I love this. My teachers always taught me to understand whom I shot marbles with and whom I did not. Meaning I was taught to respect my elders. In this case, Mr. Sanders is teaching 115 young men to understand their crafts. If done right, all 115 men can take part of this training and eat for the rest of their lives. In addition, he is bringing attention to HBCU excellence. As a person that went to a prestigeous HBCU, this commands respect. So for a member of our community to be disrespected, I totally agree with Mr. Sanders decision to end the interview.
This man has gained my utmost respect. I’ve never seen a Coach who truly has a heart for every player. Telling them about the real ness of going pro. I hope he takes each of them where they want to go.

Journalistic integrity demands that the reporter call Deion by his first name. One of the first things they teach you as a journalist is that you never call a coach "Coach", because you are both professionals doing a job. Deion disrespected the reporter, plain and simple.

But I have actually been to a lot of press conferences in the sport and also having to write articles from tape press conferences. I can tell you absolute truth that in these press situation coaches are referred to coach and by their first name. You may not understand but Coach Sanders is new to this so he’s probably not used to it. The coaches see the same people in the press settings and they tend to call them by their first name and some of the reporters and writers will call them by their first name but some to address them as coach. These are grown people not his players. You may be a fan of Deion sanders but you need to start watching a lot of press conferences. I’ve actually heard him on TV addressing coaches by their first name so go figure. What I was also trying to say was everyone knows him is Deion sanders he hast to give it a minute and most people will get used to calling him coach. Coach learned quick!. My mom was a Black reporter in Jackson before passing, critical of THAT newspaper & many of the reporters. Even so, they respected her as one of the best, sought after as a mentor & goto for new graduate internships. Coach has done his homework on local media, Yaasss!
The only HBCU sports RU-vid channel that is worth watching. No drama, no made up headlines, no clickbait like you get from other HBCU sports channels. Respect is due.
We address doctors by saying "Doctor", nurses by saying "Nurse", professors in college by saying "Professor", police officers by saying "Officer", even grammar school teachers get a "Mr." or "Mrs/Ms". Is it too much for a "sports reporter" to address a coach who is his elder by first saying "Coach"? Sure it's not the end of the world and won't affect whether we eat or not, but I just thought this was clearly disrespectful on the part of the reporter.

Actually, this is a poor example of professional journalism. Tolly Carr let his friendship with Deion Sanders get in the way of actual journalism. One Saturday morning he came to Wal mart, I was standing out in front of the store talking to a Co worker, as he was about to enter the store, I asked for his autograph. He said, sure, give me a second, as soon as I come back out the store I will give it to you. As soon as he came back out he came over to me and gave it to me. He was very nice and down to earth. Stephen Holder, for example, is Black and covers the Colts for the Athletic. He regularly interviews white coaches, such as Bill Belichick and Frank Reich, and he calls them by their first names every time and has never had an issue. Deion's claim that a Black reporter wouldn't have a job the next day if they called a white coach by their first name is one of the most idiotic things any coach has ever said, and he should frankly be ashamed of himself for such a stupid comment.

Coach Sanders occupies the organizational position as Head Coach within an institution. By definition he holds the title and responsibility of Coach, so he should be addressed as such.
As an Alabama fan, Coach Sanders is right . No one calls Coach Saban “Nick”, most people call him Saban or Coach. While I understand that Mr. Sanders may have been addressed differently in the past, the reporter should have acknowledged his mistake when he was corrected.
Actually, most reporters call Nick Saban "Nick", and if you had watched Alabama's SEC media day, you would know that, because the video shows the majority of reporters calling him Nick. Not only that, but Nick Saban even confirmed he has absolutely no problem with being called Nick. Deion should have acknowledged his mistake when the reporter corrected him.

He also stated that Mr. Sanders has a right to be addressed as Coach Sanders. Furthermore, Saban’s criticism towards the press is notorious (i.e., rat poison, **it through a tin horn, wayward fans, etc.). Look at the videos and look at the comments. No apologies were required. He’s a coach and wants to be addressed as Coach Sanders. While I initially understood your point of view. Your second comment is a bit condescending. I couldn't have cared less about Deion before this, and the reason I care is because actions like his make it harder for journalists to do their job.
