The Delaware Blue Hens have announced they are transitioning from FCS to FBS starting next year. It is certainly and interesting move and one the school deserves credit for making.
Look, Delaware football are not world beaters or anything close to it. However, the gap between FBS college football and FCS is shrinking. James Madison and Conference USA are proof of that.
Why not make the move? For Delaware, the move allows the school to be a part of the national conversation. Simply put, a losing season as an FBS program is more exciting than winning seasons as a member of the CAA.
The only issue is Delaware Stadium which is not an FBS-level stadium. The entire campus kind of stinks if we're being honest. Besides that, you have to like this move for the Blue Hens.

I disagree with everything he says. The stadium is getting a multi million dollar upgrade. Delaware academics way higher than Sac State. The alumni are paying the entrance fee.

The guy has obviously never been to the stadium or the central campus. The stadium is in PERFECT shape to be upgraded as needed, and the central campus is gorgeous. People who have never spent time there should not comment. There are dozens of FBS campuses and stadiums that are much shabbier than UD in all respects.

Delaware has a very good transit system that I would use on a daily basis to get around the campus. Also, unless you're walking from north campus all the way to the stadiums, it doesn't take more than 15-20 minutes to walk anywhere on campus.

Went to Delaware for a JMU game years ago and remember being impressed by the stadium and fans. They are a great addition to CUSA. Can’t wait to have them play JMU again in nonconfrence games!

UD is a very walkable campus I have no idea what you're talking about! its easy to look at a map and see there are research buildings off campus and see north campus appear very separated, but most students live on campus within the heart of the green and there arent classes anywhere but the main campus, i dunno, if I were you I wouldn't look at a map and walk around campus and act like I know what I'm talking about if you've never been a student here. not trying to dunk on you, but the walkability of the campus is one of the best things about the school.

anyways, decent video, I'm stoked for UD to be in the FBS, not necessarily stoked to be in CUSA, I see it more as getting a foot in the door for the eventual conference realignment. I'd love to be in some sort of northeast or midatlantic conference with our old school rivals like Temple, Navy, Villanova, Rutgers, and JMU, maybe Maryland UMass BC and UConn too. rumor says a lot of our sports donors said they would be happy to give more money for stadium upgrades if the school moved up, so I'll be excited to see what that looks like. even the new home-side seating is new as of a few years ago and compared to what we had for years its pretty nice lol I remember seeing Flacco play here and sitting on the ice cold metal bleachers in November and December always gave a very hardnosed, no excuses, lambeau and soldier field type of attitude to the program and the fanbase even if it was shitty. all that being said, thanks for making the video, I hope you get the opportunity to visit campus sometime between spring and fall and maybe actually take a tour with a tour group, the old brick and lush greenery of the campus really is beautiful. (for the record we don’t really consider anything east of Haines, south of Park, or north or west of the tracks to be part of campus, most of the satellite buildings are for faculty or specialized research)

I've been near the whole campus and it's In a small block and most of the town is walkable to a point, I like when students can walk to a class or the dorm then walk to their strip of the city with restaurants and hangout spots.

You mentioned James Madison and Old Dominion succesfully moving to FBS. Both CAA schools along with Delaware. They will be fine.

The introductory comment about how the campus "stinks" is ridiculous. How do you explain the many plaudits about Newark being one of the great college towns in America? It is obvious the author has never walked around the beautiful central Newark Campus. Ignorance is understandable from someone who has never spent time there.

So easy to imagine future rivalry games with Maryland and Rutgers. Comparing UD with Sac State is totally absurd...Sac State's campus and stadium are both ugly and inconvenient.

Given that all of these programs who've jumped and seen success seem to be from that Appalachia-Mid Atlantic area, with Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, and Liberty having come up and played well too, it makes sense. Also makes you wonder if NC A&T is getting the itch.

You need to take a good look at the other CUSA stadiums. Delaware is actually better than most.

And most don't put forth upgrades until they are needed for the FBS move because why put in this investment if it turns out you get nothing out of it.

Yeah bro you aren’t cooking with the campus layout thing… The campus is perfectly fine. The busses are good enough to get around and most majors keep you on the central part of campus for classes. You definitley do not need a car to go to UD unless you want to get around to the rest of the state, which doesn’t have the best transit.

Yes there isn’t a big gap between FBS and top FCS programs. Just look at North Dakota State who has a record like 10 wins and 3 losses to FBS schools in last 15 years including Iowa, Iowa State and Kansas State while they were all ranked in top 20 at time

I am a huge Delaware fan and have been for years. Delaware kind of screwed up when they kinda wanted be IVY league when they fired Keeler the student don’t show like they use to the culture change to much. Kind of liberalized lol

Wouldn't Delaware be the 11th team in the CUSA in 2025.Kennesaw State will be the 10th team to enter the CUSA in 2024 as a full member.

Please watch D1 360 video for actual facts and information. By stats and facts Delaware is pretty on par with current CUSA schools..Believe it or not, Delaware's facilities are level if not better than some the current CUSA schools. Sam Houston's facilities are pretty pitiful, as are those in JAX State's. Kennesaw State is added next season; they have a under 10K capacity stadium. Don't be so hard on Delaware; they really aren't that far off from lower level FBS G5 schools and have a large endowment for a G5 FBS school.

Delaware gets some money from being a corporate haven, so this… Aaaah. You’re an Idaho grad with a little bitterness that the west is the west (partly why Idaho had to relegate) and Delaware has a place to go. Only Washington-Grizzly has a larger capacity than Delaware Stadium (a lot of that behind the goal line for reasons). Barely bigger than the Sac bleacher feature and Bobcat. When I think of the typical Big Sky stadium, considering half the conference has 11,000 or less capacity… just saying.

It is only a select few that want to see Delaware Football play in the FBS. They will get crushed year after year and struggle to even play in a bowl game.
