I made a program to teach you how to make money as a creative because most artists spend a lifetime acquiring their skills but only spend several days learning how to sell that skill. This mindset is fundamentally broken. You need to figure out how to make money from your creativity in order to live the life of your dreams. On this channel we'll be teaching you this for free. If you want to take it a step further and learn which paid offers I have check out the website: www.driesketels.com
The hypocrisy of this guy is hilarious! He basically says that the school system is flawed because the teacher only cares about your work because they are getting paid. Then he goes on to provide links to learn how to sell your art and become a success by paying him! I've watched several of his videos and basically the only skill he has is being good at BSing and approaching art in a souless, cash grab way.
Whoa. Wow. Just so you know, maybe it matters, maybe not, but my impression of you after watching 30? 50? of your videos is that you REALLY had your shi* together in life. I couldn't have imagined what happened in the past. But, it's the past. You've somehow pulled yourself together and you're producing amazing art. You've somehow got 33,000+ followers here. Your videos make me smile and laugh out loud almost every day and I still have dozens more I can watch anytime. Unfortunately you've had some experiences that could have wrecked your life. They haven't though. You're still here cranking it out. Don't stop man, this is your calling. This is what you're great at. Your monologues are honestly the best I've ever heard on the topic of art. You have a unique style that appeals to so many of us. Keep going bro. Keep cranking it out. Keep your faith in humanity. You've connected with a number of as*holes over the years. The thing is, you're free to find new friends. New people worth trusting. People who like your personality. People who like your intelligence. People who like what you have to say and who FOLLOW YOU. I've only been watching you for a few months, but I can't look away. I have to watch every new video you put out, and even crave an old one every now and then. I'm not even an artist AT ALL. I'd love to, but just don't have the time. I make money online but have no talent in art. I live vicariously through my daughter - who has some talent, and YOU. You have real talent too. It persevered through some real dark days. You're past all that. You have an incredible future ahead. I see it clearly. Just go there... follow your heart and this dream of a very successful art career and you'll get there. It's where you're supposed to be. It's so obvious to me. Cheers man!!!!!!
Insanely misleading clickbaity title, but uhh maybe a translation issue? You’re not talking about how to draw, but how to cater to a niche or market. To have your success defined by your relationship to the consumer. Damian Hirst…
I absolutely love this video and your channel. Completing any kind of work has value, although not everyone will agree on it. I’m always proud of anything I produce. The largest work I made was 5 feet by 7 feet with stretched distressed canvas, gesso with clay and mica from the backyard, and reclaimed wood for the frame. I used a combination of leaves, twigs, rocks and my hands to apply the paint. It took me about 80 hours over 2 months. I priced it at $3700 for materials and labor time. One prospective client asked “can you do better on the price?” I thought for about a minute and said. “You’re right. I can do better on the price. $5400.” He scoffed “that’s not a better price.” I beamed, “it is for me.” I learned that I was previously pricing my pieces to sell to customers. From that point onward I price them because they were made by me for those who appreciate art, even it is only with their wallet. I moved from Georgia to Florida and the art community here is quite different. People are quick to brag about their art in that they got a good deal. Never in my life have I ever heard an artist exclaim, “that client paid me too much for that painting.”
100% correct sir- price is about the "intellectually superior" namely those that have the "money" to show off wealth. Hey man , so what ? The herd (proletariat) can only appreciate chocolate box paintings and don't feel that they have the need to "intellectualize" deeper meanings from "A*****orifice " art and dazzle other proletariat with their erudite repertoire of nonsense . Beautiful art will always be beautiful . greetings from Cape Town South Africa
Thanks for another GREAT video, Dries! I think it's important to ask ourselves the right questions. Do I want to sell my art? Yes. For millions? Not necessarily. Do I want to be proud of what I'm painting or drawing? Absolutely. It's actually maybe the most important to me to stay aligned with my artistic values. I will not paint things that I don't enjoy or not pride of just to access money and fame. Otherwise i would have chosen another path 😅
So you have to act like these gys in the fairytale: The Emperor's New Clothes" ? Thats probably the way, most gallery owners and other art sellers act. Betraying the stupid sellers. But , for me, thats not the right way!
This year I started to paint sacred geometry, mandala, it give me relief to stress. I discovered that to look at mandala relief the stress too. so drawing it is to give somethink good to everybody including me. I am a very stressed person but when I have a compass everythink change and I know that I have found my art. I start to sell prints and originals too because I need money to go ahead to do it. karma. have a nice life.
