I enjoyed it, I've always loved the chill groovy melodic side of Deftones, maybe more than the heavy side tbh. That being said, I'm really looking forward to the new heavy stuff since they can't go wrong with that either.
I personally love this single and can't wait for the heavier tunes with that 9 string. Rosemary from their Koi No Yokan album is a masterpiece. It's a whole rollercoaster and I think you'll love it. It has soft and heavy but flows perfectly without feeling forced.
Not the first to recommend Rosemary so I think that'd gotta be my next once! Funny enough I checked out the album when it first came out but it didn't click for me when I was younger, I think it definitely will now
@@METALBIRB you know? That same thing happened to me. I was way younger and a hardcore Around The Fur/White Pony fan, but as my music taste evolved, KNY became one of my favorite releases and Rosemary is now in my top 3 Deftones songs. Knowing you, at least from what I've seen since I started following you, I can tell you'll love it.
I must have listened to this song 30+ times now and it gets better each time. I was underwhelmed at first but I'm absolutely loving it now.... Can't get it out of my head. Super excited for the new album.
You should react to some Crosses! It's Chino's side project he had with Sumerian Records back in 2014 and it's like Deftones without the heavy guitar. I'd suggest "The Epilogue".
I don't quite understand how you can speak about how much you love all Deftones music you've heard, but somehow haven't listened to their entire discography? This song was such a different departure for the guitar riff, but it was classic Chino. Can't wait to hear more, especially the heavier stuff. Put those 9 strings to use!
@@METALBIRB : So I take it you didn't hear the albums in real time as they were released. But, it doesn't matter when someone discovers a band. Music is timeless. You should definitely take some time and check out everything they've released.
This song sounds a bit inspired by Quicksand (the bassist Sergio's band) as well as a lot of 90's grunge. It's a lot more melodic, yet a lot less atmospheric and intense than their past material. It's a step up from Gore for sure but hoping for that classic Tones sound on the rest of the album when it drops.
Pienso que Deftones evolucionó en su música a un nuevo género musical... Del Numetal al Metal Artístico! Ya no hay gritos afónicos como antes ni tanta rudeza, pero sigue sonando con un toque de metal con arte melódico!
That song was a banger. The Deftones are one of those bands that it takes time to process what you've just heard. I'm a massive fan, and I can't tell you how many times I've been like "yeah, this is good..." only to listen to the same song or album again and think "HOLY SHIT THIS MY EARS AND BRAIN ARE ON FIRE!!!"
as a life long fan of this band I love this track. every album is different and this sounds like nothing theyve ever done. cant wait for the full album
Omg dude! around the fur is by far my favorite album by them. I highly recommend every song on that album lol. Adrenaline their first album is absolutely incredible! Songs you should feature are head up, around the fur, be quiet and drive, diamond eyes, hole in the earth, bored. I could go on and on, but that should get u started lol. Love the reaction dude as always, I think this is an awesome single from them
Was slightly underwhelmed at first but that verse riff though simple sounding has a really cool vibe I dig, and likely my fav parts of the song. Chino is on point for this one, and hoping the rest of the album catches me harder. Not bad, but not blown away. Def looking forward to it.
Absolutely love deftones, one of my all time favourites, I enjoyed the riffage but wasn't to engaged with the vocals, I hope the new album is alot better, but I do enjoy mostly anything deftones writes!
@@METALBIRB I recommend their track "hole in the earth" its off one of the lesser known albums, I personally love, its not very heavy but its a good tune
I would say Digital Bath, but since you have listened White Pony then something from more recent stuff... From last three albums I would pick for sure - Tempest, Phantom Bride and Risk. Should react on Tempest ofcourse, pretty much it is their calling card.
Think of this song as a tease for the rest of the album this is " supposedly " the last track on the album so they wanna give you soft but kinda heavy and than start releasing the heavier tracks later on. But glad you enjoyed the song and the guitar was a 9 string
Yeah the song doesn't suck, its solid for what it is, but I was just left underwhelmed overall. Doesn't strike me as a lead single worthy song especially when they haven't released anything in years. It sounds more like a song that works for the overall album, but not as a single to get people pumped and excited for a new album. I guess I prefer Deftones with a little more bite to their sound. Anyway, check out the new song from the band Tallah called "Overconfidence", now that song has some bite to it!
If you look at the tracklist on their merch site for this album, this is the closer track. Hopefully that means they meant for this song to be a mellow outro instead of a taste of what this whole album is about.
