Thank you so much for this. I have a Pomeranian pup, and last month, we were attacked by our neighbor's off-leash pitbull mix while we were out minding our business. My dog didn't get bit because I picked her up and shielded her, but I ended up getting bit on my lower back and went to the hospital. Even though the dog is now strictly on a prong collar and a leash while outside I still get extremely nervous whenever I bring my dog outside. I purchased a break stick after the incident just in case but I will definitely get that stun gun when I have the extra money.

Thank you so much for this video! Yesterday, I had a very bad experience with a large off-leash dog and had no way to defend myself and my dog. Thankfully, after screaming for help, a kind man came to my rescue. That experience was a wake-up call. I am purchasing both of these products because they make sense, are easy to use, and both are a reasonably priced.

Hi. Thank you so much for a professional dog trainer to get on RU-vid and speak about this immensely prolific and dangerous situation. Check out this story. I have a 25-pound service dog. I was a dog trainer for 20 years I trained the dog myself and he is very calm and confident, just like a service dog should be. he has been attacked five separate times. By dogs off leash, and one idiot who took their flexi lead and said oh my dog wants to sniff your dog. and I said no and they said what's wrong with you and before I could talk the dog was on top of my dog. What I use, and I'm definitely going to get that stun gun thank you for the recommendation. What I use is police grade mace and it's in a holster attached to the palm of my hand and it shoots out a stream. I have used it once on a pitty that was like on steroids. it put that dog down so fast and then I ran with my dog. But the other times what bothers me the most is these off-leash dogs the owners literally did nothing. they didn't call their dog off my dog. I'm screaming and crying my dog almost got killed once. That's why I never take my dog to a dog park and I always always walk with my can of Mace attached to my hand because of these five attacks by random dogs coming up and attacking viciously my little dog. Now as you said he is frightened and the way he shows his fear is if a dog comes near him he starts barking and growling like hes a strong man. But he's not. Thank you Adam for your info. Glad you did this video to help keep people safe. I go for morning runs everyday and I don't leave my house without a stun gun. Here is my take I may not have dog, but I am a huge dog lover. I love them, however not all dogs are friendly. Just like people there can be dangerous dogs. So with that being said I carry one. For people who say oh that is animal cruelty. Adam and no one is saying to hit every dog with it. For example I don't go around hitting dogs with it. So for people think animal cruelty calm your jets. My tips are if I see a dog in my neighborhood and they are lose I will slowly walk away and avoid it and won't use my taser I have it on stand by. Now if the dog starts growling and showing it's teeth and running towards me than we have a problem. So I would use the stun gun to try to scare it of the time it should work dogs have sensitive ears and just the sound will make them run off. If that does not work than you may have to hit the dog, but it should not kill the dog. It may hurt the dog and give you time to get to safety. Last year on the news a mail lady was maulid to death by neighborhood dogs so you have to do what you have to do. To keep yourself children around you and your dogs safe from vicious dogs.

My 11lb Shihtzu is already a shy nervous dog. We were attacked by a big dog not on their leash. I was finally able to pick her up but I thought I’d have to pepper spray the other dog. Terrifying. So now I’m on here trying to figure out how to avoid something like pepper spray. On the way back she wouldn’t keep walking, she was too afraid and now I’m going to have to retrain her fear. Dear dog owners: please keep your dog leashed when outdoors if you do not have an electric fence. 😣

My dog just got attacked an hour ago, pit bull bloodhound mix? He was a old pup but he grabbed my small corgy huskys back pretty good. I feel so dumb for bot bringing SOMETHING with me. She is ok. Thank god owner helped (dog got out of open gate). Def getting that stun-gun***for sure**** and a good pole. Thank you!!!

