brooo you should be bigger. Nice stuff man. I don’t think this is the best 1975 album but I’ve always thought it had their best songs. I’ve grown to like it over the years.
I really feel very validated by this video essay and this comment section. This is so necessary. I feel alive. Other bagsy not in net enjoyers. It’s so weird because this was my first 1975 album and over time I went from feeing like there was a perfect 10-12 track album here to not daring to skip a song. I really think their last two efforts are some of the best stuff ever.
Notes, for me, cemented my love for George as a producer and I will never shut up about it. I've said before that George is wasted in the band and tbh I don't think that's correct but it is annoying that when they do an electronic-focused album it 'flops' but when they do a tumblr pop album it blows up (and i became a fan after getting over their tumblr pop stuff and realising they're a very versatile band)
I remember this album was when I fell off of The 1975 after they were my favorite band for a couple of years, but this video definitely has me wanting to come back to it and give another chance
such a fantastic video essay, I have been wanting a video like this ever since this album came out and I am so happy I found it. You touched on every part that makes this album so special and genius to me, great job
Your comment has made my day :) thank you so much! It's such a special album, someone had to make a video on it eventually so I figured it may as well be me haha
Messiest and best album ever. I could give a shit about a singular theme. It has like 8 themes and 13 genres and kills each one. These boys were in their mf pockets
While it is my least favorite 1975 album….I still love it. My favorite album from them is their debut. To this day, Settle Down, She Way Out and MONEY are just perfect songs to me….but Tonight I Wish…is in my Top 10 of their entire catalog so….while I think there are several bangers on Notes…it doesn’t hit me the way the other albums do, but the case you made here is absolutely stellar! Thanks for a great video!
this might be the only thing ive ever seen actually convince me to go relisten to notes, please please make videos about their other albums, I'm so curious what your thoughts are
As someone who has watched a lot, and I mean a lot, of RU-vid content creators, I need you to know that you have Got It. You are blessed with the right combination of skills and personality traits to be successful, and I could easily see a world where this has over a million views. I sincerely hope you keep making videos like this.
Loved this video a lot. I've come back to this album a few times, but never really had the time to sit down and listen to it properly. Also, casually just dropping the most heavenly song known to man (The End (Music for cars) ) is insane.. Would love to talk about collabing one day!
Interestingly enough, this is my most relistened 1975 album. And it’s not because the songs are better than on other albums, they’re not. But maybe because on other albums songs are more “predictable” for the lack of a better word and follow a similar direction in general. In case of NOACF, it’s more like a journey which goes in a lot of different directions, most songs are not typical hits, instead they‘re more chilled out and have a lot of elements to them so it’s more interesting to listen to (at least when you listen to the entire album instead of some songs separately). My description is probably as messy as the album itself but it’s the best way I can describe my take on it😁
notes is one of their most underrated honestly...i miss this era so much (even though i canNOT with the interludes) and i'm excited to watch this video
I kinda forgot how many great songs there are on notes until watching this. It’s a great video and I’d love one on ILIWYS cause it’s my favorite album, thanks.
It's a masterpiece and an unfiltered version of who the band really is. You nailed it with this: "For the people who only want to hear the band 'at their very best'....maybe this is a nightmare." I, personally, think their very best is in between 'their very best' and this album offers that.
Cinematic flow that connects the big parts to the slow parts ! Literally I find myself gravitating especially with this album to listening it in full rather than adding the songs I like the most to another bigger playlist on shuffle as you cannot beat the deep breaths between each song and the beauty in streaming to the birthday party or the whole zigzag but flowing ordeal of then because she goes to m&yts. I think this also goes with iliwys aswell, I can’t appreciate the big pop ballads in the album without the whole movement through lostmyhead and the title track 🎉 loved this video
instant subscribe. My god that was good. I have a LOT I could say....but I won't. Just imagine the most effervescently praising comment you can imagine. That's what I would type were I not feeling mildly self conscious about doing such a thing right now. PLEASE make more videos like this. You're very very good at this.
Hmmm yeah, no, the album is not good overall. I know a while after something is released people like to release their hot take video essays and then people will come out of the woodwork agreeing and saying it’s a masterpiece even though it was universally panned. It had some amazing singles but it’s just stuffed with random beats and not to mention the weird ass music videos that are 2deep4me. You can over analyze everything but the album’s still not a great listen.
