Just a note. Last year I dehydrated some canned #10 plums. I ended up with 3/4 gallon of juice, my husband used it to make wine. All I can say is wow it is delicious. Just another idea for all the juices from canned fruits!.
Absolutely any juice. I have also chopped and froze cilantro inI cube trays, pop out and bag. I also froze eggs this yr. But having a blast dehydrating this yr because we should be prepared
I just saved 4 bunches of bananas that were to be tossed after Thanksgiving because my neighbor didn't want them. :) I am going to surprise her with a nice batch of dehydrated bananas when they are ready. :)
I have done this several times since first watching this video. Perfect every time. Nice for a snack. I just put some in my hot tea - fabulous! It plumps them and puts great peach flavor in my tea. (then I eat the rehydrated peaches.)
I am very new to dehydrating and the first two things I made was apple rings and fresh pineapple. Needless to say I think my dehydrator is going to be working overtime. Xx
Hi Linda, I just tried dehydrating the peaches like you show in the video. OMG they are awesome like you I rinsed the peaches off. 1 can same size of yours did a pint & half jar. :) So Good. Thank you again & I agree it is a lot cheaper & easier doing it this way then from fresh. If I got fresh for free I would do it that way. Yet around here they cost a lot... :) Thanks again.,
Hello Linda! I've been watching your videos for a long time and I just wanted to say thank you for putting a positive and easy going spin to prepping. I love that! Please keep them coming :-)
hey linda, use by dates just means you'll still have firm peaches, you can keep them at least 5 years beyond that in the can, but not tomatoes in a can, that 2 years past that date is pushing it, but we also dehydrate etc.
Looks good! NEVER go by the expiration date on cans unless it is a tomato product. I have one pantry that is full of cans that are five, ten and fifteen years old and eat them all the time. If the can is not rusting, dented or bulging the food is fine. Sure after ten years you might only get nine% if the vitamins instead of ten% but the food is fine. In 2010 a friend and I ate some packaged taco meat that expired in 1992. It was great!!!!!!
I have an Excalibur dehydrator. It’s a 9 tray. I’ve had it for a good 29 years & it still works as well as when it was new. I use it year round, as well as letting friends & family use it for their abundance. It was worth every penny of the purchase price.
Hi Linda, how long will these and other fruits last in jars after you remove all the air? I have been trying to look for it and nothing is coming up for me. Then Voila, I found you :) TY, and those look amazing! I have some in my dehydrator now with Strawberries and bananas too :)
Hi Linda, I want to let you know that you inspired me to buy a dehydrator and I used it to dehydrate my first batch of bananas, pears, and apples. Took about 2 days and I have come down to the kitchen to take them out. Sadly very few of them will make it into the storage jar. I have a sweet tooth and I am supposed to cut back on my sugar intake.....'hey presto!!' They are so more-ish! Thanks for sharing although I am from the other side of the pond so a lot of your terminology sort or puzzle me. Still I love site!!!😊
Thanks for the idea, Linda; Rick and I can only eat so many canned cherries, and I want to get my 1 litre jars back; this'll be a perfect thing to do in my solar oven.
I binge watched many of your dehydrating videos YEARS ago, when I didn't have a dehydrator. Life happened, but I just finally got one. I'm excited to have found your channel again, now that I can put your practical advice to use. I love the idea of using canned peaches. It saves time in that you don't have to pre-process the fruit as you would from fresh. It doesn't have to be fresh every single time! I too, will be rinsing the syrup. Oh! And this time, I subscribed so I don't lose you again. Thanks for all of your dehydrator-related content!
I really appreciate you rehydrating items in the video! Great videos new subscriber :-) I'm about to purchase a dehydrator so I'm searching here for the best 1 & ideas
If storing for a long time, it’s best to also use a sterile gloved hand to pack the dried peaches.... even washed hands often have microscopic bacteria and moisture leading to contamination. Great idea though. Love the video. I use these dried peaches/apricots and white grapes to make chutney (the Mrs Balls recipe).
I have some extra lemons, limes and oranges from when I made my extracts and marmalade last night. I will try my hand at dehydrating some slices for husband favorite lemon-lime aide! Tx for teaching us all. Keep up the great job! I love this woman!! LOL>>
My original Excalibur dehydrates are 35 years old and still work perfectly.I gave one to each of my adult sons and I bought two nine tray Excalibur s! You can't go wrong with them!
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of your wonderful videos - I just can't get enough and they are so incredibly helpful - and I share you on my FB page all the time. Hugs and keep up the great work!
