The worst part of the L'etranger is probably that it's so good that I've become dependant on it, I struggle using any other revolver

The real worst part of the L'Etranger is that 90% of TF2 players will just call it the L'Etranger and the other 10% will correct them that the L' already means the so it's just L'Etranger

I honestly think you did the gain cloak on hit stat dirty. The synergy it has with the DR & Kunai is insane because it effectively allows a hyper-aggressive playstyle with the Kunai that beckons to the ammo recharging DR of old. You get kunai stab, via trickstab or not it does not matter, you use DR to tank incoming damage (and more importantly, save overheal), decloak and you stab again very soon after, you shoot 2-3 times max (if you pop DR very quickly), use massive speed + DMG resist (and overheal) to constantly bruteforce stabs nonstop, rinse and repeat. Its even more dirty than the DR kunai amby combo because it fully maximizes how much time you eek out of that overheal from each stab (to brute force chain another one).

Awesome vid, I always enjoy the way you go in depth and include examples of stats and use cases that you mention. Highlighting all the ways the 40% cloak can be used was very interesting

It's honestly refreshing watching a mid-tier skilled player get a leg in on TF2, like I've got 5k hours in the game and only play a tiny bit better than you do. No need to be top of your game to weigh in on things, great stuff.

one of my favorite parts of the french invisible gun, on both 2fort and harvest, you can get from your spawn room, to the enemies spawn room, with out ammo packs. i also use it on thunder mountain with the C&D to terrorize engies, snipers and heavies

Quick nitpick, "L'" is already a contraction of "The", so your title right now translates to: "The the stranger"

The revelation that this specific gun benefits spy probably even more consistently than the diamondbacks and yet the diamondback is hated but this never gets much discussion made me think that it’s not even the ease of diamondback’s utility that triggers people, it’s that said ease is Immediately traceable to being shot in the face for critical damage, while the longer cloak duration is never noticed by anyone, ironically, despite it very much leading to the spy killing more people more often than is the case with diamondback.

Saying the gunboats is the pseudo stock option is both wrong and asinine, we all know the right answer is the bison.

Alot of spies weapon are based on doing damage things that can get you extra damage in certain situations. Yet it's the gun that does less damage (which yes actually does suck alot, the revolver does alot of damage.) But the usefulness of having longer cloak and getting it back with shots too is so good in most cases. Also you really underplayed the cloak on hit, massively you may it seem pretty much useless. When in reality it's very useful in many cases such as just shooting people when you're cloak runs out and run away again. I felt like you looked at it like you had to kill people with it and even you said that's not it's job. Like holy shit it's such a huge help even if you don't realize it. It's like a over powered character in a fighting game you don't notice how powerful one of their tools is because they have something so much more fucking powerful. Although I think it's the best gun give the other weapons a shot they can be surprisingly effective and if you haven't play spy recently you might find some fun with other guns.

As a spy main, it's like adding a frame on the base of an unstable tower it helps, but ain't no way spy is consistent...which is why I love him no 2games are the same BECAUSE of how unconsistent he is Yet having a little consistency is nice cuz when I try bad loadouts it's either extreme high but usually extreme low so it helps negates the low even if I can't have inf crits cuz I moved my mouse funny(still makes my brain happy when I use it tho)

L'etranger + Dead Ringer = Immortal Spy.

engineer loadout is fine, i'd recommend playing around with the panic attack since it might make it easier to hit the balls at closer range

I love using this revolver with the cloak and dagger and big earner for the ultimate cloak kit. I have more charge, can remain it in for as long as i want, and backstabs can replenish it when making risky plays with it's faster drain.

+15% cloak on hit is meant to give you a chance to escape if you are caught surrounded by enemies without any cloak. What this means is that this gun should be used not for combat, but for getting cloak to run away. Also another thing I noticed is that in some of your clips you were surrounded by entire enemy team with full cloak meter, but for some reason you continue to fight them and just die horribly.

As a gunspy main, it's honestly still a good weapon if your aim is on point with the DR. Sure, you deal a lot less damage but you become practically impossible to kill if you combine it with the spycicle. You can keep that cloak up and do moderate damage almost constantly. I just prefer outright killing most of the time, so I use stock most often. Nothing quite like pecking through the enemy team one player at a time with 40ish damage at a moderate range, amirite?

I tend to play C&D + L'etranger + Stock Knife. I mostly dislike relying on enemies being dumb to make disguises work so being able to stay invisible as much as I can between picks is my go-to playstyle. Being able to afford not running away AND able to afford running away between stabs is great also I just don't trust the other daggers to not fuck me over with things like lower base health or inability to disguise in the field

I know TF2 updates are kinda gone forever, but I think an effective way to "nerf" L'Etranger is to buff Spy's base cloak duration by 1 second and bring L'Etranger's cloak duration increase down by the same amount to compensate. Spy's base cloak duration feels extremely miserable to work with, so most Spy players feel forced to use L'Etranger even if they'd like to give other revolvers a try.

That Engineer will haunt my dreams until the day I die. SO if that was the goal- Congrats!

10:50 ight im gonna bring this up, small ammo packs give 20% of total ammo, medium packs give 50%, large 100%. Thats why engies get 40, 100, and 200 metal from each respective pack. The cloak amount with L'Etranger is _larger_ and so gains 50% of a 14 second cloak; getting 7 seconds, so the explanation that you get more cloak per pack was kinda silly

As a spy that runs YER, stock revolver and C&D i gotta wonder just necessary that cloak is Then again, I'm not exactly the best at that whole staying alive thing But then again again, I really dont think that ever tends to be the fault of running out of cloak

Great for the very consistent gun based spy play style despite having a 20% dmg penalty. Especially if you are very careful when choosing your fights.

Good video! I like your analysis of the stats and their applicability. Not a lot of people are so insightful about these things. Did you notice you're saying item names wrong? You pronounced L'etranger fine, but it's not "The L'etranger". Some item names in TF2 start with "the", but l'etranger is not one of them. Neither is Your Eternal Reward. This is still better than other videos about this item because you did not make an unfunny joke about not wanting to learn the pronunciation, and even the tf2 wiki gets this wrong.

This will sound dumb, but I swear to god I have pin point accuracy when running the Le Trenger. I have pretty good accuracy with stock and diamond back, but with this thing I never miss shots and am consistently gunning down soldiers and medics. It is the weirdest thing.

i feel that with "Refusing to use the Revolver" i also had that problem until i finally got a bit aim and Started to Fully use Spys kit

I genuinely think it's a little overtuned, the standard revolver struggles to compare. It might be healthier for the game if they reduce the cloak duration buff of the l'etranger to +20% and just apply the other +20% to spy in general. Or otherwise just reduce the cloak duration buff to +20% and that's it. Really, the only reason the L'etranger isn't considered broken is because the diamondback is really stupid and the ambassador is still kind of a beast after the nerfs

Interestingly, despite defining a class, TF2 is not the greatest game at that, sure most classes will be defined or can be slightly reworked due to one specific gamemode, but in my opinion, I am looking at the engineer and noticed everything contains something that isn't stock, except for the construction PDA.

Honestly, you should use the Enforcer to practice your aim. It already shoots 20% slower, so you can't spam out your shots.
