Jody Maphis, Joe's son. Went to jr. high with Jody in Atwater, California. Both of us played in the school band and both of us together got to play electric guitar with the band. Big deal back in those days. Awesome to see Kenny using Jody's Mosrite.
Saw Deke & the Eccofonics in late February in my town. What a fabulous player, showman and Gentleman. A true guitar wizard, entertainer, and guitar historian!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he comes to your neighborhood, do not miss him.
Deke's a friend an' you gotta believe he's KILLER...in SO MANY ways: guitar picker, singer, songwriter, historical writer, brilliant mind and collector of all things cool, musical & otherwise...plus a REAL gentleman, entertainer and showman. The West Coast...well, the whole Nation...is lucky to have a cat like Deke!
Early American, wow. great. But imagine the 12 year old Larry Collins doing the song with Joe Maphis on Town Hall Party in 50's on the double neck mosrites. mosrite60
Absolutely brilliant and talented performance. Kenny and Deke are utilizing double neck guitar playing at its best. As one viewer wrote, this song was originally performed by Joe Maphis and a very young Larry Collins in the 1950's on double neck Mosrite guitars hand made by legend guitar luthier Semi Moseley. Kenny always reminds me of a young Hank Marvin of England's famous instrumental band "The Shadows". To play this difficult instrumental not only on national TV but with legend "Duane Eddy" sitting in the front row audience watching every finger movement would be nerve racking for most performers. A wonderful post. Thank you!
Very cool...those twin harmonizing licks remind me of double tracked Les Paul recordings and the Kenny & Deke's double duty on the Maphis recall Stevie and Jimmie Vaughan's brotherly bit.
Deke Dickerson is not to be missed. He tours the USA and Europe almost non-stop. Sign up at his website for his schedule. He may be in your town on a Wednesday night for $8.00. You'd feel like a fool if you missed him, again!
Real country artists don't go on stage looking like they stopped off at the venue on their way home from picking up dog food and frozen pizza at Walmart. Whenever I see some "country" artist in a T shirt and ball cap, I know its going to suck. (Yeah, I'm talking to you Luke Bryan.) This is actual country music, folks.
On yesterday’s news, various musicians were eulogising Van Halen...a guy who I’d heard of,but never heard. So I gave him a listen and thought his quadruple sustain guitar sound was bloody awful ...unlike this and all the other guitar pickers I’ve followed for 65 years....Franny Beecher,Perkins,Scotty,Chuck,Cochran,Gallup,Skaggs,Gill etc.etc.!
Shhhh!!!!Did i just hear Mr Bert Weedon stir in his grave...(this is for the English folks that remember him)..omg what would he have said seeing these talented guys....
That there is a leg end.A 6'4 country boy called Deke ..with his name on the NECKS of his double neck Geetar Boy you don't git to much more countried up..I'm tellin ya!
@@oleracoon Chet Atkins, Glen Campbell & Roy Clark have all credited Johnny Cash with teaching them how to play several instruments & also how to sing. It's on the website, countrymusicpickers.com.
@@monerz1 No, Buck Owens was a - very good - rhythm guitarist. He started as a studio musician. Johnny Cash is - for sixty years - my favorite singer, I have seen him on stage many times throughout his career and I can say that Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, Campbell and others cannot say that they have been influenced by Cash.
