This is the first I've seen of this year's crop of shows, and it has set what might be an unreasonably high bar. Good Lord, that first hit. Textbook DCI chillbumps.
Someone who aged out last year that means your opinion means nothing because Crown sounded like crap last year compared to any other Crown yearb. 2023 was a rough year @whodat1967
There’s an old friend of mine driving one of Crown’s trucks this year, trust me when I say this: it’s 1,000% without a doubt him who is screaming lol. I’ve heard that same yell plenty of times before, and I don’t think I’ve personally ever seen Harloff scream during a show like that. Doesn’t sound like him either
Love the uniforms and the show's production. The uniforms beckons back to the Bayonne Bridgemen. "Promethean" was the Greek god that gave fire to humans. "Prometheanism" was also the political movement in early 20th Century Poland to weaken the Russian Empire by supporting nationalist independence movements.
Another dancing band. They do a great job performing, that program. I'm not a fan of these programs, I am old school drum and bugle c o r p s. That no longer exists in my opinion DCI is the reason for what was one of the greatest, youth activities in North America . People should get together and come up with a new title for this type activity you definitely can't call it a drum and bugle Corps. They went the way of the dodo bird. A new name for the activity I believe, would drawer more people in the audience. Just my opinion I'm not being critical of what they're doing I support it❤❤🎉
Make sure you guys save this before it gets striked! (if this gets striked i totally most definitely do NOT have a creamy cheesecake recipe to fill in the void 😉)
The first 2 minutes I'm falling a sleep. It took 9 minutes into the show after the solo for the horn line to get the crowd to cheer. Technically they are Very Good.
Top 3 in random order: Bluecoats Crown Blue Devils Next in random order: Boston SCV Phantom Mandarins And then: Cavies Blue Stars Colts Troopers 12th: Could be anyone.
lol been calling it every year since like 2014 and I'm usually right. Don't agree, but Crown in 4th :( Would love to see the cavaliers get back the 2000s cavaliers.
Holy percussion! Pit and D-line are so melodic together with the rest of the horns. It’s beautiful. Also, at 5:08, where have I heard this in a past dci show? Same with 8:00… sounds familiar too… almost similar to phantom 2022.
@Ace_v120 Yep. It's his second year. The book this year is good stuff compared to last year which was good too. Hopefully Crown stays in top 3 percussion this year. We will see with SCV back.
@Ace_v120 no way! Lets go! I think jackson's writing is thoughtful and the grooves are always quality. The vocoder on the snare is fresh (tbt BK '17). He and kevin shaw always do it up right, and w six basses, extra tasty doughnut recipe they cooked up here.
To be 100% honest, after seeing this show in-person a couple days ago now, it was disappointing. I love Crown and pretty much bought tickets this past weekend exclusively to see them (even with other outstanding corps at the same competition), and after seeing their performance was left frustrated. Even though I'm pretty sure their show isn't finished yet and of course they have fine-tuning to do, it feels like the music writing for this year really dropped the ball. Lots of really big hits and cool chords, but aside from that there's not much interesting "exposed" sections that are super memorable to me. If you're into the bigger hits exclusively, then I'd say it's a pretty good show, but if you're looking for more than just that (as I was), it's a very disappointing show. Though I went into it with iffy expectations, Boston Crusaders' show is 100% my favorite this year so far, at least out of shows I've seen in-person and online.
