its funny but also kinda weird how japanese speakers tend to understand "japanese" english better than native english. Don't they use listening comprehension lessons with native speaking media in school?

@@Emulleator The problem is, they write how to spell a english word with japanese caracters, like us write how to spell japanese work using "standard" caracters. They japanese writing lacks of how to represents certain spells. Welcome to Engrisho XD

I remember a game grumps episode from years ago where Arin is explaining to Dan that while Americans consider it racist to talk in Engrish to a Japanese person, or when mocking their speech, it is legitimately the only way the average Japanese person will understand your “English.” Talking in proper English was met with great confusion then as it was here. I also remember watching on a media share (Silvervale maybe, or Projekt Melody) recommendation where a Japanese guy has to use Engrish instead of English because his Japanese interviewer thinks he sucks at it otherwise.

@@schizomaru so wouldn't it be better for english classes to be written in romanji. like a western person trying to learn japanese wouldn't try to only use the western alphabet but instead learning katakana and hiragana

I wish I could do activities like this at the schools I teach at but the Japanese teachers would never go for it lol

@@MidgarMerc yeah, really depends on the principals and the program you are in. Maybe reserve it for like a group vs group activity for an event of some sort.

You just described my situation when my group was thinking of a story to perform for our performance. I had to write the script but they could only understand like 40% and asked me to make it "easier" by taking away some lines that were hard to understand and tried telling me I made mistakes. But if I did that it would lessen the quality and cause it to be short and I'd have to find words that were more common and had similar meaning, but that is just hard and wouldn't be as impactful. And when I looked at the mistake, I saw it was fine and the what they thought was the right way of writing the sentence was the actual wrong one. They could understand the words, but not the whole sentence or how they connect with the previous line or how certain words could be used. And I had to suffer explaining it because other wise our performance would just be them reciting the script and if they were asked a question... Well we would be fucked... I'm filipino and we had to do a performance in english. Which means, we had to speak in english, and that was good for me, and for my classmates it was a massive ouch.

As a English speaker can say I don't know any Japanese except hello and good morning.

you know it really is fitting. Whenever i hear Tomoshika speak japanese, it's sometimes hard to follow her, because she speaks really fast from time to time. So hearing that from her is something special.

Japanese english prononciation usually replacing L with R, and they will add some vowel in every word that use consonant letter at the end of that word. For the example for the word lower they might say it ro-we-ru. Faith will become fai-to or length will sound leng-to

Actually Japanese recognize "er" as "aa", and "th" as "s" or "z". "lower"→"lou-waa" "faith" →"fei-su" "length"→"lengu-su"

Funny that you should say that! I was instantly reminded of the concepts of modified input after Tomoshika screamed: No Native! Japanese English please!" After this prompt Pika correctly modified her language level so Tomoshika could understand. Afterwards though you get a communication breakdown when Pika doesnt use that strategy and resorts to the tried and tested REPEAT PHRASE BUT LOUDER natives without communicative experience with non natives use :D

I never even considered how confusing a phrase such as " Up - Side - Down" must sound to a non-english speaker. Thanks for giving me some perspective! : )

@@matthewmatthew981 upside down is about as self explanatory as it gets though. you take the upside of an object, and put it down. extremely simple.

@@bobthebuilder609 Not if you don't know the grammar rules by say, not speaking English as your first language. You have an up (signifies a direction), a down (signifies a direction), and a side (also signifies a direction). God have mercy on anyone trying to parse out which means what in that phrase.

Yeah... i feel ya ;( To me it was GYARI's models, oddly enough, they fit her like a glove. I honestly wasn't a huge fan of that model she had before she graduated, though I didn't hate it either. Her bouncing off TMSK was awesome too. Henya is fun, don't get me wrong but I feel you. It really is different. I went from a Pikamee stream dweller to an occasional Henya clip watcher. I'm fully in support of her move if it was better for her of course but when I see clips like this I miss the old days.
