This biographical documentary follows the story of my great aunt, Emma Eivers, who was 11 years old when she was stricken with polio in 1956. She became partially paralyzed, unable to breathe or swallow, and was told she would die at a very young age. However, at 79 years old, she has managed to accomplish the impossible. Learn about the indomitable human spirit and Emma’s story of survival in just 35 minutes.
I believe this was an important story to tell due to the determination and perseverance of my great aunt and all of the people who fought to keep her alive. Emma has lived a painful and bounded life, but that has allowed her to emerge a strong-willed, compassionate, and powerful woman who was keen on sharing her experiences and words of wisdom with the world. This is an important documentary as it shares a new perspective on life from a person who has truly lived through thick and thin. Her struggles proved to be worth it in the end, as she has become one of the most successful people in her family. Joining her in interviews are other powerful women in my family, who could relate to her in struggles, grief, and empowerment. Emma and others featured in the documentary have become a role model for younger generations for just that reason, and have thus left a significant mark on the world.
If you have seen “100 Miles: A Running Documentary,” the previous documentary I released, you will find that these two projects contrast each other. As Kevin runs 100 Miles through the summer Californian wilderness, Emma Eivers is unable to move most of her body as she sits in her home. However, they were both able to accomplish unbelievable goals, even after being told that they could not be able to. It does not matter what condition your body is in, or what mental state you have, you can always accomplish just as much as anyone else. Even after a fractured shoulder, a heavy personal loss, the birth of his newborn daughter, and numerous issues on the trail, Kevin was able to finish his 100 miles race. As you will come to see, Emma Eivers faced countless losses, numerous disabilities, and dire situations, and nonetheless managed to never give up. These documentaries are for those who say “I don’t think I can do it.” Yes, you absolutely can. Just like those in my documentaries prove, the seemingly impossible is still possible.
