It’s interesting to see you delve into “modifying” a truck. I know you are a stickler for keeping things up to factory specs using original parts. I’m sure you’ve done all kinds of modifications before and I just missed them. Good video
This will be a fun one. I'm excited to start modifying this truck. I'm a hotrodder at heart, but I like my hot rods to be so seamless that you would believe they came from the factory that way. This one for example, my end vision for it is a truck comfortable, functional, and reliable enough to be driven every day, but capable of a 9 second 1/4 mile pass and to be so cleanly done, that people could believe GM made it that way.
Great video, never seen this truck before. Question: did you use stock transmission from the 4.8 ? If not is there a difference between a 4l60 from a 4.8 and a 5.3 or 6.0. I been looking for a 2wd 4l60 and a couple I have found were from a v6 so I didn’t know if it would work in my 5.3 swap or if it had maybe fewer clutches and may be weaker or something… I’m not very knowledgeable on transmissions
Thank you! So the truck originally had a 4.3 V6, It still has the original transmission from the 4.3 V6 in it. The engine the transmission originally was attached to isn't as important as the year. To my knowledge, the 03 to 06 and 07 classic 4l60's are all the same. I'm also pretty sure the 99 to 02 4l60's are all the same. GM does use a different torque converter to match the engine, but even those aren't so vastly different that you wouldn't change the engine. as long as it's a compatible year, the 4l60 from a V6 truck will work with your 5.3.
That evap line is low pressure. sleeving it with some rubber hose and clamps or even cable ties would keep any crap from getting in there and potentially causing a problem. Great build with the L33 in the V6 single cab short bed!
Eaton truetrac if you are going to keep it. Good street slick an u will feel your chest pushing on ur spine because i know a turbo/supercharger is coming.
Yes, once the factory diff dies, which it's a G80, it'll implode eventually, I'll go TrueTrac, I;ve has several of them in the past. They work great and I never had a single issue with any of them. Can neither confirm nor deny power adder in the future ;)
Can you delete 4wd drive and trans codes with hp tuners? Im going to do this swap but my motor is coming out of a 4wd auto going into a 2wd 5 speed. Aslo going to swap the dash and everything to get power windows and locks. And steering wheel controls. But i know ill have 4wd drive lights and transmission codes. My 07c will be electrical an 04 at that point.
yes you can BUT there's only a couple 4wd drive codes, and almost all of them come from the BCM, they also are only triggered when 4wd is engaged (meaning the range indicator in the transfer case tells the bcm it's in 4 wheel drive by closing the circuit) so if you eliminate the transfer case and tranfser case range switch connector, it will just assume you are in 2wd all the time because the circuit is open. HP tuners can also change the pcm from automatic to manual transmission and that will eliminate the automatic transmission trouble codes.
