Installed this today. Super easy install. Thank you for explaining the settings more in depth. Luckily I turned off the dusk to dawn, that would’ve pissed off some neighbors lol.
Thank you so much! The instructions on the unit (I have a different model) were useless, as were the personnel in the hardware store, and other videos, including Defiant's videos. This video was clear and concise and gave me all the information I needed to understand the settings. Much appreciated.
Bought this light from home depot in Ontario. Called the number on the instruction book for a light shield. Sorry they we can’t get one for you must return and get a new box. Well I just payed someone to install it so now I have to pay him to take it down and then get him to reinstall it. Thanks HOME DEPOT. Great service.
It's nice you are making sure it's not shining on your neighbors!! Not many neighbors are so considerate Mine had a very bright dusk to dawn light even though there is a streetlight very close. It's almost daylight all night.
After 2 years mines has stopped working. When it was working it was great. I can see the LEDs still trying to come on but are extremely faint to where you really have to look close to tell. From all the Home Depot reviews it seems to only have a 2 to 3 year life span on average. Great review though.
@@cheyennejohn51 there is no fix. I did some complaining to a home depot manager since the manufacturer would not honor their warranty. Ended up getting a store credit for another; which is currently still working great!
Thank you very much for this video! Straightforward and comprehensive. Installation was so simple I briefly wondered if I had skipped a step (Haha!). Thank you!
I have two lights that are similar and my brother also has one. My lights worked well for a couple years but now one stopped working and the other one seems to flash off and on all night long. I noticed that my brothers light also flashes off and on now. I paid around 70+ for each at Lowes and it's really not worth the money paid considering they didn't last long. My original light only used about $2. a month. So it would have been only $48. in electric use for the two years with the old light. They are nice to mount where there is no electric to plug into but will cost more in the long run.
Yes.....LEDs fail ....I remember when they first came out....had a serious fail problem....and they still do....not worth the added expense to purchase when odds are good.... they with fail
Any idea why mine suddenly won’t turn on to full bright? It used to work fine, but now will only light half bright. I have it set to dusk to dawn and 20 minutes.
Great light when it’s working, but mines absolute junk has an issue that hasn’t been addressed. I’ve seen lots of comments on forms about this light just stop working and a very dim glowing starts to happen then it’s time to replace.
+RomaBoy It's the camera. LEDs run on a frequency like florescents do and at some angles it will confuse the image processor in a camera. The light is a steady white.
Question. When this light burns out is this security light changeable? Or is this a one-time, your done, throw away security light? If changeable, please provide instructions or post vid on how too. Much appreciated! Thank You.
These sealed lights are no good once they burn out. But since they last so long, it's not usually an issue. Being used as a motion light, they should last a decade or more.
Ours was installed in 2018, so it's 5 years old and stopped working. The message above said you can't replace a bulb, but the bulbs are supposed to last decades. our light wasn't working --but it was both bulbs at the same time. So, we decided that was strange and it must be the electronics. We turned off the power to the switch for 30 sec, and that didn't fix it. BUT, then we went to the breaker and turned that off for over a minute and it's working again! Thank goodness, that was an easy fix. Thanks @hpiguy tostart this convo 4 years ago@@hpiguy

Walking straight up the driveway it wont turn on until I'm right under the unit, side to side works but what happens if you have a narrow driveway ? Not happy with this light
thanks or the video. is there any way to add a filter or a gel to the light to make the light not as bright or at least not as white? i know it sounds silly to do so. we recently installed the light over our garage, and the bright white light is much much brighter than we anticipated, especially at the 1/2 power level
+Eric Reinhold I wold think any clear plastic film would be fine on the outside of the lens. Pick your tint and attach it with packaging tape. It doesn't get very hot on the lens.
Maybe the sensor is bad, or something is moving near it to set it off. 20 minutes is along time to set the light to stay on for with motion, it may never get a chance to turn off before it's activated again.
So for the dusk to dawn mode, the sun goes down and goes into a low light and doesnt shut off until dawn ? Because I want my sensor to turn on when it detects any motion at night and stop at day please help ! Thanks
Does this have the same high intensity bright light that you mentioned on the 270 degree model? I'm looking for something not too bright so my neighbor won't complain.
Did you say you have to get up close to the sensor to activate it ? I have a security light and sensor I got from HD and in order to get the light to turn on, I have to be right up on the sensor. This is not good when I'm backing the car into the driveway. Note I have set the adjustment to sensitive, thanks.
One more question about the DualBrite feature. Where I want to install this light above my garage door I have a single switch. How does this feature work? Is it automatic when the switch is left on? Thanks
Dumb question...there's no way to manually turn this off temporarily with the settings on the light itself? If you are in the front yard at night, for example, you don't necessarily need this motion light on during that time. Just curious.
Most motion lights don't have an off switch built in. But you can install a switch before the light and shut it off that way, leaving it turned on most of the time when you want it operating.
When i turn on the light switch it comes on but if i turn the switch off and want to turn it on again it wont i have to wait for 2 days so it can work again dont know whats wrong with it or am i doing something wrong!?!
The manual says it will stay on all the time with a switch if you flip the light off, then turn it back on instantly, but for switch operation they do make a switched model, no motion detector, Home Depot's website has them. I don't have the product number though, a search of their site for switched LED should narrow it down.
Why does mine keep going off at night when I can’t see anything around to cause it go off? I changed the settings two and then just moved the sensor down and towards the door (always from trees) to see if that helps. It scares me when home alone. Any help?
Possibly something setting off the motion sensor a lot, warm or cold air, a strong breeze or it may be defective. A large bug like a moth or bats, rabbit can set it off it's set too sensitive.
Eveything about this light is great Except you practically have to Dance directly underneath this thing to get it to turn on "while its set to Off" (meaning its only a motion dectected light) I even have the Sensitivity set to High...So thats the Only downfall about these
+racemiami1 Everyone's installation will be specific to their mounting location. Mine was simply one screw through the hole in the mounting plate and to the wall. Yours may involve mounting it to masonry, an electrical box, etc.
I want to ask if you could do me a favor to test our led lighting samples, Because I have watch your youtube video and really appreciate it. We have a factory producing wall pack lighing, recessed lighting, solar security lighting, street lighing etc, we would like to provide some free samples to you for testing if you like. Looking forward to work with u
The light I bought is going back to HD the one I bought is fully adjusted with an app & can't get the light to stay off! & it's Not on a dimmer or on a circuit with a motor & nothing in front of sensor! Last time I buy a Defiant brand product all their products are crap! Everything from their LED flashlights to locks! bottom of the barrel.
Nice video, piece of crap product. Mine failed in less than a year. Comes on when the sun goes down, although the dusk to dawn is set to off. Stays on all night, doesn't matter if there is motion or not. Thought it was temperature sensitive, but goes bad in the summer time and winter time. Over priced, don't buy it. Jim
