DeLand Bike Tour - DAY 1: Lake Woodruff NWR | Ponce de Leon Springs

I'm taking Amtrak to DeLand to continue my bike trip where I left off last time. On the first day, I'll be checking out the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge and Ponce de Leon Springs State Park. At the end of the day, I'll head to the nearby Hearth Island Conservation Area, where I have a free campsite reserved. The next day, heading back to Blue Springs State Park and take the trail to Lake Monroe, continuing the Coast-to-Coast Trail to Buck Lake Conservation Area near Titusville.

That area is very nice. I spent a lot of time at Lake Woodruff when I lived up there.

Amtrak there in Deland! Nice! Sunrail is going to be opening there later this summer. Then you can connect all the way to Poinciana, FL. Another great bike and train adventure! Thomas, always making me jealous of the train adventures! Thanks for sharing your trip, we love following along! DeLeon Springs is nice!

Looking forward to the Sunrail train ride. It's a great way to get closer to Three Lakes WMA and Kissimmee Prairie gravel roads.

Another great day on the trail. Those trees were huge. Pretty awesome. Always neat to see the bald eagle. Beautiful areas visited. I kept thinking about alligators on the dirt trails next to the canal and brush areas. Glad you are careful with the potential hazards. Take care and have a great day.

It's a great area and Ponce de Leon Springs is a very beautiful state park. The good thing about these campsites there is that it's free. I heard the gator jump into the water, a big splash. They are trying to get out of the way as you approach. They feel safe in the water but not on the ground.

Descresion is always the better part of valor, especially when it comes to alligators..🤣🤣🤙

Gators are lazy and want nothing to do with humans but crocks are a different story. South Florida has them both.

I am looking forward to the Buck Lake story, I am probably staying there for my next Merritt Island Trip. I stayed at the Hal Scott, which is near Orlando Wetlands, also hard to find the camping area, part of the St. Johns free camps. It was great I recommend it.

Buck Lake campsite was a perfect site to stay. I need to look up that Hal Scott campsite, haven't heard about that one yet.

Beautiful view from the tower! That was a tiny road! De Leon Springs is an amazing park! We loved the pancakes! We went swimming and boating there too. I love big oak trees! I would be a little nervous camping out there by myself.