Hi Linda, Have you ever dehydrated your canned veggies? I have a bunch that is about to go out of date and wondered if I can dehydrate them. Sure appreciate your opinion! Thanks much
I also have and use this same dehydrator. I recently purchased the Excalibur along with some Para Flex sheets. I have to say, other than the trays being square, I had just as soon have/use my Nesco! When using the Excalibur, for me it takes longer drying time. Maybe Im doing something wrong??? My Nesco does just as good, if not more so than the Excalibur! I used both during gardening season this year. If I ever have to purchase another dehydrator, it will be a Nesco! Just my own opinion tho!
Carol Anne I am still using both my Nesco and Excalibur for this season. Both are very good dehydrators....but I dont like having to purchase the teflex sheets all the time for the Excalibur. I tried just using parchment paper, and it works ok, but not like the teflex sheets for it does. So basically when Im dehydrating fruit leathers I use the Nesco that came with the trays.
YES ... Finally found what I've been looking for!!! After dehydrating for the first time, I was hooked and now have four 9 tray dehydrators! I take advantage of sales in both fresh and store bought cans. I'm going to see how they re-hydrate in the saved juice LOVE dehydrating!! New subscriber,
I had seen this video, and one day we went to Costco and they had a huge stash of the #10 cans of peaches, so we grabbed one. Fired up the old Ronco dehydrator I got for $5 at a garage sale, and bingo, dried peaches. Girl, they were GONE in a matter of days. So much for LONG TERM food storage! The guys loved 'em. If you keep this up, people will look forward to SHTF!!
Lol 😜 same thing here kids are like mom how about u give us that Monopoly money so when we finish our chores and we get paid we can go in to your shtf stash and we us some goodies 😉am like waaatha🤯no need for outside scavenger here 😅
Girl, you are a really good food photographer. Whatever you do for a living, you missed your calling unless your getting paid to take pictures! Great video.
FYI The sell by/best buy on cans can almost be ignored. I SAID ALMOST! If you are opening up a year old can of chili you won't notice a difference. What about tuna fish that is nearly 3 years past its use by date? It'll be just fine. They are called non-perishables for a reason. Over the past 2 months I have eaten 12 cans of EXPIRED TUNA!!! DUIN DUN DUNNNNN! It died back in 2018. I'm actually a cook as well. With that being said please don't EVER serve anybody expired foods. That's just rude.
Love your videos but never throw the juice out as there are so many things you can do with it. As one commenter said it makes GREAT jelly, it is also fabulous in smoothies, freeze into ice cubes and add to drinks like lemonade for a flavour booster to die for, or use in place of water in a heap of dessert dishes. :)
Me too! I also keep apple and pear cores in the freezer until I want to make say, a pork roast in the slow cooker/oven. Rather than use a rack, I set the roast on a bed of frozen fruit cores. Keep the roast out of the grease and as the roast cooks, it absorbs some of the sweet flavor. I use the peach, pear, pineapple juice I froze into cubes on top if it is something I want a glaze or sweetness on the top such as a ham. Natural sweetness and flavor vs. a ton of sugars as in most glazes.
I'm sorry, but those peaches are NOT in any way HEALTHY. Why go to the effort to preserve High Fructose Corn Syrup? Some ppl think their doing the right thing but are absolutely not awake to what REAL food actually is. Awareness, love and blessings.
Woodsman: Yes, I vacuum packed some plums that I had dehydrated going on 2 years ago, they are perfectly fine and just as tasty as the day I vac packed them..
I love dehydrated fruit. My all time favorite is apricot! My dehydrator stopped working, but when it did, I used to make fruit leather. Love that stuff! Thanks for sharing Linda!
I just say buy a new one watch Facebook market place, I scored a top of the line Excalibur that works wonderfully for 20$ and I know they didn’t pay that for it
As a peach lover, I can tell you that video made my mouth water. I'm still learning and doing dry canning right now but I'm probably going to do a dehydrator next on my way up. to pressure canning. My food saver comes tomorrow and I can finish some dry canning that I have done. After looking up the Excalibre, I see that it's out of my league (and price). So, a nice Nesco $57 on Amazon is affordable. Thank You so much for the video and education. Hot Water Bath canning will have to wait.
Cant you use a normal owen? If yes 1) Where in the owen shall they where 2) At what temperature in celsius 3) for how long time shall they where in the owen if you have a dry air owen program how change it the tree question above ? Please answer 🌸🙏🏼🌸🤲🏼💗💕💕💕💕💕💕
If your looking up the "Morman" store. Lookup LDS CHURCH. Which stands for "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint". Not all of the churches have a food storage center. Thank you..
