@@Hamatabo He's just reciting what scripture really teaches man. It's a guidebook to having fulfillment in life. It teaches that we're supposed to let God fight our battles for us and to dump our sorrows unto the Lord. What it really teaches about evangelism is what John is doing. Teaching people the peace and love that comes with the philosophy if followed correctly and wholly. The scripture even teaches that most of its followers are going to be fallen and not of the faith. It's all about just basking in the Lord's love and accepting his fearful and amazing embrace and just loving him back. All he wants is for you to love him back and that's what's so beautiful to me about the faith. It wasn't supposed to be a faith of conquest. It was never supposed to be a faith of bloodlust like the catholic church made it out to be. It was supposed to be a faith of peace and love for the great unifier. It saddens me to see my people treated with disdain however it's written that it would happens I have to learn to deal with it.
What John has taught me so well is, the closer we are to God, the less we harm ourselves, others and the planet. The more we live in the realm of God, the more healing we bring to this lost and fallen world.

Really excellent John! I enjoyed the scriptures you quoted and said them aloud with you while watching this. I liked a lot of your answers. Though I think you should elaborate and explain more. I think sometimes it seems more complicated or difficult for unbelievers to get how simple it is to just trust and believe in God. Surrendering our desire to control every part of our lives is not easy but once its accomplished what a weight that is lifted. To hand God the keys to your life and allow Him to rule over you and orchestrate it for you is both beautiful and wonderous. It is only when I try to control things myself and take those keys back that things dont go right and I am reminded again why God is God and how much he loves us. The walk with Him in this life isnt easy but it is so worth it! Here's my only debates...at around 11:32 you suggest that living in light makes evil dissapear...simply not true. Example: Jesus himself who is light and has never sinned in his entire life spent 40 days and 40 nights in the Judaean desert and Satan appeared to Him and He was continually tempted by Satan. Infact most Christians will testify that as soon as you read the bible, pray or hear the word of God that the enemy comes immediately to try to confuse you or twist the words or meaning or in some other way. Being a Christian makes you more of a target of the enemy most Christians would say. On the judgment topic, God gave us discernment as a means to keep ourselves safe and our families safe. If we did not use judgment at any time in our life or discernment we would not be using wisdom. You have to be careful how you teach John especially with new believers or unbelievers. Saying things like evil just disappears is false and misleading.

I love these from an ASMR point of view and I think John is a genuine and interesting man. However (!), I do find the word games somewhat troubling. The fact that evil backwards spells live means nothing. The fact that wonderful sounds like the made-up word onederful does nothing to extend John's philosophy. God is dog backwards, should we read anything into that? Of course not. 'True' wisdom and knowledge are great objectives even if they're arguably unobtainable, however the genuine seeking out of these does not give us the right to redefine language on a personal whim. As Jeff Dee puts it so well, "you have a right to your own beliefs, you do not have a right to your own facts".

All my life I've been drawn to the contemplative life and inner stillness, and yet the battle with thoughts has raged. Yes your right but I think he is saying individually in ourselves. So we do not have to contribute more to the sins in the world. Basically hating our own sins an repenting an trying to seek God at all times an ask for his peace to dwell in us. With That mind change now we can do good an stop our own sins so we no longer add to the sins of the world.

Evil does exist. Ephesians 6:12 describes powers of darkness and principalities, the rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places. We can pretend it isn't "there", but it is there, in men's hearts.

With all respect for Mr.butler, it sounds all very nice , having lived a long live , living in small rural place, etc,etc. But if Evil comes to visiting out of the blue., like say, young girls getting raped & killed every hour every day somewhere on this globe. I am not sure if this will get to John, but, much to love about this video and indeed John himself. Here's what's missing in this answer, and not sure why the interviewer skipped over the obvious: there are many (millions even) who live in the world in imminent fear, close to starvation, have been tortured or worse--that is to say they do not have the luxury of a quiet church and focusing on the light. Anytime their children might be kidnapped or killed, or they themselves, or any matter of war and destitution pervades 24 hours a day. What would John say to these poor folks? Certainly not that evil is in the e "mist of their minds???"

