Fear is not only an ancestral emotion, embodied by nightmare, fright or anxiety.
The children of Aphrodite and Ares hold their victims captive of a torment, that of fear before the battle, for Deimos and at the heart of the battle for Phobos, playing a preponderant role in the glorious and tragic hours of the Hellenic wars by their power over men.
I try here to draw their ambiguous features with my own notions of fear, terror and what they represent.
The phases of fear embodied by Phobos, God and embodiment of panic fear, and his brother Deimos, God and embodiment of terror, show all the subtlety of the ancient Greek culture which brings together in a sibling the two sides of the same coin terror and its crucible which will later give its name to phobia, a true psychological study before its time of an emotion that can become a disorder.
I have represented the two brothers as a single warrior with morbid appearances, but will you be able to detect the particularity of the armor of fear?
Deimos and Phobos will be found in the cosmos as the two moons of Mars, which adds an even more immense metaphorical power to these ancient Gods.
