the biggest thing that has helped my lips not be chapped 24/7 is just applying my hydrating toner to my lips and then top it with a lip balm. My problem was lack of hydration, not needing a heavier occlusive.

I am determined to whittle down my supply before I order more. I have been cycling thru my hair care products lately.

I have layered lip products for ages, as I am 79, with VERY dry lips. I first use a light Neutrogena, a honey 🐝 balm that my son-the-beekeeper makes, which is very nourishing, and thicker, then top it off with Vaseline. You would think it would stay on all night, but noooo. Still wake up most days with dry lips. I found that the ( expensive) Laneige stays on even less time! I think perhaps I move around too much in the night! 🤷🏼 I tell you this every time, but I love you so much! You are so sweet😊! Have a wonderful weekend! 🧚🏻‍♂️ 🌴 🌊

Yes, the using too much skincare issue. I believe Dr Dray did a video on this (how much cleanser, serum, moisturizer, eye cream, sunscreen, etc). As for the lip layering, it does seem like it would be obvious especially to help use up stuff that isn't bad but just may not be working alone. Cute hat.

It’s always eye opening when they throw a few freebie samples in my bag here in Korea. They always seems soooo tiny. It’s the actual serving!!!!😂

For the algorithm :-) But also: have definitely been guilty of putting 1 to many pumps or 1 extra pippette full of so many serums...saved so much just getting myself to accept that sometimes more isn't better, its just more.

I was sitting on a ton of lip gloss from an old job and now I use them as my nighttime lip balm/mask. It does the same thing and I'm finally using them up!

YES! I can also attest that changing how you use a product can really be game changing! I have this benzoyl peroxide product that works well for me (Neutrogena’s Stubborn Acne 2.5% Micronized Benzoyl Peroxide if anyone is curious) but I always had to be careful with it because there was a fine line between treating my acne and irritating my skin. Recently I began using it in a different way and it’s been amazing! I’ve been doing short contact therapy with it (apply and leave it on for about 15 minutes, then cleanse it off) and now I can use it more often with no irritation.

The layering lip products tip is so good! When matte lipsticks were the trend I ended up with a few where I loved the color but eventually found I hated how dry they felt and intense the color looked (just didn’t suit me). I found that if I put on a layer of balm first and then the lipstick over, it sheered out the color and made it way more comfortable to wear. If you love tinted balm, and have a lot of old lipsticks you never wear, you actually have a ton of potential tinted balm looks.

I feel personally targeted by this video. I'm in the middle of essentially restarting my life and need to do a better job with my budget as part of that. But I see so many things I want and Ulta keeps having good sales or points multipliers, the k-beauty retailers always have such great deals and overall I'm in a mental place of really wanting the dopamine from buying myself something (you know - "treat yo'self to some neurotransmitters). The rule I'm currently operating under is that before I can buy something new, I need to clean and organize the drawer/cabinet/etc. where I store that category of product. I also have to count how many products of that category I already have (if I have nine moisturizers I love already in process of use, do I really need another?) and figure out exactly where I would keep the new product and how long it would take to use it and the other similar products. I've been doing this for a month and the only thing I've purchased was replacement deodorant. I still love skincare and beauty and want to try new things, but this is helping me with the stage of life I'm in, and I hope I'm training myself to think more critically about purchases so I can really spend my money on things that are worth it and that I'll use. (But I'm the meantime I also have a note on my phone where I'm keeping a list of all the products I want to try so that when things straighten out, I can see how many I'm still interested in and if I have space for them then.)

Nice video! I am trying to cut down on my spending so this is a mindset I kinda have to remind myself of. I have plenty of some products at the moment, and when I kinda get the idea of getting something new i remind myself that I can do that later once I have finished some things up..!

I’ve found when I go through an item I love and don’t restock right away it gives my mind a chance to decide I like the other and try different ways of using it, or to realize I don’t and to pass it on after thanking it for the good it gave me.

I am now checking my drawer of purchases before automatically buying a replacement or getting a new shiny advertised one. My sunscreen is on its last squeeze but I'll try the other brand in the drawer before just getting another cos I like it. There's some products that will always have to be on hand like Mary & May essence but others can be changed out.