If we ask God to "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" does this mean that God will lead us into temptation? Did he not lead his son Jesus into temptation? Is God responsible for the bad things that happen to good people? Is he responsible for the prosparity of the wicked? Is not the Devil an agent of God, created by God to be the adversary of man? Are we not evil ourselves, born into an evil world, made to operate under an evil system? Is this not one of our main purposes in life, not only to experience what it's like to live in an evil world, but to gain a full knowledge of good and evil by being made evil ourselves? It's something that can not be taught, it must be experienced. I can't speak for others, but when I leave this planet, I will depart with a first-rate education in the knowledge of good and evil. I don't believe that evil exists where God is. Therefore, when we leave here to go be with him, we'll leave evil here on earth where it belongs. What a ride!
Many thanks again John for shining a light and giving us hope that we can do something that will improve our present difficulties and struggles. It sounds so simple ! But having just begun this journey know how we can be so easily knocked off course, the struggle is real. I do find meditation now such a very practical way of being able to help oneself overcome evil. Alongside this practice I find myself longing for words ,language, scripture. We are told to pray in the spirit (interpret this as you will!)but to pray also with our understanding. I'm just beginning to find my way....Just wondered what your thoughts on this might be. If we govern our lives through Gods eyes and search for peace and truly following his commandments as a society, this WORLD would be literally a heaven on earth. John's words really resonate with me, and I'm not at all a religious person. I almost feel like he's not religious either. He uses religious words, but I don't feel any dogma behind them. Just one person's attempt to describe what this is that we seem to be going through
I'd like to take exception to the tenor of this video. First of all, where is the mention of Jesus? Secondly, does the speaker really believe that Jesus, when speaking about demons, or confronting Satan on the desert, was simply battling a dark projection of his own mind? Mr. Butler, when you turn on a light in a dark room what you see is what had been invisible to you. Often, shadows are cast. This is not a balanced video.
OzarkoBlam sometimes tho I think god did make evil. All things come from god. Maybe the Big Bang was actually the great separation where god cast evil from itself. But more likely is that without evil there can’t be good. Just like without a far there can’t be a near. Chaos needs order and order needs chaos. Pure order means stagnation and non change or growth. So yes, god did create evil to further his purpose. That or his very being caused evil to be ,as a natural reaction to his good.
23.10 - Phil’s distinguishing of evil ‘inside’ (shadow, ignorance, defence mechanisms, projection...etc) as opposed to Evil ‘out there’ externalised - it’s so helpful to hear this articulated clearly and compassionately. Prayer and scripture are impenetrable superstition and empty dogma without clear explanation of the language in its depiction of the inner life and the necessity of coming to know ourselves (the long and difficult Work John describes and embodies). A book, whether the bible, or a contemporary work on spirituality, can only point to that which is. What happens is that some take the pointing's as the goal. The written word becomes the focus of worship. Unless the seeker finds for thenselves words remain that, just words. There is no inherent power in reciting words, or memorization of them. You have to experience that place of stillness yourself. What Jesus said was the kingdom(dimension) of Heaven(space) is within you. The kingdom of god doesn't come with signs to be perceived. Why? Because in its essence, its you, and its within. :)

I’m confused by what he’s saying about evil. He talks a lot about Jesus but he’s saying things that make it sound like he doesn’t also believe that Satan is real and that we are the only evil. If we do no evil there’s still evil because there’s a being who is evil. It’s almost like he picks and chooses what parts of Christianity he wants to believe in and that’s very confusing. Also he says God is governing the world. The Bible makes it clear that Satan has a position of power on the earth. Of course God is above him but John is minimizing the devil and that by it’s very definition is in opposition to God. God tells us to know that that threat is VERY real. The devil is seeking someone to devour roaming around like a roaring lion. God helps those who helps themselves? That’s not true and that’s not even biblical. It doesn’t say that anywhere in scripture.

I love listening to Mr Butler's voice and, as others have said, I could happily listen to him reading the phone book. But some of the things he says, well I just can't get on board with them. 'Evil backwards is live'??? 'What happens when you turn on the light in a dark room'??? They sounds like things you read in a fortune cookie.

Also God gives Satan authority to tempt Job. God sees evil. The bible seems quite clear that evil is a real thing......Johns view on this seems rather subjective and not really backed by anything.

Religion is such a touchy subject with those who believe. I do not, but I have no problem with those who do. Good and Evil in my opinion has nothing to do with any god figure or any satan figure. It simply has to do with each of us. How we choose to live our lives and interact with each other. Evil spelled backwards is Live and God spelled backwards is dog.....what's your point? John seems like a fine fellow, a bit misguided but some people have a need to believe in something bigger than themselves, real or not.

The problem of so many people is that we think we are so spiritual now that we turned vegan, and have read The Power of Now, or listen to some speeches of Sadhguru. Then there is a real wise and simple man like John who is pointing to the real wisdom and "spiritual work". STOP JUDGING! Now this is spirituality... RESIST NOT EVIL. This is spirituality. But then most of us, keep listening to these false prophets who they themselves are lost and taking us even farther into the lie, and we cannot even take the very first spiritual step. I know I am being contradictory in this one, because right now I myself am judging, but I take it from this video as the most challenging and most important task in my life - to stop judging. I am perplexed to realize how readily I wage wars of judgement against every thing on the outside. Blindly... thinking I am being right about so many things. That's the thing, is that, even if I might be right, by judging I don't make it better. I only but poison my spirit and turn this evil which I just judged into something much greater and unbearable. This is about the individual's journey & his/her actions & beliefs. Difficult not to react against perceived badness, but who are we to judge? I presume John is a pacifist & also believes that criminals need help, not punishment. There is no evil except that we can't see the 'whole picture' , so we project & interpret as evil. But.... difficult to do...