I made my own with natural paper loose tea bags and cilica nothing added kitty litter. Works great. Still waitng now over 3 mos for my pressure caps. I dont think I will get them this yr. Have 3 ordered at 3 diff places.
You got me laughing when you mentioned your husband. Don't we all have to hide some of the goods from our hubbies, or it would all be gone before we can cook with it?! haha! Guess I'll have to get some #10 cans of peaches and start dehydrating! Thanks so much!
I can my fruit with just a tsp of sugar in bottom of jar add fruit then water. I want the taste of fruit only. Never been disappointed. Been doing for 45 yrs.
I will have you know I thought about you and your food storage for my entire 45 minute walk with the dog tonight. I am going to start doing some of these things in baby steps... xoxo!
Oh, how I wish Waffle House would sell me their hash browns for dehydrating. I asked just this morning to buy a couple of cartons, and she told me they are not allowed to sell them bulk like that. Woe is me! ;-)
How long will they last like this? And if you use an oxygen absorber how long will they last? And do you think 100 cc absorber would be enough for the half-gallon jar?
Wash ur lids before opening. Worked in a warehouse, lots of mice and rats tend to urinate and deaficate over the cans and boxes. Leaves bacteria etc that u can't see. A quick vinegar wash works....just saying.
I’m getting ready to do some canned peaches soon. After they are dehydrated, do you store them on a shelf, or in the refrigerator? Also, approx. how many hours did they take? TY 💕🌸💕
A couple years ago I dehydrated canned peaches just like did and sealed them in a mason jar. I noticed yesterday that they are really dark, but still smell good and I don't see any mold or anything. Are they still ok?
Been dehydrating for many many years. It's amazing what you can save in size and weight by dehydrating. Farmers markets can be a boon too! PS Love the channel (hubbies channel is pretty good too)! LOL
Thank you! Just got a dehydrator. Apples.went great next canned pineapple then frozen cherries. Your instruction is clear and encouraging you are a natural teacher!!
This isn't about canned peaches, but I do have two large cans of tomatoes and three large cans of beets that I would like to dehydrate... however one person said that dehydrating tomatoes and beets from cans would not have a good outcome. I would like your opinion on this. Thank you
Thanks Ms. Linda for the class lol. I learn a lot from you. Your such an inspiration. We wasted so much food through the years. I think of all the money we can save now. Thank you!!!
I have the 9 tray Excaliber I bought from Amazon a few years ago for around $250 and it seems like the fruit leathers I've made are really good without flipping them over.
I have the 9 tray Excalibur and I love it! Have some cases of veggies to dehydrate as like you, I buy them and if we have not eaten them by the 'best by date', I dehydrate them for long term storage.
I bought a Cabela dehydrator. It lasted a year 😥 it died last week in the middle of doing 18 tomatoes. Ugh. I ran to Canadian tire and they had one escalaber left for me. Phew!
I can't wait to start dehydrating in my ninja foodi max. I'll seal them with my food saver rather than canning them. Would that be alright to do?. I know that more than likely people won't respond to me , & that's fine with me.
t the edibility of canned goods determining that the dates are at least somewhat arbitrary, since a can of something-or-other that was over 100 years old was determined to be just fine, although a bit less than at its peak as far as flavor. Of course, it's necessary to smell, and otherwise examine the contents and can before tasting, discarding if any doubts arise.
Don't forget to boil the contents for 15 minutes in case botulism toxin is inside it!!! (Adjust time for altitude 1 extra min for every 1000ft up I think) You can't see or smell botulism!
i love my nesco dehydrator. we do the same thing with older cans of veggies and i make canned dried soups with them as well, just open the cans and add water, great on cold nights when you dont wanna cook alot
Why in the world would you ever dehydrate anything canned once the peaches have been canned all they are is fiber all the vitamins and minerals are cooked out then you dehydrate them why hell you may as well dehydrated cardboard
i LOVE this! I bought a #10 can of peaches tonight, along with a can of mandarin oranges and a can of pears. LOL i dont know what i will end up with, but i know the peaches now will work. hahahaha
You have totally inspired me to "think outside the box". I ordered a Nesco dehydrator a few days ago and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. First thing I am going to try is peaches. Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos, they truly are a huge help to newbies like me. :)
Diversify or die should be the mission statement of every company! If they were a forward thinking company “Beef Tallow dipped Kale Chip and Quinoa Breakfast Bars” would be manufactured right next to the peaches. This is the surest way to get the hipster anti gun crowd to love your company instead of demanding you shut their doors!
