@@Levi_Allen I do! It's SUPER old though.. and not a great video, you'll see why lol. I've since distilled this process a bit, removing the last normalize and hard limiters, and now use "match loudness" in audition at -16 LUFs in place of those steps... and I've attached the whole process to a hotkey, so it's all EQ'd in about five seconds. Thank you - but I must confess, there's actually TONS of jump cuts, I hide behind B-roll constantly, haha. I try to cut out any unnecessary pauses or useless info when I can.

@@TommyCallaway Yes there are jump cuts for sure but no where near as many as the others online. Years ago the jump cuts meant that you hadn't put in the cutaways or b roll so you knew what had to be covered. Then it became in fashion and was called "edgy" Now it's how people edit freakin everything. No effort.. It's pretty common to cut content then cover but people don't even cover now and its practically ever sentence. I have even seen flash frames ... Fortunately you're stuff is not like that. And no massive arm waving action. As for the mic... I have the larger brother and it performs fairly well although I do prefer the sound off the rodes in general. An NTG3 is quite nice but pricey relatively speaking. It is pretty hard to beat the RODE customer service as far as I am concerned. They've been pretty good to me so no complaints. The issue with these cheaper mics is you simply don't know how long the capsules will last... if they dry out or crack . That does take years to track the reliability especially with mics. I don't know any pros who use the deity stuff even though it seems they are well built. I've only had the S mic 2 for a few months and I find it works fine especially if you do some post processing. Of course it is not for on camera so for interviews you do need to pole it or have a sound guy.

Gotcha, thank you. I’m looking forward to playing with the big one! I think the pros aren’t using them as much simply because they are a relatively new company, spawned off of Aputure. But if Deity keeps on the path of doing for sound as to what Aputure has done for lighting, I think it’s going to be a solid piece of equipment.

Here's a video I did over two years ago on processing sound in audition ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gBCmCOYqEps.html - my process is basically still the same, but instead of the last two steps of normalize / hardness limiting as shown in that video, I use the "Match Loudness" setting in audition there set to -16 LUFS. I usually keep my GH5 at -12db

When using the location kit, you have the mic mounted to the pistol grip. You can then hand hold it, or attach the pistol grip to a boom pole. In either case, since the mic is further from the camera you would need a longer lead to attach to the camera, or to a recorder. XLR cables are low noise (some better quality than others, but beyond the point of this discussion), and also have shielding to prevent RF interference. A 'typical' 3.5mm extension cable doesn't have shielding, but some do. Bottom line: If you don't want to use the XLR adapter, be sure to use an extension cable with shielding. Rode sells one. This way, whether you use XLR or the 3.5mm plug, you know you won't introduce any added interference or noise to your recording. Hope that helps.

Take a look at the Deity S-Mic 2 if you have something that provides phantom power (like the zoom h6 or mixpre 3). It's basically the same sound you get from the Senn MKH 416, which is a $1000 mic. I have a review coming on it in the next couple weeks.

Hi The Oddest Thing. More than likely is that your audio gain record settings in your camera are set high. Cameras generally have terrible pre-amps. Turn down the the audio gain record setting in the camera and bump up the gain on the mic.

You have to turn it on first. Hold the button down.