Why am I not surprised that it's you who makes the first genuine de-influencing video I've seen! Amazing. I've def pared back on what I buy and use over the past few years, but I'm also fortunate in having skin that behaves. I've learnt what type of products work well for me, but of course still have things I want to try! (when I've finished my current product of a certain type). Next on my list is a Mary & May serum and either Axis Y eye serum or something else. I still experiment more with makeup, thats fun and I'm certainly guilty of the forever quest for the perfect base product!!

Being semi-new to being a skincare enthusiast (almost a year), but being a bit older, I have two thoughts: 1) first, who we are talking to, or being mindful that we gotta say who we're talking to while being mindful others exist. Love James Welsh, but he tends to assume his audience are all people who have been with him forever, been skincare enthusiasts forever, and in the online skincare community forever. "We all know..." is a common starter, and that's never gonna be true, especially online. You can't have a deinfluencing conversation without saying who you think needs that deinfluencing---maybe newbies with that newbie over-enthusiasm, maybe its shopping addicts currently focusing their addiction at skincare--or maybe its youngins who are trying to fit in and going overboard as we are wont to do when young. 2) as with everything skincare, what skin types and with what issues are we talking about? Someone with normal, balanced skin and no issues to target is a much more appropriate audience for the 'you only need cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen' line. That's not gonna fly with nor resonate with people with oily, over dry, and/or acne prone skin. 'Ugh, just use Cerave/The Ordinary' isn't going to resonate with people who are only able to be consistent because their products give them a pleasant, self-care type experience.

I totally agree with the new techniques tip. I used to do the 7 layer (7 skin) method but it wasn’t hydrating my skin as much as I liked. I switched to using the same toner with a compressed sheet mask and it works so much better since there’s more contact time (2-3 minutes) on my skin. Love your hat! ❤

You are so right on so many levels, A year ago my morning skincare was Vit C, moisturizer and sunscreen.and evening care was tretinoin and moisturizer. Enter K beauty and Alice - between temptation and curiosity that list has grown so much in spite of trying to control myself. You got me curious about medi-peel and I spent a weekend looking up medi-peel and derma maison. That was a real rabbit hole, belive me. I ended up ordering $134 of products and that was just half the list that I had to whittle down !! Ordered 3 different eye creams out of the 5 I had short listed. Yet, I have a good feeling about this ( as someone said in Las Vegas) and it may refine my final routine.

This video came at good time. I started my skincare journey last year and finally stuck to it. I ended up buying so many toners and serums. Now i'm trying to use them all before they expire. But thisbhelped menfind what i like in texture. Im trying to resist to get more. I also want to use less steps in my routine. Love your videos! As always you're so helpful!

I took your advice about using products for an extended period to see what they can really do. I was giving up too quickly. As long as it doesn’t cause stinging or burning I use it until the product is empty. That helps keep me from overbuying. It took time for it to work, but applying multiple layers (at least 3) of a hydrating toner morning and night has worked wonders for my skin. I kept searching for a single moisturizer that would provide enough moisture and barrier for my skin. I still haven’t found one, but I discovered along the way that I have a dehydration issue with my skin. As that improves, I find that I need less moisturizer. I also do Seven Skin once a week. I’m going to try a DIY mask next week to see if that makes a difference. It seems like a great way to use toners that I wasn’t impressed by but had repurchased.

I don’t have specifically the experiment mask that you spoke about but I use a random one from Amazon over my sheet masks to hold them on my face but also lock in the essence from the sheet mask

I slap on the toners after using a cotton pad with the bifida manyo toner that I find cleanses my morning skin then follow with a peptide tone numbuz in3 a Galactomyces toner and my favourite Japanese one . My skin is so juicy after that . Then I follow with ampules and then cream and sunscreen The multiple toner method is sooo game changing . I love or . After a few ampules/ actives all I need is a bit of a moisturizer and sunscreen I have super dry skin so o can honestly say the multiple tone/essence makes a big difference. Plus I like I’m getting the fermented ingredients into my skin Thanks for yet another entertaining video ( I wish they were longer 😜)