The title of the video is deceptive: being able to draw better than 99% of people is not the same thing as making more money than 99% of artists. The free PDF isn't free either, because you have to provide your e-mail address, something for which you will no doubt end up paying a price. But what if you don't give a damn about making money, and just want to learn to draw?
..........or Damian Hirst is friends with the "wrong"people and the money isn't really about the paintings. Come on, he himself knows as well his paintings are not worth so much money. I like it you speaking out on this kind of things, thank you for that🥰🥰🥰🥰
Actually the paintings of Damien Hirst are worth the money! Why: Because people are paying the ridiculous prices. If you wonder why people are paying high prices for mediocre art, the answer is: Marketing. Damien is a brand, not a painter. Of course he is capable to produce reasonable paintings. But why are people paying high prices for reasonable paintings? I think that Dries Ketels is trying to explain that. Myself I would like Peter Doig or Matthew Wong more. Those paintings are selling at high prices and they are good paintings. Damien Hirst definitely does not produces high quality paintings. But they are still worth the price. Since people like to buy a Damien Hirst and brag about it. It is like buying a Louis Vuitton bag. You pay a high price so you can brag about owning a Louis vuitton bag. However in your city might exist a small company producing tailor made bags. These bags are more beautiful than Louis Vuitton and the price is reasonable. But still you can not show off and brag about owning a Louis Vuitton, when buying your locally manufactured bag.
Photo-realistic art has always baffled me. I understand that before camera's we needed to get good, but we have cameras, art for art's sake! Ok, watching rest of the video now.
Well done mate. Another cracking video, thank you for the PDF, I look forward to receiving it. You always give me confidence to carry on, and that makes you valuable. God bless.
I love making art and I love being surrounded by it. I sit here in my little studio, and it's good for my soul. I never went to art school, so completely self taught. I have no particular style either. One day I might do abstract, next day maybe an animal. I have many, many pieces on my walls. My friends tell me I should sell at local shows, but so far I haven't attempted that. I have just been given a commission to do a forest scene with animals, and I am thrilled, but also nervous about that. So, wish me luck. I have no desire to be a professional painter. I just do it for the love and joy of being a creative soul. I love your videos.
@@authenticmanlymanderson And why do you feel you need to point that out? You were not asked for critique nor did boondoggy2 say anything about being a writer or even wanting to be one. Why do you feel entitled to say something like this to a stranger on the internet you know nothing about. This is just rude.
Basically, you are reducing art to commerical success. Ugly Art. Which amounts to chasing gimmicks and novelty. And what you are calling art style, or recognizability is just branding ~ like cereal boxes of corn flakes. I want to recommend a video by Odd Nerdrum, about how the philosopher Kant "changed our heads" about art. I have been researching how non-representational art became, supposedly, popular ~ but it wasn't. It was pushed by "The Art Police". Check out Nerdrum's talks on art. I learned a lot. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EcjVXBXn7b4.html
I honestly prefer to be alone most of the time. I find nothing wrong with it, only other people think it’s strange. I rather be in my little art studio creating my own little world that makes me happy then out and about with strangers acting like they care about my day or having those horrific awkward conversations with people that lead to nothing but uncomfortableness. I have a close group of friends that i love dearly but i honestly don’t feel the need to meet up at a bar to catch up on life all the time. They understand that and that’s why I love them. I think the older we get we realize a lot of truth within ourselves and no matter what it is, you follow your intuition and your heart. Seems like you have been through dark times and I can tell you one thing for sure, there is ALWAYS A RAINBOW at the end of that storm and everything that has happened will lead you in the direction in life you need to go. Even if it doesn’t feel like it at the moment ❤
freinds are over rated, the more friends you have the more problems you have, your better off being crazzy artist who sells his art for millions, then you can buy as many freinds as you want
All or nothing, that sounds like me 😂 Thank you for the inspiration ❤ It sounds easy when you talk about it, but I know you do a lot of work and put a lot of effort into overcoming that procrastination process. I really appreciate that you share what you have learned ✨️
That was a very long rant for not even recommending any good on demand print services. I have been doing it for years on various platforms and they've absolutely been robbing my profits. The margins they keep are extortionate!
Brilliant. I’m a New subscriber. All I ever wanted to do is be a full time artist . This year after 30 years of the 9-5 to raise a family. I’m going for it! Social media is so confusing. I totally don’t get instagram . When I find an artist on instagram I can’t figure out how to go to a website, or message them. Seems like a waste of time. help! Can you make it without instagram?
The fact that this is true, just reminds me why I can't stand this world and how it works. This is gross and sullied of all pure heart. Thank God this life ends at some point for the higher world of true beauty and eternal truth and art.
