I really love watching your journey with her. You put so much effort into your journey. If you're looking to correct behaviour, we know from the studies on how horses learn that correction needs to be delivered within 3 seconds of the behaviour you're trying to correct, otherwise they don't relate the correction to the right behaviour. So I'd suggest that it's probably not worth using your whip as you do, because she won't understand what it's for. Their brains are different than ours. Good luck with it all, she's really lovely ❤

My horse is a menace when not on his supplement. It's a general supplement with magnesium and vitamin B. He's a headshaker and the magnesium helps. The point of this rambling is that if you find what works for your horse, it can make all the difference.

How does the magnesium help the head shaking? My horse sometimes does it, so curious to know and try new things

@@lilacdratini The first thing you need to do as regards headshaking is to see what your horse's triggers are. My horse is a photic headshaker. So he wears a UV filtering flymask. Another trigger for him is sugar in his feed. If his feed has molasses in it, he goes into a headshaking frenzy. Magnesium is something that I read about on the internet. Magnesium is used a lot in Australia as a calming supplement. I think it calms the nerve in the horse's head that's causing the perceived pain. Because it's perceived pain, painkillers don't work. So I suggest first trying to find the trigger(s) and then start working on solutions. If you want to involve your vet, be sure to have video of your horse headshaking in case the horse doesn't do it when the vet visits.

Nice job! I wonder if a mare supplement would help as she does seem to have a little bit of that mare attitude???

Don't let things deflate you! I think you're right, she's at that kind of hard headed know it all teenage stage, you need to watch this back and see how argumentative she's being in her stable 😂 stay the course, you know you both can do this just happy mum's day and don't accept her sass! It's all practice for the next one 😊 remember when you said you didn't want a baby pony? She's not so much a baby anymore and she has to learn the right ways 😁 this is all good because you did practice what you learned, the camp with Fred was very good and you did very well and soon enough she'll do better without arguing ❤😊 Great job!

You did a great job! The sass tells me that she is super confident and full of her self. Which honestly is a great thing cause you want a confident horse. She’s so young that she will work it out and eventually realize that you are partners and that’s it’s easier and more fun when you work together. It just takes time and more experience on her part. My gelding and I went through the same thing for a year of competition and now this winter it’s like a light bulb went on and he’s waiting on me and he very confident and hopefully will do the same thing in the show arena this year. Our first show is in May cause I live in Canada and we still have snow lol 😅

Bloody ponies!! 😂 we all know Addie has the ability, and I truely believe they are here to teach us - rather than make it too easy for you, she is helping you to learn more and become an even more amazing horsewoman ❤ I wish I had your calm and patience! I was almost in tears last night with my boy, but watching this, I’m taking a leaf from your tree and taking on your attitude. Calm focus and keep moving forward. Thank you for sharing and you’ll never know how much you have inspired me this morning!! Sending you love from Aust xoxo 🤠❤️

She definitely learnt from that first round! I know it can feel so frustrating when things don't go how you want but training a young horse is always such a rollercoaster. Stick at it! Xx

Isn’t it wonderful when they progress through the round and jump the second round even better! You’re doing such a great job. It will all come together as she gets stronger and can carry a more collected canter. And remember you have time before the bell to go around the arena and go by the scary areas. Also sometimes it is good to go around the jump after a stop and show them the landing side if that might be helpful. Such a lovely mare and you ride so well!!!

Hi Emily, I went through something similar last year when my horse was six, we compete at affiliated dressage and my boy had started to become quite spooky and a bit anxious. I suspected possible ulcers or a bit of ulcer related tummy pain. I was recommended a supplement from equine exceed called gastro step 1. Now I am very wary of supplements and wasn't very positive but I gave it a try and I have never looked back. My horse is now on just a maintenance dose but I can honestly say it's been fantastic. It could be worth you giving them a call, they are really helpful and you might just make Addie that bit more comfortable. Good luck

Huge improvement hun she is ready to work harder and more as they have more energy as they get older and doing more and asking more of them helps some of them love to work and addie loves her job

I think you ride Addy beautifully - she's a challenging spooky little madam but has so much talent and you ride her sensitively and positively and do a great job. Have you considered a bitting consultation? It might just be her being argumentative but I wonder if she's not 100% happy in her mouth? Feel free to ignore me, obviously, I don't ride her and know her like you do, but just a thought.

It’s a long process developing a young horses it’s like being on a rollercoaster isn’t it?! one minute you’re up the next your down and deflated again. Your doing well, getting canter under saddle with my 4yo is still A working process xx stay focused on how far you have already come xxx

You rode through that well. I believe Addie was looking at person up near building/shed on the fence she stopped at in first round... person moves to other side on your second approach. Finally on 3 approach the person had moved out of her sight. Gearing down requires the hind end to really work/engage... believe why her disagreement comes out.. always working to build up those muscles 💪 overall Addie was good girl especially since you’ll really getting started in the season 😊

She has so much scope for a youngster and is very exuberant maybe don't try and make it all perfect, let her fiddle a few jumps in the 80 as her concentration in the 90 was better and it seemed so easy for her, you did really well xx

Here's another probably unhelpful comment. Maybe she needs work on her confidence in general. (In things, in you, and in your partnership) This is coming from another discipline entirely though so I know nothing about the eventing process. Anyway, it can be so deflating training a young horse. Hope your next adventure is on a high note 🙂

Could be as simple as she’s learning if she can evade work by spooking/arguing

Been watching for a while and I'm trying not to be unkind, but I'm not seeing any improvement with her even tho she is green. Are you too soft on her? Is she getting regular schooling 4 to 6 days a week? Regular lessons? I like to go weekly for lessons to improve. She looks tough and I think you need to start expecting more.

What a crazy thing to say if you have followed for a while! Emily has been working super hard and trains with great coaches and there has been a tremendous amount of progress with this young horse!