Thank you... I do like the walking pole idea. When my dad passed away, we took on his little, senior dog. We were attacked one early morning while walking our new addition, by 3 LARGE DOGS! The lady had all 3 off leash, one came running at us, the other 2 followed. It was a terrifying moment to say the least. BTW... this happened in a school area! After that incident, I always walk with something that looks like a cane, but is made of lead. Keep your untrained dogs away from me and my dog... or else! 😉

Thank you! Just ran into a close call today with an aggressive goldendoodle. Had to use my tote bag as a barrier and yell at the dog to leave. Thankfully my dog is passive and the doodle didn’t wanna mess with me!

My border collie and I were walking in the woods when a huge German Shepherd appeared on the path ahead of us, it's owner nowhere around. The German Shepherd took one look at us and charged. I grabbed my dog, thankfully she was close enough. Always keep your dog close enough to grab or on leash. I had my hiking stick with me, I placed it at an angle, point on the ground to create the best barrier between us and the charging dog. I held that German Shepherd dog at bay for at least 5 mins before the owner finally turned up. The German Shepherd kept circling around us trying to get to my dog and I moved the stick around with us, blocking it every time. It was baffled by the barrier. Since then I have always carried a hiking stick with me and kept off many other dogs that were trying to attack my dog. One was a Great Pyrennees, another a Jack Russell. Kept a pack of four dogs off like that once. Never had to hit the attacking dogs with the stick, just holding that barrier worked while yelling 'NO!' worked. Though I did have to swing the stick at that Jack Russell, those things are relentless. I am just hoping I don't meet an attacking dog smart enough to figure out that they could get past the stick.

Extendable Baton

Very educational video; almost had a scary encounter with an unleashed dog while I was riding my bike. It quit its pursuit after I kept pedaling! But for future potential encounters, I may get one of these stun guns. Since I know nothing of them; the prices for these on Amazon seem so inexpensive that it made me wonder if the stun guns less than 20 dollars are actually good quality? I was expecting these to cost under 99 bucks at least.

I checked Amazon for this stun gun & received this message: "This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location." I then learned that, in Wisconsin, in order to carry a stun gun, one needs a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Thank you! But my problem isn’t other dogs it’s people. The other day I had a man follow me walking my dog. He keep looking at my dog the whole time. I picked them up and went home. I’m for sure getting these.

I've read that stun guns are not effective on furry creatures. Do the metal leads need to make skin contact to apply the shock? The electric popping sounds should be enough to deter an animal from approaching us, but in case it makes contact with her, I want to know it could deliver enough of a shock for us to get away. I love dogs and would never want to hurt one but if it's trying to attack me or my baby girl, it's going down. We were just charged by two stray dogs in my new neighborhood, and now I'm scared to walk her at night by myself.

I don't know. 10 dollars for a taser/stun gun has me rather skeptical things priced like that tend to be cheap crap.

I have a German Shepherd that I take for walks around the block and this one girl never has her dogs on a leash and they run out of their yard across the street to me and my dog as we are walking past to get home. There dogs get my dog scared because they are off leash and have growled and barked at my dog. What should I do? My dog today tried to defend itself when the dogs approached. The lady does nothing ever and gets mad because I tell her she needs to go keep her dogs in her yard and control them so they don’t come across the street and try to hurt my dog when I’m walking it. How do I handle this issues next time?

my concern is the small stun gun you have you need to get close to use it. with a baton stick stun gun you have some distance. I don't think it is a good idea to put your hand close to a dog to stun it when they are worked up fighting and in a frenzy.

Thank you so much. I used to have a smaller dog, who lives with my sister atm, and off leash dogs would charge at us almost every day. Luckily, he is very calm, and i could just pick him up and the dogs would go away. I'm going to get a bigger dog now, so obviously that won't be as easy. I also realized how lucky i was that none of the dogs that charged at us were aggressive towards me so i didn't get hurt. This video was very helpful and i'll be getting a stun gun soon! My only concern is that would it scare my dog with the noise of the gun as well? I know it's better to be safe but i was just wondering if anyone would know.

You are so lucky that you have these devices to protect your pets from asshole dogs owned by cretins. I can't buy these in UK. My very gentle assistance dog gets bullied by certain dogs. I wish I could have one of these stun guns. You don't know how lucky you are.