I love this guy but I take issue. Some of us were popped out onto this rock by evil biological parents of origin. I have been slogging around in the mud before I had consciousness of myself. I have almost died because of this awful existence. I’m 61 years old and actually wound up in Seminary because I gave up on most of my hopes and dreams at age 14. This “god” is a vindictive prick for letting this happen. I fight every damned day and meditation is useless because my hyper-vigilance won’t leave me alone. This comes from a man who admittedly says his life was predisposed for silence. I have been in a fight my entire life. The fact that my heart is still beating is friggin’ heroic. I didn’t “turn away” from anything. I was in the grip of this horrid existence because two mentally ill people decided to get married and have sex.
Again... why are we listening to an interpreter, asking questions? Because even you need clarification? "John... Are you saying...?" What? You don't know?

I've meditated twice a day,(20mins) for 39 years.And most ,though not all,of what John says sounds like impractical self contradictory gobeldygook to me.But I'll keep on keeping on because I've glimpsed enough to believe something is there to be found.But without first hand realisation of bliss all discription is just hearsay as far as my hearts welfare is concerned
The more you focus on X the more you see X. The more you focus on evil the more you see evil. There is infinite evil and infinite good. Do you want to bath in evil or do you want to bath in something else? It's your choice. In a sense it is about ignoring... ignorance. Do you want to be ignorant of evil? Well, you likely can't... but you can stop learning about it. In some sense one can say that all those that you think are hurt by evil are people who focused on evil. They looked in to the eyes of evil(devil) and they no longer lived. If you ignore something it goes away. But you must truly ignore it. Now, is this really true? Can you just ignore something and it goes away? Well, yes and no. Evil always exists... but so does good. If you focus on good then you'll bask in good more than evil. If you focus on evil you will bask in evil. It is hard to do because the concept works entirely counter to how we think. Is is true though? Does it actually work this way? In some sense it does. At the very least if you focus more on evil in the world then it will depress you and you will see more because you are focusing on it. If you just did not focus on it then you'll be happier. Maybe if everyone focused on the good(god) in the world there would be no evil(devil). This is also true in some sense. It feels wrong because it feels as if we "ignore" evil then we are allowing to grow, but quite the opposite... when we pay attention to evil, evil grows. The world is very strange, it sometimes works exactly backwards than we think(as if we are looking in a rear view mirror trying too drive). I can't say it works this way or not absolutely. Part of me agrees with John but another part says that when you are ignore evil, it is still growing and can consume you by your ignorance of allowing it. Many people try to ignore evil and it seems that over time evil grows regardless. But also in some sense maybe you can't change it... or, in some sense, by being good(focusing on good) you can reduce it's growth. I think this is something that John has come to accept as how it works, he might be right. I am not there yet. I'm about 50/50 or maybe 60/40. If it truly does work this way then it is actually quite simple. At the very least by ignoring it you can live happier most of the time.
So basically, he's telling us to take the blue pill. No, seriously, John has flaws in his views, teachings and definitions, and that's normal, but otherwise, the lessons remain quite useful. And this video, although very religious, is infinitely better than most other videos on this subject, which usually come away from this view(Yes, I'm looking at you, Christian extremists like Westboro Baptist Church).
How can you tell someone in the midst of torture that evil is not real? How can you tell someone still tortured, quite unwillingly, by the trauma of an atrocity inflicted on them ten years ago that evil is not real? That it's a matter of "not believing in it"? For many it is not something "far away" or "in the news" but right in the real raw present moment, the one we're supposed to find grounding and solace in according to John. Some do not have the option of turning their attention from it. A child in an abusive home must experience, up close and personal, the evil of their caregivers until such time as they can escape. Those in the Gulags and the Holocaust can't deny the existence of evil. Those languishing in North Korea must contend with the evils of tyranny every single day. John, if I came into your home right now and began slicing you up and gutting you, would turning to the light be an option? Could you say the evil I was inflicting on you was not real? Or would the pain be too great to deny? This philosophy works when you are removed from evil to a greater or lesser degree, someone who can change the channel, log off of Twitter, sit on a green hill in stillness. But how can it work for someone right in the thick of it?
Mr. Butler you say corrupt body but then you say don't judge. Isn't that judgement ? Body is weak, and fragile, and i see it with compassion. Isn't it ?
And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. John 3:19-20 Jesus is the way my friend.
Huh.. I guess I ought not be surprised that you said God helps those who helps themselves. He helps those who cannot. For without Him we can do nothing and by His spirit He helps us to do what we cannot. The Inner battle of evil will always be upon us all from the day we are created into the living breathing world into the descament grounds of the tombstone covered dead. Making our choices as we do such as making commitment into actions such as spending your time to mistreating a person anywhere you go, to put down and grasp the crowning achievements of raising your own heart into terrible actions and such. Though I don't provide myself with God so much as a more of religious people, I do believe in a higher power may it be this "God" or a being we have named God that watches over us time and time again.
I'm sorry John but you are off on this one fearing evil and it's existence are two separate things evil does exist but it is subjugated to God you John by the grace of God gave been allowed to reach this old age but many have fallen by the hands of evil at a early age even though God determines our passing from this life none the less it was at the hands of evil and you diminish God's grace in your own life
