In today's video, I dive into the struggle many artists face in the age of social media. You look at Instagram, TikTok, RU-vid, and all over the internet, constantly comparing yourself to other artists. You see a 16-year-old with 16 trillion interplanetary likes and realize you only have six likes at 36. You feel sad, showing your art to friends and followers, deciding that your life's quality depends on the quality-or even quantity-of those likes.
But here's the truth: this isn't finding your art style. It's finding your flaws, your reasons to die, but not your art style. Most people aren't busy finding their art style; they're sponging, stealing, scanning, sampling, and synchronizing their style with the 21st century. But synchronization is not you. It has nothing to do with you.
So, let's ask the most important question when it comes to finding your art style. But first, why can't you go on social media for inspiration? The simple reality is that your output depends on your input. Spend three hours a day on social media, and you'll be inspired by what others create. Your art will mirror the 21st century, just like everyone else's. If Michael Phelps ate a standard American diet, he'd be fat. Your input determines your output.
As an artist, you must be conscious of what you consume. I don't watch RU-vid; I read RU-vid. I select books at least 100 years old and bestselling for decades. Consuming what no one else is in the 21st century makes my content unique.
Now, the most important question for creatives: Can you live for two months without creating anything? If yes, your journey as an artist ends here. Embrace something else and dedicate yourself fully. If no, congratulations, you're an artist. You won't be happy with a regular job, exchanging time for money. You must create, whether it's businesses, books, paintings, or poetry.
