Willemijn Verkaik , Jackie Hughes, Kerry Ellis, Nikki Davis Jones, Emma Hatton, Alice Fearn, Laura Pick, Louise Dearmen and Rachel Tucker were my FAVORITES!!! seriously nothing beats Willemijns riff, Laura’s riff (that she probably copied from Willemijn) and Rachel’s slight growl. I don’t care if people negatively criticize any elphaba actress, they are amazing in their own way. especially Rachel
Great collection, and from the different collections I've seen online the UK singers did better than the US ones. Wilemijn is still my favorite of all of them. She just has that extra piece above the others, but so many of them are extremely talented
I was a huge fan of wicked when it first opened for the first 5-8 years so it is like a trip down memory lane! Loved this. Nikki Davis Jones was a real favourite of mine.
Why is nobody talking about Gemma Atkins? She has one of the best techniques and the note sounds so healthy with zero amount of reaching or straining. And even though everybody seems to LOVE riffing the original score to death I think sustaining the pitch at F5 is infinitely harder, and Gemma did just that.
Michael Simpson I'll just go ahead and say I dislike her elphaba and can't bear to listen to her singing because she strains horrendously. That's my opinion sorry. I'm sure there'll be some more videos with her in it, but not in mine
Lydia Alice That's ok. You don't have to apologise for your opinion, everyone is entitled to that. However I do think if you are doing a comparison video of UK Elphabas it's only fair that you do include them all, regardless of your personal feelings on some. Especially the original one. After all, she did help create Elphaba and most of what we see/hear today was written for Idina and her voice, so she does deserve at least some credit
Michael Simpson well, to be honest I only really see as as Broadway whether or not she was in the UK production. That and my original opinion. Nothing against your opinion though I just don't like the way she chooses to belt its unhealthy.
Lydia Alice but Jenny DiNoia did Broadway first too. I will agree Idina is quite inconsistant and her voice is not to everyone's taste. However when she was on, she was on fire. Can I ask did you see her live?
Sarah Louise I love Stephanie and I'm well aware she was brought in during the workshops - I've been a Wicked fan since 2003 and have seen many Elphabas. Idina still ended up being cast in the original cast. Your point? Idina was involved in the creation of the role and a lot of her acting and singing choices are still used in the show today so I think she deserves a little bit more respect even if you're not a fan of her voice. I know her voice is damaged and if you read what I wrote earlier I agreed that she was inconsistant. This is a public page and I can post my opinion here if I want. I wasn't even talking to you, I was talking to Lydia and while we may not agree on everything at least we can talk to each other with respect. You seem very immature and rude.
I struggled to voice my opinion is all. Idina is an amazing actress, I fully agree. But I stand by that I think she is by far the worst elphaba vocally due to her lack of proper singing technique. That's why I didn't want her in this video. I understand she did originate the role, but many things have changed since then. ALICE FEARN ROCKS!!!!!!! Idina, best actress? Yes. Best at singing? HELL NO!!!!
I think there are better interpretations of the role than idina’s but i do think the premise that her acting was great and her voice just wasn’t it is logical