@@mck7646 Fair enough, I suppose they have a solid enough fanbase that they know they can put out whatever they want and they'll still get the plays. I respect it. I just read on The PRP that Chino said this song pretty much gives us a good scope of the album so I suppose that pretty much tells us what to expect. I'll still be checking it out none the less and I'm sure it'll be cool.
@@mickribz3963 Some have stated this, and I agree with it, that their commercial presence/marketing has been a little odd for the past few albums. I think Diamond Eyes was different in that it was their comeback record so they wanted everyone to know they were back full force, it's probably one of their more commercial releases. But nonetheless they are an album band dedicated to putting out great records, they'll have a song or two meant for radio play but they are highly regarded enough that they can make things how they want and know the fan base will be there to support. It's a good position for them to be in, they never disappoint me when it comes to whole albums.
Deftones probably the band that got me into heavier music, and favorite band overall- this was a solid lead single, nothing crazy outstanding but it did it’s job of getting me super pumped for Ohms (the album) to drop. Reaction-wise- Knife Prty (off White Pony- my favorite Deftones song), saw Rosemary mentioned, love that song, if you haven’t done Hole in the Earth, that’s another one of my favorites!
Carpenter is now with 9 strings guitars, very interesting. I'm so happy right now. Thank you for letting me know about this. Deftones are one of my favorite bands.
Gore is great, the mixing isn’t the best but it’s definitely a unique vibe & stands out in their discography. I think everyone can appreciate that they never make the same album twice
I think the song is ok. The chorus is really the main thing that I like but the rest for me is so so. I’ve said it before but the song sounds like it could be my own summer if stef wrote that song on Molly. It’s like a major scale version on guitar of my own summer in a way meaning the intro just sounds very happy to me on guitar. It is also weird that stef has a 9 string now but he didn’t utilize lower three strings. For that then it could of sounded better on a six string giving him that classic guitar tone from the first three albums which for me was his best guitar tone. Chino sounds great but I miss the more sade style, airy vocals. Some people will say he’s singing better now because he’s actually singing out notes instead of airing them out but I loved that vocal style. It’s still there but not as much. Vega is holding it down and he’s appreciated for it. Frank, definitely gives the song more texture and Abe I would say needs to either be mixed louder or has to play louder. I’m not sure which it is but I feel like he’s playing too soft and utilizing that ride a little too much. It’s also missing a little bit of groove and That snare tone isn’t doing it for me. I’ve always adored Abe’s more pop sounding snare tone which reminded me of more of a hip hop snare tone. With all that said. I respect these guys tremendously and this is just feedback, not hate at all. I will still support these guys as I have from day 1. Been a die hard fan since 94.
Diamond Eyes and Koi no Yokan are my favorite albums by them. White Pony and Around the Fur get all the shine - and they are great albums, but they overshadow some great records by them. Rosemary needs to be next. It is a wild ride, and this unoffical video perfectly encapsulates the song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gexqTxcFNiI.html
Yeah this is the closing track of the album the 9 string is a tease for the album... I've heard Genesis, Ceremony and Urantia... The quality of the leaks was awful but they sound very different then this first single they actually all are wildly different from each other
I think it's important that people keep in mind that 'Ohms' is the album closer. Everything about this release is pretty unconventional, including the structure and composition. I love it, now, but I think our perception of it will change once we hear it in the context of the entire record, and how it fits to close out the entire record. Can't wait. Happy listening, man.
Just wanna post this real quick, Could you react to “Eventide” by Wrvth? It’s their single from their 2019 release “No Rising Sun”. They’re a pretty underrated band & this is their last album, so I think u should check these guys out at least. Kind of a mix of Blackgaze metal & Metalcore, best way to describe them. Sorry if this isn’t related to Deftones, but I just wanted to get this out there.
I heard like every deftones single and didnt like the band, just weren't for me, until diamond eyes. That is a solid 10/10 album and theyve been a band I love ever since, still however can't get into the earlier stuff and sadly, everything since hasn't been as good either. This track is OK but hasn't blown me away either.
A solid song but lacking something to really mark it out. Check out Minerva, Engine no.9, street carp ... so many to choose from ... Rosemary, even their cover of Wax and Wane!! ... As an aside have a look at Chino in Crosses - Bitches brew and This is a trick would be my suggestions.
"Haven't heard all the singles like my own summer (shove it), probably heard it live though" Thumbnail at the end of the video is them reacting to that exact song.
Well back in the day they toured with them so probably, I don't know, but octave pedals aren't necessarily rare. Plus, we could always use more CKY tones. Better than anything CKY has done since their singer left.
