This was a call on a Delfield prep table not cooling on the bottom section. I found evidence of water damage and we investigate what it damaged.

A while ago I had a bar cooler with a digital temperature controller that shorted out (with a loud bang) due to water damage. This had happened before and everyone tought it was because of the habit of cleaning the floor with buckets of water. However it seemed that due to the hot weather and high humidity there was water that condensated on the (not so well insulated) part between te doors. That water started to drip on the controller eventually causing problems. So we moved the controller to the back of the unit by cutting a hole in the back plate. It has been running without problems for multiple years now.
@throttlebottle5906
@throttlebottle5906 4 года назад
looked like it iced up and stopped the fan early in the video, now back to watching. wild guesses water damage and/or temp sensor not defrosting it :) after watching more yep and the water in the temp control would effect the temp sensor readings(thermistors) since it's low voltage and current. very likely the condensate/cleaning water is dirty and acidic/conductive also, which would really whack it out

at 4:59 those boards are multi-layer with "via's" so those button pads/solder joints could still be connected through and possibly do something, but they may be ignored. then again knowing and dealing with many processor controlled things, it could cause a hard-lock if it's wet or bridged even if not used! ** but yeah, it appears to be used only as a display on that setup!

Lowered section is controlled by temperature sensors. Top rail it's controlled via pressure control switch. Look up your r404a chart for temperature cut-offs on pressure control. FYI delfield tech support doesn't know much more than the average technician out there.

probably best to use heat-shrink butt-splice crimps instead! then it seals the connections. but once wet the plug ends and wire at the board could be bad/corroded also. so do both ends!

I've found myself guilty of too often slapping on the probes, goosing some gas and further complicating a trouble shooting situation that merited a bigger picture diagnosis.

I would add, if you're seeing calcium on top of the temp controller they're throwing hypochlorite into the works. Easiest to tell em is "hit it with a mop then rinse that off with a spray bottle" because the floor cleaner is nowhere near as destructive. Would not surprise me if this specific customer is just taking a hose off the water heater and using some kind of suction nozzle full of pool shock to wash stuff down. It would explain the splash, the draining into the display, the huge amount of water entering the coil and freezing up.

DelField... I think they use the min. size condenser,, They prob test it at the factory with a brand new clean coil and used the smaller one, cause a little dirt in the condenser, especially a kitchen or cooking area,The head pressures go sooo High,, with a new case I RUN RUN to Home Depo and get the Blue fiters, cut them to size and use magnets to hold on condenser(Blue fiters jst capture the crazy heavy stuff, it looks new for years)....to catch the starting dirt which gets impacted. I also take temp readings on the discharge, write it on the inside wall along with ambient at that time, and compressor amp readings, Then I will stop in many weeks( Have a service contract) check the filter, replace if needed, and keep them running with no service calls like NOBODYS businessLol..for years