I layer my lip products! I use a hyaluronic lip balm, then I trap all the goodness with an occlusive. I do the same with peptide lip products too. It works! I've recently been using Freezeframe lip injection and I top it with either vaseline or Tatcha kissu lip mask. The Freezeframe is packed with hyaluronic acid and really does plump your lips in the long run to have an actual lasting effect! Also, I'm terrible when it comes to purchasing 'the one that will change my skin'...I've recently started getting acne and have been on the hunt for that life changing product! Only to find that they all pretty much contain similar ingredients! I've been a little too impatient and as you said, I need to be patient and try out one product consistently rather than use it for a week and decide on some other revolutionary product because I'm not seeing change quick enough for my liking! Idk if y’all were part of the music scene when you lived there…but if so, you would’ve met her at some point. Her name was Jenn Hutter. I kind of focused that time on her and just kept using my tried and true k-beauty along with my tretinoin combo I order online. It’s funny to see the “de influencing” title since I’ve not been experimenting with new products. I’m still interested, especially in a serum, as I’m finishing the last of my matrixyl the ordinary serum. Hope you’re doing well!

I'm on a different page. I finally decided to just give away products that I haven't liked and don't find joy using instead of it taking up space... so that I can fill my drawer with things I might like better. 😂 Definitely trying to use up what I have faster too except the strong actives. Not to mention, products arrive 2-4 weeks later anyway. 😅

I Am kind of use what you have for toners and essences. Then decide which I just can't live without ie Haruharu wonder toner, and replace . I am sure I have some slight redundancies ,so I need to pick one leave out the other. Hmmmm ... layering my lip 💋products, like I layer my skincare, never have I ever thought of doing that, thank you for the tip. I am quite guilty of using too much product, especially with cleansers and night cream (I layer that on very thick). I love using face masks - but I don't use compressed sheet masks, but I do have eye masks (dry sheets and use my own serum). I have a real weakness for eye masks (simply because they feel so good). So sorry, but I could never deinfluence anyone about skin care. I use skin care and body products for more than just the benefits, because my skin has never looked or felt so good as it does now. Hi Alice, I think that by constantly changing your routine you cannot see any benefit from the products, because consistency is the best way to see long-term results and we are constantly so bombarded with new products that I think it is easy to fall into buying a different one each time, I think the smartest thing we can do is finish the products that you already have instead of having many products open and they end up expiring before you use them. And another thing I wanted to mention is that, for example, if you buy a cream that is very light for your skin type, it is smarter to use it for your eyes and experiment with how to get the most out of what you buy instead of leaving them forgotten and they eventually expire. . Made a spreadsheet of all owned products and ingredients (from INCI) and looked for what was important, therefore to repurchase or not. Would love your thoughts on what actives you think should be included for well aging. It would be interesting to go through INCI and pick products that have the most overlap of important ingredients. Then you would not buy more products but a grouping of the fewest products that do the most . For example, what 4 products, toner, essence, serum and lotion, would have all the collagen boosters, peptides, antioxidants and moisturizers? Curious to know what you would recommend.

The best product I ever found for acne was the now discontinued with no explanation was the old Clearasil with sulfur and resorcinol

Ive been on a low buy so have not bought skincare in a while, I am trying to save to buy property and get a mortgage, so had to cut back on skincare and other discretionary spending. Im one of those people who does not get acne. Ive never had since i was 13, which was 2 decades ago

I cut off a lot of my skincare products due to pregnancy. Either its not safe to use (retinal, etc) or somehow I can't stand the smell of the products (weird pregnancy hormon 😢). My skincare is now down to salicylic cleanser, toner, face oil and SPF. No serum. I notice I'm more peaceful when doing my skincare because I don't have to choose which toner/serum/SPF to use since now I only have one product of each category. And my skin I kid you not, is way better than when I use 7/8 products for morning and night regime. It's open my mind that I don't need a product for every skin issue that I have, maybe it's true that consistency is the key 😊

It might seem boring or like an “old wives tale” but no skincare product has ever made my skin look as good as it did when I cut out fast food from my diet and ate only fruits and veggies for a month. I didn’t want to believe, but I fully preach this to everyone now. Skincare is fantastic but it can only do much.

I ordered from Yesstyle for the first time recently. Is it suppose to take 10 years to be delivered? Ulta was much faster! I love all the Korean skincare they have, but I hate the long long wait.

The acne part felt personal 😂 what if this is the one product. The one I have been looking for. 😂 Yup!!! Soon to be 36. Using adapalne and also 4-terpineol. I had a few flawless skin months, but the breakouts are coming back. Always the problem during warmer summer months. More sunscreen replying more clogged pores. 🥲🥲
